New Product: PointRight® Launches StaffRight® Service To Bridge Patient Acuity To Licensed Caregiver Staffing

New service helps SNFs staff for better outcomes and improved Five-Star ratings

LEXINGTON, Mass., July 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- PointRight Inc., the industry leader in predictive analytics in the healthcare industry, announced the immediate release and availability of StaffRight, a new service for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) aimed at helping to better align staffing levels with resident acuity and CMS's Five-Star Quality staffing benchmark.

With StaffRight, SNFs can now see how their staffing needs to change to improve their Five-Star rating. They will have a better understanding of what their staffing threshold is before it would decrease their Five-Star rating, enabling them to proactively establish goals for the SNF and continually monitor progress. Additionally, StaffRight enables SNFs to see how their facility's staffing:

--  Compares to that of peers
--  Understand how changes in resident acuity change staffing needs
--  Proactively plan staffing around changes in resident acuity
To help ensure quality of care, PointRight took the results of the study and developed statistical models that estimate staffing levels for SNFs based directly on their indicators of acuity. To obtain a more accurate result, the estimates are based on residents' functional status rather than payer mix. The tool empowers facility administrators or operational management to not only consider current levels, but also study possible scenarios to plan for future changes in acuity and understand how it will affect staffing.  Each part of the tool keeps the impact of possible changes to CMS' Five-Star standards visible and allows the user to see the impact of those changes on their rating.

"After studying staffing patterns of all CMS-certified nursing homes in the US, we clearly saw that without considering acuity, it was difficult if not impossible to predict the right levels of staffing to maintain quality care and secure CMS compliance standards for Five-Star Ratings" said Steven Littlehale, Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, for PointRight.  "Facilities that are interested in maintaining or even improving the level of care they provide need to look beyond just Five-Star ratings and consider acuity when staffing. With the StaffRight service, they can now do this with an extremely high level of confidence in the data."
