Sideways Takes the Coffee Table-Style Book to the iPad with Photographer Diana Curran

New platform allows publishers to release expressive, visual books at a fraction of the traditional expense

CLEVELAND, Aug. 26 -- Sideways recently released the Diana Curran iPad app as a first example of its coffee table publishing platform. The company's technology allows for an easy, cost-effective, templated approach to combining images, text and other multi-media types into an mBook - all forms of media merging in one immersive, digital product. Sideways' new platform takes traditional art publications and, without sacrificing artistic value and quality, gives authors and publishers a digital solution to produce their titles as mBooks. Sideways is a software company that transforms publications into immersive experiences on the iPad, iPhone and Touch.

"The coffee table book is the perfect product for the supremely engaging qualities of the iPad as the device lends itself to photography, art, museum exhibition catalogues and the like," said Charles Stack, CEO and co-founder of Sideways. "Our multimedia platform allows for freedom of expression and endless creativity for artists, authors and publishers, all while providing the reader with an immersive experience unlike any other book or e-reader format can deliver."

Curran's gorgeous black-and-white photographs are beautifully showcased within the Diana Curran app. The app displays large images, a thumbnail gallery view, filmstrip overlay navigation and an audio interview with Curran.

Curran is a photographic artist based in Lakewood, Ohio and has won awards for her work from the Cleveland Institute of Art and BayArts, a non-profit arts education organization. In addition to photography, Diana is active in the local arts scene where she teaches workshops and facilitates creative groups. She is co-founder of Full Circle, a support group created for local artists and writers that provides a venue for brainstorming, networking and support.

The Diana Curran app features "The Personal Gallery," Curran's exploration of the transformative power that the museum space has on people visiting the galleries. Curran's process is quick and spontaneous; none of the photographs are posed given the limitations of the museum environment. Curran's study of the immediacy of the connection between viewer and art is a powerful expression of how humans relate to viewing as well as a distinctive exploration of the possibilities of publishing on the iPad.

The Diana Curran app is available in the Books section of the iTunes App Store for $9.99.
