New Technology Presents Balanced, Multi-Partisan Look at News and Campaign Issues

Unveiled Just Before the Final Presidential Debate, AllSides' Enhanced Crowd-Driven Service Helps Voters, Particularly Undecideds, Make Their Final Choice

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- AllSides.com, a new website that uses patent-pending technology to cut through the noise of ultra-partisan rhetoric and the 24-hour news cycle, today announced the latest release of its service, giving people a balanced look at news and now also campaign issues so that they can see all perspectives and decide for themselves.

Unveiled on the day of the last presidential debate, the new AllSides release presents various campaign issues from different viewpoints ranging from the Left to the Center and Right. Voters click on an issue to find out how the candidates stand as well as the varied viewpoints of editorialists and think tanks. Then voters can make a more informed decision on election-day that is not overly influenced by any one side.

"People - particularly independents and undecided voters - are overwhelmed by all the noise and partisan discourse in this election," said John Gable, founder and CEO of AllSides. "AllSides gives them the ability to quickly cut through the noise and bias, see all points of view, and decide for themselves."

Essentially a new kind of search technology, AllSides reveals a wide-range of ideas instead of presenting only the most popular or best-financed results - which is the model of today's popular search engines.

"Search engines and social networking sites increase the overall polarization in America today by only presenting a narrow view on controversial issues, or even worse, by presenting the results it thinks you want to see," continued Gable. "Instead of learning new things or expanding knowledge, people become more narrow minded, less knowledgeable and less open to other perspectives."

"This is dangerous - people must be well-informed for a democracy to function well," concluded Gable.

AllSides' unique crowd-driven technology identifies and presents different perspectives on today's news and issues. Building on top of findings from UCLA and Pew Research, AllSides solicits regular people from across the political spectrum to rate the perspectives of different articles without knowing the source. These ratings of individual articles provide an overall bias rating that AllSides then uses to present different perspectives.

Anyone can join the AllSides rating system at http://www.AllSides.com/get-involved. People can measure their own bias using a quiz from Pew Research and then start rating the writings from the press and editorialists from around the web.

As a result of this crowd-driven system, AllSides presents news, and now issues, from the Left, Center and Right. This better equips voters to decide for themselves.
