CTIA-The Wireless Association® Statement on Senate Passage of Small Business Jobs Act

Bill included MOBILE Cell Phone Act of 2009 (S.144) which removes cell phones from IRS listed property rules

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, CTIA-The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent released the following statement in response to the U.S. Senate passing the Small Business Jobs Act (H.R. 5297), which included the MOBILE Cell Phone Act of 2009 (S. 144). S.144 removes wireless devices from IRS listed property rules, which means individuals who have a business-provided mobile device are no longer required to record: (1) the amount of such expense or other item; (2) the time and place of the use of the property; (3) the business purpose of the expense; and (4) the business relationship to the taxpayer of the persons using the property.

"CTIA and the wireless industry welcome passage of the MOBILE Cell Phone Act, which will provide much needed relief for businesses and employees across the country. We thank Senators Baucus, Grassley, Kerry and Ensign for their commitment to including it in the Small Business Jobs bill.

"We hope the House will act soon so that wireless devices can be removed from the IRS listed property rules. The existing rule punishes productivity and raises compliance costs, and its permanent repeal is long overdue."
