Rohde & Schwarz to Modernize Radio Stations of Germany's DFS (Federal Air Traffic Control Organization)

MUNICH, October 18, 2011/PRNewswire/ --

By the year 2018, Rohde & Schwarz will provide roughly 100 radio
stations of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH with new radio equipment. The
aim is to accommodate an increased volume of air traffic and the resulting
demand for higher capacities in air traffic management. The European
Commission requires operators of aeronautical radio transmit and receive
stations to reduce their channel spacing from 25 kHz to 8.33 kHz. The
purpose of this is to raise the number of available communications channels.
In addition, Rohde & Schwarz will add voice over IP (VoIP) capability to the
radio stations in question in order to meet future requirements. The order
includes the delivery of more than 2200 R&S Series4200 VHF and UHF software
defined radios, plus other system components such as R&S GV4000 redundancy
switches, filters, RX multicouplers and equipment cabinets. Rohde & Schwarz
will be responsible for integrating all components right up to the complete
radio stations ready for transition into operational use.
