Verizon Wireless Expands Its 4G LTE Network to Brookings and Madison, South Dakota on June 21
Nation's Largest 4G LTE Network Continues Growing with New and Expanding Markets Across United States
SIOUX FALLS, S.D., June 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, owner of the nation's largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, announced today the expansion of its 4G LTE network in 22 markets, including in the Sioux Falls, S.D. area, where its 4G LTE network is already available. This expansion, which takes place officially on Thursday, June 21, will enable customers in more areas north of Sioux Falls (including the Brookings and Madison areas) to take advantage of the company's blazing fast 4G LTE speeds and connectivity. In addition to the expansions in 22 markets, the company will introduce its 4G LTE network in 46 new markets the same day. With the new and expanded markets, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network will be available in a total of 304 markets, covering more than two-thirds of the U.S. population.
Verizon Wireless first launched its 4G LTE network in Sioux Falls on June 16, 2011. The expanded 4G coverage area north of Sioux Falls includes the cities of Arlington, Aurora, Brookings, Madison and Volga as well as along these highways:
-- North on Interstate 29 from Flandreau to State Highway 30;
-- West of Brookings on U.S. Highway 14 to Arlington;
-- East of Brookings on U.S. Highway 14 to 478th Avenue;
-- And, West of I-29 on State Highway 34 from Colman to Madison.
"The expansion of our 4G LTE network to these new communities in South Dakota demonstrates our commitment to continuously expand the network and provide our customers with the highest quality communications standards," said Seamus Hyland, president-Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless. "Our 4G LTE network allows our customers to download music or upload photos faster than ever before, broadening their communications possibilities with family, friends and colleagues."
4G LTE Coverage and Speed
In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless' 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless' 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE.
In addition to the Sioux Falls area, Verizon Wireless launched its 4G LTE network in Rapid City, S.D. on Nov. 16, 2011, and this year expanded the coverage around the Rapid City area, as well as launching the company's 4G LTE network in Pierre on April 17 and in the Mitchell area along Interstate 90 on May 17.
