Texas Instruments Announces Key Upgrades For Popular DLP® LightCrafter(TM) Module Allowing For Even Greater Versatility And Ease Of Use
New software incorporates customer feedback and additional enhancements to further enable developers integrating light into current and future industrial applications
DALLAS and SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) DLP(®) Products, today at the China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE) 2012, announced DLP(®) LightCrafter(TM) 2.0. This kit features new software resulting from both ongoing customer feedback and continued research and development, all intended to ensure continued ease of use, increased flexibility and enhanced capabilities. DLP LightCrafter 2.0 is the latest, most advanced evaluation platform for modern developers looking to incorporate DLP technology into industrial, medical, security and scientific instrumentation solutions requiring high speed, intelligent light steering. Available now, DLP LightCrafter 2.0 includes a host of improvements related to the built-in TI TMS320DM365 embedded processor, the graphical user interface (GUI), and FPGA support. During CIOE 2012, attendees can visit the TI booth (exhibition hall one, booth 1C01) to experience application demonstrations that highlight the DLP LightCrafter 2.0 -feature set being used for 3D scanning and intelligent lighting, along with work from TI design house partner, Wintech Digital Systems Technology Corp.
"Since the successful launch of the DLP LightCrafter platform earlier this year at SPIE Photonics West, we've received extremely positive feedback from our customers," said Mariquita Gordon, business manager, DLP Embedded. "Our e2e.TI.com community is very active and several of our customers have already brought their products to market using our LightCrafter module."
Some of the primary features and updates with DLP LightCrafter 2.0 include:
-- Additional sequence modes: Within the GUI, an individual pattern of a
sequence can now be previewed before displaying it with DLP LightCrafter
2.0. A "play once" option has been added as an alternative to continuous
pattern sequence mode. Color and grayscale BMP files are supported, in
addition to monochrome BMP files, for more versatile pattern sequencing.
A new slideshow mode is available that reads content directly from an SD
card.
-- Customizable pattern timing: Individual patterns can now be programmed
for up to five seconds each.
-- Enhanced LED control: When streaming content from an HDMI-connected
input source, the red, green and blue LEDs can now be individually
selected.
Additionally, existing DLP LightCrafter customers can download the software upgrades at TI.com/MEMS.
"Our main goal has always been to create usable, cost-effective 3D measurement systems that can function in a range of environments to meet the ever-evolving needs of our customers," said Matt Bellis, president of Seikowave. "The DLP LightCrafter module is a powerful tool that we've been able to use as a foundation for our new eVox LCG product, which provides truly compact, portable 3D imaging for use in hard to reach places."
