Verizon FiOS, the Nation's Leading Provider of Hispanic TV Programming, Offers Free Preview of Spanish Channels and a Facebook Competition in Support of Hispanic Educational Organizations
NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Hispanic Heritage Month offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the history and contributions that Latinos have made to American culture. As a salute to this important event, observed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, Verizon is offering its FiOS TV customers a free preview of more than 40 Spanish-language channels. The company is also featuring a competition that will reward three Hispanic educational organizations with donations totaling $10,000.
Verizon's FiOS TV channel lineup delivers Spanish-language content that covers news, sports, movies, children's shows and more. The free preview will run through Sept. 26. This includes high-definition channels like Multimedios and the Ultra HD Plex channels, including Ultra Cine, Ultra Kidz, Ultra Fiesta and Ultra Docu. A full list of the FiOS TV channels included in this free preview, along with their corresponding channel numbers, can be found on the Verizon At Home blog (http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-at-Home/FiOS-Free-Preview-Spanish-language-channels-free-this-week/ba-p/482733).
SomosFiOS Facebook Competition
Through its SomosFiOS Facebook page, Verizon FiOS will donate $10,000 to three Verizon-supported educational organizations that foster education efforts in the Hispanic community: Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Excelencia in Education and ASPIRA. Fans who "like" the SomosFiOS Facebook page by Oct. 15 will be prompted to vote for their favorite from among the three organizations and also will have the opportunity to watch a video through which they can learn more about Verizon's commitment to education. The amount of the individual grants will be calculated based on the percentage of votes each organization receives during the duration of the preview program.
The Verizon Foundation also donates to the Hispanic community. For well over a decade, the foundation has invested thousands of dollars to support programs that benefit Hispanic communities across the country, with an emphasis on education.
"With the largest Spanish-language TV offering in the nation, including the most HD Spanish-language channels, FiOS helps our Hispanic customers pass down their language and culture to the next generation," said Oscar Madrid, director of multicultural marketing for Verizon. "We have been hard at work, creating a Spanish-language offering that will help keep our Spanish-speaking customers close to their culture. We are excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with this free TV preview and an exciting Facebook competition."
