The Alpha Exchange Uses Cloud Computing Technology to Distribute its Market Data and is Joining Forces with Xignite to Expand its Global Reach
SAN MATEO, California and TORONTO, July 24, 2012/PRNewswire/ --
ALPHA DATA CLOUD WILL DISTRIBUTE MARKET DATA FOR CANADIAN STOCKS AND SHARES INTENDED
FOR MOBILES AND FINANCIAL APPLICATIONS
Xignite Inc. and Alpha Market Services, the distributor of Alpha Exchange data, based
in Toronto, have today announced the signature of an agreement for the launch of new
services which will allow for internet access to archived and real-time market data for
the Alpha Exchange. The Alpha Exchange negotiates in shares listed on the TSX, and TSX
Venture Exchange markets as well as the Alpha Exchange. The Alpha Exchange holds
approximately 20 % of market share in Canada and will use leading edge cloud computing
technologies developed by Xignite to distribute its market data through the integration of
a user-friendly application programming interface (API). These services will be ideal for
populating mobile applications and next generation commercial applications, which will
serve to increase the scope and reach of the Exchange.
"The Alpha Exchange is proud to be a leader in innovation, driving new technological
initiatives and an instigator of democratisation of market data," stated Deana Djurdjevic,
Head of Negotiation and Data at Alpha Exchange. "Implementing a solution based on cloud
computing technology for market data with Xignite and being its largest non-American
partner is a natural step, as well as being extremely exciting for the Exchange."
The first phase, planned for early August, includes addition of data on the Alpha
Exchange listings on the Xignite private cloud computing platform accessible at
Xignite.com [http://www.xignite.com ] - data corresponding to real-time sales prices and
bar charts on a minute by minute basis. For more information on pricing and how to gain
access, call 1 650 655-3700 or send an email to dataexperts@xignite.com.
"We are delighted that Alpha has recognised the potential generated by our Market Data
Cloud to step up its global activities," stated Stéphane Dubois, CEO and founder of
Xignite Inc. "This relationship marks an important step in widening access to global
financial market data."
The second phase includes the launch, planned for the fourth quarter of 2012, of Alpha
Data Cloud, a wide range of cloud computing services for market data fuelled by the
XigniteOnDemand platform. Alpha Data Cloud will provide easy and advantageous access to
real-time data, via the internet and for clients across the world, and will constitute
unique joint access for all archived market data as well as reference data for the Alpha
Exchange. This service will allow clients to access data via an application programming
interface, to download personalised sub-assemblies of archived data, to subscribe to a
recurring data distribution tool or to review transactions and rates over a full day.
ABOUT THE ALPHA EXCHANGE
The Alpha Exchange is part of Alpha Group, an organisation established in 2007 by nine
large Canadian financial institutions to give a new dynamic to stocks and shares on the
Canadian markets, at a time when negotiation was characterised by a lack of cash flow,
efficiency, innovation and up-to-date technology.
After having recorded significant results in negotiation with its Parallel Negotiation
System (SNP Alpha), a marketplace delivering competition to established exchanges, Alpha
Group decided that it was time to promote change in exchange subscriptions. This led to
the establishment of the Alpha Exchange, the new generation Exchange based on the
principles of entrepreneurship and operational excellence. The Alpha Exchange seeks not
only to promote the quality of exchange subscriptions and the cash flow of markets, but
also to give a new impetus to innovation and entrepreneurship across all industries in
Canada which have been neglected in recent years. The Alpha Exchange operates two markets:
Alpha Main and Alpha Venture +. The Alpha Exchange specialises in issuers in the
innovative technologies and financial instruments sectors in Canada.
