Arkeia Replaces Symantec Backup Exec as Choice of Backup Solution for Nashville Wire Products
Welded wire product manufacturer declares Arkeia appliance top shelf; Makes it a fixture of physical, virtual storage environments
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Arkeia Software, a leading provider of fast, easy-to-use, and affordable network backup solutions, today announced that Nashville Wire Products (NWP) has chosen the Arkeia R220 appliance as a replacement for its Symantec Backup Exec application to protect both its physical and virtual environments.
NWP is a diverse organization serving multiple markets and thousands of customers worldwide. Its primary product categories include wire mesh, retail displays, store fixtures and wire products for the materials handling applications. NWP also addresses markets for wire mesh and sells component products to a variety of manufacturers. Cutting-edge technology, quality products and unparalleled service have earned NWP a leadership position in all of the markets that it serves.
Data Protection for Virtual and Physical Machines
The company revisited its choice of Symantec Backup Exec as its backup solution after deciding to expand its platforms to embrace VMware virtualization technologies and enjoy the hardware efficiencies of server consolidation. It also wanted to move from a tape-only environment to a mix of tape and disk storage as its backup storage targets to benefit from the rapid random access of disk, as well as deploy its backup server as an appliance to simplify management and improve security of the solution. After narrowing its decision between Arkeia and Veeam, NWP selected the Arkeia R220 appliance as a direct-attached backup solution to its existing Exabyte T24 tape library and Windows Server 2008 media server.
"Arkeia gave us everything you would expect from an enterprise-class solution, including support for tapes, deployment as a hardware appliance and protection of both physical and virtual environments," said Robert Miller, NWP System Administrator. "Arkeia is easy to use. We value the intuitive web user interface that permits administration from anywhere, and requires a minimum of training. The recovery wizard makes restores easy. Finally, we especially value the Arkeia solution because it operates entirely independently of our production systems - increasing the robustness and reliability of our data protection infrastructure."
The NWP backup infrastructure protects 300 workstations and 12 servers, primarily a combination of VMware hypervisors and Windows servers. Windows servers include Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 2003 SP2 and Windows 2008 Enterprise. The VMware environment is distributed across three hosts and is used to deploy a dozen production virtual machines. Applications that require regular backups include Microsoft Exchange with 145GB of data, as well as two Microsoft SQL Server databases. The backup strategy is to perform weekly full and daily incremental backups with monthly replication to tape at end of retention period.
Easy-to-Use, All-in-One Solution
"For companies looking to move from traditional backup to an all-encompassing solution that covers both physical and virtual environments, Arkeia appliances combine hardware and software to deliver maximum performance and reliability," said Bill Evans, Arkeia Software's CEO. "We are pleased that Nashville Wire Products could see the value that we deliver in ease of installation and deployment, maintenance and support, and security and performance to provide an all-in-one solution that meet their specific needs. Arkeia appliances are ideally suited to provide organizations with the speedy recovery, centralized management and ease-of-use that they require."

The backup appliance is a complete backup solution that delivers Arkeia Network Backup software, integrated RAID for disk backup, connectivity for cloud replication, and an optional embedded ape drive.
