Emergency Preparedness On-The-Go
Two-way radios with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather channels are important to include in emergency preparedness kits. They are helpful for those who are constantly on the go or in the great outdoors. When out of cell phone range, they help keep families prepared for changing weather conditions and provide peace-of-mind with reliable two-way communication in the most challenging settings. They can help warn of pending storm dangers through access to seven NOAA/Environment Canada (EC) weather channels and four marine VHF channels, which receive continuous broadcasts of local and regional weather updates.(1 ) NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) broadcasts National Weather Service (NWS) warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, so families have access to important alerts even in the most remote locations.
During power outages when cell phone towers are down, two-way radios provide an alternate means of communication. While standard desktop weather radios are helpful at home to monitor NWR broadcasts, they do not feature FRS/GMRS two-way communications, which are important in the aftermath of a storm and for outdoor use. And, in case of an accident or emergency, they can also be set in the emergency alert mode to transmit an alert siren to other radios followed by transmission of any spoken or incidental sounds.
Weatherproof Motorola Talkabout MT350R Radios
The latest Motorola Talkabout MT350R two-way radios take emergency preparedness to the next level with convenient features and design. They are weatherproof and engineered to withstand the effects of rain, snow and other wet conditions, while maintaining reliable communications. The radios meet IP54 foreign material intrusion standards, including withstanding splashing water and dust from any direction. For added convenience during nighttime adventures and in case of a power outage, the radios are equipped with a built-in flashlight.
Additionally, the MT350R radios feature flexible charging options for ultimate mobility and convenience. The unique design of the MT series uses a high-efficiency mini-USB wall adapter, which consumes less power during idle conditions. You can also charge using a mini-USB car charger (sold separately) or use standard alkaline batteries when no power outlet is available or during power outages. The MT350R radios also feature Talkabout Clear, which provides improved audio performance for clearer transmissions at a higher volume by reducing distortion.
Pricing
The Motorola Talkabout MT350R radios have an MSRP of $89.99 per pair, which includes two radios, two belt clips, one wall charging adapter with y-cable, two NiMH rechargeable battery packs (650 mAH) and an emergency preparedness checklist sheet.
