American Airlines Launches Industry's First iPhone Travel App for Employees, Retirees

Employees Can Check In for a Flight, Get Priority List Information and More; Versions for Other Mobile Devices in the Works

FORT WORTH, Texas, Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines, in keeping with its mobility strategy, today announced that it has launched the airline industry's first employee iPhone travel app, JetAway, for personal and confirmed business non-revenue travel use by employees and retirees. For the first time ever, AMR employees and retirees who own an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad will have a mobile application specifically designed for their personal or confirmed business non-revenue travel that will allow them to check in for a flight, check flight details on any confirmed and upcoming non-revenue trips, get gate and time information and priority list details - just in time for holiday travel.

JetAway for iPhone is just the first in a series of mobility solutions that American will roll out for its employees over the coming months. The JetAway app gives employees tailored functionality for non-revenue personal and confirmed business travel, but mirrors the American Airlines iPhone application launched in July 2010 for customers. Versions of the employee travel application for Android and Blackberry are in production with target release dates in 2011. In addition to the JetAway app, American has enhanced Mobi.AA.com, an existing browser-based application that offers much of the same functionality to employees on any internet-enabled device.

"We recognize that just like our customers, our employees live in an increasingly mobile world, and we want to provide them with the same mobile technology tools that we provide our customers to make their lives easier both at work and at home," said Monte Ford, American Airlines Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President - Information Technology. "Leveraging an existing customer app for our employees is a cost-effective way to significantly improve the employee travel experience.  As new customer apps for Android and Blackberry are launched in 2011, we will bring more JetAway apps to our employees, who own a variety of devices for personal use."

With JetAway, employees can:

    --  E-mail a boarding pass/priority verification pass
--  Get My Trips - a listing detailing all confirmed and non-rev trips and
        flight details
--  Check in for a flight domestically
    --  Cancel a trip
--  See their position on a the priority list
--  View gate and time information
    --  Create flight status notifications

With the enhancements to the Mobi.AA.com, available from any internet-enable device, employees have added functionality including the ability to:

    --  E-mail a boarding pass/priority verification pass
--  Get My Trips - a listing detailing all confirmed and non-rev trips and
        flight details
--  Check in for a flight domestically

More than 230 of American's Information Technology Services (ITS) employees have been beta testing JetAway since mid-November and have been enthusiastic about the app's functionality.
