FARMINGTON, N.M., Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- New Mexico Virtual Academy (NMVA), a new statewide online public charter school authorized by Farmington School District, will open a new blended learning center in Farmington designed to meet the individual needs of students and to expand digital learning opportunities.

The NMVA Farmington Learning Center will provide highly individualized learning experiences for students through a combination of online learning and face-to-face instruction and support.

The NMVA Farmington Learning Center is located at 845 Sullivan Ave. Farmington, NM. NMVA will host an open house for all interested families and members of the community this Thursday, August 30(th) from 5 p.m. - 7p.m.

"We're excited to offer a new statewide public school option to New Mexico families," said Ashley Barr, Director of NMVA. "NMVA offers personalized education programs through online and blended learning opportunities, so students that need this option and additional support can succeed. The school year is currently underway and we look forward to expanding our program to offer twelfth grade next year."

The Farmington Learning Center is open to any student enrolled in NMVA and operates from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday. Some students will attend the learning center every day, while others will attend drop-in sessions to receive additional instructional support. The blended learning center allows students to attend regularly scheduled online courses in the company of other classmates. The Farmington Learning Center will offer a 21(st) century learning experience for students in a facility equipped with high speed internet, laptops, and instructional support from NMVA trained teachers and staff.

At NMVA, students attend school by accessing engaging online curriculum and participating in teacher-led classes over the Internet.  Students work independently through their assigned courses in their individualized education plans, and also receive direct instruction through engaging web-based classes taught by certified teachers.  Teachers work individually with students in one-on-one sessions to provide support and guidance.  NMVA will also offer opportunities for student collaboration in both curricular and extracurricular activities.
