New Activity Tracking from Tagg--The Pet Tracker Keeps Pet Parents Connected to their Pets' Exercise, Health and Wellness

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Snaptracs Inc., developer of Tagg - The Pet Tracker((TM)), the award-winning pet GPS tracking system that enables pet owners to know where their pets are and to be notified if they become lost, today announced a new activity tracking feature that will provide pet owners insight into their four-legged friend's daily activity. This new functionality, available in October at no additional cost to Tagg((TM)) users, will enhance the device's existing location tracking capabilities by providing owners with information to help them proactively manage their pets' health and exercise and be even more connected with their pets.

The new activity tracking feature provides pet parents with daily Tagg Points, an at-a-glance snapshot of their pets' activity in a 24-hour period. Movement is detected by the Tagg tracker and points are assigned based on the intensity and duration of the activity, ranging from resting to highly active. Tagg Points are accumulated and charted each day, providing pet parents with data that will help them make more informed decisions about their pets' exercise routines.  Veterinarians recommend dogs get 30 to 60 minutes of active play daily, and pet parents can help ensure these activity recommendations are being met by reviewing Tagg Activity Points and setting a Tagg Activity Goal as a benchmark for desired daily activity levels.

"Much like people need exercise for good health, it is essential that pets are kept active and walked daily for their optimal wellness," said veterinarian Dr. Michael Ponte. "Tagg--The Pet Tracker is groundbreaking in that it can help owners maintain a healthier lifestyle for their pet and have a long term impact on its well-being."

Owners can access multiple interactive activity charts for each pet wearing a Tagg tracker, including a daily profile, which details a pet's activity level and Tagg Points for each 10-minute period, as well as historical charts that display data and Tagg Activity Goal totals on a weekly, monthly, and 90-day timeline. In combination, this data helps pet parents identify trends or changes in a pet's activity level over time.

"We created Tagg to help connect owners to their pets in new and meaningful ways," said Dave Vigil, president of Snaptracs Inc.. "We all want our pets to live forever, to stay protected, and be safe and healthy. Tagg's combination of activity monitoring and GPS location tracking puts pet parents in control of their pets' well-being."

In addition to activity tracking, Tagg also monitors a pet's location, alerting pet owners by text and email if the pet becomes lost or wanders away. Once a pet parent receives a notification that the pet isn't where it's supposed to be, a pet parent can immediately begin tracking the pet's location via the GPS and wireless technology embedded in the Tagg device. In conjunction with the launch of activity tracking, Tagg users will also experience enhanced features including the ability to customize notification settings for location and battery alerts, as well as have up to five recipient contacts for text message notifications.

Launched in September 2011, Tagg--The Pet Tracker has been honored with multiple awards for its innovation in the pet and technology industries and is sold at prominent nationwide retail stores including Apple, Target and Amazon, with additional retailers expected before the holiday season. The Tagg GPS pet tracker is also sold by select pet specialty stores and veterinarians across the country and is available in four colors for $99.95 on http://www.tagg.com. Free iPhone(®) and Android(®) applications are also available for pet parents who wish to locate their pet and monitor its activity via smartphone. In addition to tracking capabilities, the applications also find places nearby like vets, dog parks and pet stores in the local community.
