Full Story:

RSA, The Security Division of EMC® (NYSE: EMC) today announced the integration of the Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) specification into its RSA Data Protection Manager solution to help customers worldwide implement an easier and more secure way to manage encryption keys across multi-vendor environments.

The RSA Data Protection Manager solution integrates the OASIS KMIP 1.0 specification - a single, comprehensive protocol for communication between encryption systems and a broad range of new and legacy enterprise applications, including email, databases, and storage devices. By removing redundant, incompatible key management processes, KMIP provides better data security while at the same time reducing expenditures on multiple products.

RSA Data Protection Manager secures sensitive data at the point of capture with data encryption and/or tokenization and is designed to enable enterprises to manage policies and the lifecycle of keys and tokens across the infrastructure. Now with support for the KMIP specification in the server (either hardware, virtual or software), the RSA Data Protection Manager solution allows organizations to centralize encryption policies, enforcement and key management in a multi-vendor environment using a single management console.

RSA's KMIP-compliant Data Protection Manager technology is at the center of developing a KMIP-compliant partner product ecosystem, providing tools to verify the compliance of partner products with KMIP standards and validate the interoperability with RSA Data Protection Manager.

Industry Analyst Quote:

Derek Brink, Vice President and Research Fellow for IT Security, Aberdeen Group

"Interoperability across multiple vendors is rated highest among the attributes that companies with enterprise-wide encryption projects are looking for, and KMIP is designed to address this need. By consolidating and centralizing data protection policies on a common platform, companies can gain more efficiency and transparency in their key management environments, as well as meet compliance mandates in a simpler fashion. RSA has consistently been a leader with respect to the KMIP protocol, from its specification and development and now in its integration within RSA's own key management product."

Partner Quote:

Joe Forgione, SVP for Product Operations and Business Development, SEPATON, Inc.

"We are partnering with RSA for integration of RSA's KMIP-compliant Data Protection Manager server with SEPATON's enterprise-scale S2100 backup and recovery platform. The OASIS KMIP protocol allows large enterprises to manage and protect encryption keys for a wide range of storage devices, applications and databases from a centralized management system and enables customers to choose from a range of managers and managed products. The addition of KMIP functionality to RSA's industry-leading enterprise key manager will provide our joint customers with the most secure backup infrastructure in the industry."

Executive Quote:

Robert Griffin, Chief Security Architect, Identity and Data Protection, RSA

"RSA is one of the first vendors to implement KMIP into our key management product and we hope this helps move the market towards adopting this important protocol.  KMIP allows customers to consolidate their key management infrastructures to one central, secure location, easing security operations on all data protection, enterprise-wide. The RSA Data Protection Manager solution helps organizations meet information governance mandates by assuring that encryption is applied to sensitive data consistently across client, server and storage and that encryption keys are managed with the most reliable and secure best practices."

Availability:

Version 3.2 of the RSA Data Protection Manager solution will be globally available in June 2012 from RSA.
