Pluribus Networks Accelerates Innovation in Datacenter Virtualization on Oracle Solaris 11

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Pluribus Networks announced the delivery of its datacenter virtualization Edge Virtual Bridging (EVB) solutions, which are designed to fully interoperate within Oracle Solaris 11 implementations. As the datacenter is evolving, multiple, separate virtual networking domains are being created to co-exist on the same physical LAN. Furthermore, these separate virtual network domains are being extended to the virtualized host environment.

The Pluribus Networks Netvisor® hypervisor together with the Oracle Solaris 11 Operating System, allows for the discovery and exchange of network domain parameters to implement virtual networks with specific traffic attributes including bandwidth, latency, and traffic classes.

The Pluribus Networks Netvisor® solution with IEEE 802.1Qbg Edge Virtual Bridging (EVB) works with the Oracle Solaris 11 VSI Resource Manager and VSI profiles to provide customers with advanced networking that is consistent across both virtual and physical networks while supporting customers' existing IT management processes.

Key Highlights:

Pluribus Networks Netvisor® Hypervisor Offers unprecedented capabilities for virtualizing the network in conjunction with Server side virtual switches.

--  The Pluribus Networks Netvisor® (network hypervisor) adds the dynamic
provisioning and management capabilities for software-defined networking
(SDN) to Oracle Solaris 11 environments. Netvisor simplifies the
operation of physical and virtual networks as one logical network. It
also provides IT administrators full VM-level visibility and security
controls in a virtualized environment, matching what they are accustomed
to from the access layer of their physical network.
--  By working with Oracle Solaris 11 management tools, the Pluribus
Networks Netvisor® solution will help network and server administrators
gain efficiency in managing multi-tenant environments. The Pluribus
Networks platform also helps them to obtain accurate, real-time
analytics for troubleshooting of virtual networks.
--  Through the nvOS® CLI and open programmatic API, or the standard
OpenFlow 1.0 protocol, the Pluribus Networks solution provides granular
VM-level application deployment acceleration for private and public
cloud environments, as well as actionable VM-to-VM connectivity.
Pluribus Networks is a Gold level Oracle PartnerNetwork member.

"Pluribus Network Netvisor® runs on specially designed Server-Switch which has best of the breed performance, 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet capabilities with Server like flexibility and programmability" said Ken Yang, Co-Founder and VP of Engineering, Pluribus Networks.

"The proliferation of virtual machines in the last few years has made the configuration and provisioning of the virtual and physical network as one logical entity very critical," said Markus Flierl, Vice President, Software Development, Oracle.  "With Pluribus Networks switches and Network Hypervisor running on Oracle Solaris 11 systems, customers can reduce complexity and simplify management of their IT infrastructure while delivering compute, storage, and network resources that can be dynamically reallocated on demand."

Availability

The Pluribus Networks Netvisor® solution will be first available on the Pluribus Networks F64 Series platform.
