Over 100,000 Violent Crimes Occur Every Month. iWitness Aims To Lower That Number During National Crime Prevention Month - Starting October 1.
Company offers one-month subscription of personal safety service to every person in the U.S. at no charge.
SEATTLE, Sept. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- iWitness, a Seattle-based personal security technology company, today announced that it is offering its service at no charge to every person in the U.S. as part of National Crime Prevention month.
This offer must be activated on Monday, October 1, 2012. To get started, people can simply go to the iWitness website (http://www.iwitness.com). They will then be prompted to download the service on their iPhone - a process that takes just minutes.
"iWitness was created to prevent crime," said company founder, Dave Remer. "We can't think of a better time to introduce it than Crime Prevention Month. So on Monday, October 1, we're offering anyone in the U.S. the chance to protect themselves at no charge."
The service is available exclusively through an iPhone app. Any time a user feels threatened, iWitness can capture video and audio of the situation, and instantly sends it - along with their exact GPS location - to a secure server - an action that no perpetrator can reverse, delete, or undo.
iWitness also calls 911 automatically, notifies friends and family that the user feels endangered, emits a flashing light, and sounds an alarm.
"Pick up any newspaper in the country and you'll see why we've created this service," said Greg Heuss, iWitness CEO. "It provides users with an extra layer of safety wherever they are. Now there's no reason for people to be unprotected."
Typical self-defense methods don't always work. Common self defense methods such as pepper spray, knives, and guns can potentially be turned against the user, or cause unintended harm. iWitness provides protection without such risks. It is also safe around children and can be taken into any building including airports.
iWitness was designed by tech industry veterans with deep experience in E911 and wireless data transport for emergency services. It has been praised by law enforcement professionals and covered by national media.
