Games for Change and Intel Partner on Half the Sky Movement: The Game
New Facebook Game Scheduled to Launch November 13
NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Games for Change, the leading global advocate for supporting and making games for social good, announced today that Intel Corporation has come on board as a partner for Half the Sky Movement: The Game set to launch on Facebook on November 13, 2012.
"Intel's support comes at a great time prior to our launch of Half the Sky Movement: The Game," say Co-Presidents Asi Burak and Michelle Byrd. "This Facebook game seeks to connect the power of social media and gaming with doing good, and it will greatly benefit from Intel's active participation and long commitment to the transformational power of education and technology."
Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, the bestselling 2009 book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, sparked a global movement to address what they dubbed "the central moral challenge of our time" - ending the oppression of women and girls worldwide. An ambitious multimillion-dollar transmedia project is currently underway to raise awareness and promote real-world action. The multiple content platforms include: a primetime, four-hour series airing on PBS on October 1-2, a Facebook social action game, mobile games in India and Africa, websites and educational materials. Connecting all of the elements is a social media strategy uniting players, viewers, activists and fans in their desire to be part of the solution to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide. "Intel believes that technology plays a major role in improving education for girls and women to participate, prosper and lead in the global economy."
Games for Change serves as an executive producer of the Facebook game, along with Maro Chermayeff of Show of Force, the award winning production company producing the PBS broadcast series for Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. The Facebook game is being developed by Frima Studio with Zynga contributing "significant staff time" to the production team.
