Follett's Integration of Destiny 10.5 with FollettShelf, Follett Digital Reader provides richer reading, learning environment
'Impressive enhancements' earn praise from customers
MCHENRY, Ill., Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Follett School and Library Group (FSLG) has released new solutions to support a student-focused digital learning environment with its integration of Destiny 10.5, FollettShelf (the company's cloud-based virtual bookshelf) and the Follett Digital Reader, which provides a simpler and richer Follett eBook mobile reading experience from various platforms and devices.
The integration is designed to make a district's library more efficient and effective by providing engaging tools for students and teachers to find, share and use digital resources more efficiently, and to support anytime, anywhere learning. In addition, Follett's eBook enhancements allow customers to move seamlessly from an interactive whiteboard to a desktop computer, a laptop, a tablet, and even a smartphone.
Follett's ongoing efforts to support 21st century technology skills, as well as Common Core State Standards, has impressed customers who received an early look through the Follett First Look member-based program.
"Follett continues to provide impressive enhancements to all of their products," said Angela Green, technology resource coordinator for Consolidated School District 158 in Algonquin, Ill. "As we move deeper into one-to-one initiatives with our students, we are ecstatic about the development of FollettShelf/eBooks and the Follett Digital Reader."
Green, whose district uses the Destiny suite of market leading solutions - Destiny Library Manager, Destiny Textbook Manager and Destiny Asset Manager - said she especially appreciates that Follett continues to offer flexible features. Green singled out the new Follett Destiny Mobile app as well as reporting features in Destiny 10.5, such as an enhanced dashboard for the Textbook and Asset solutions that will now show data instantly and graphically in one, easy-to-view display, providing the ability for users to make better, informed decisions on inventory.
"As our technologies evolve," Green added, "we look to Follett to provide easy and efficient ways for us to enter and track our assets and Destiny 10.5 does not disappoint."
The enhancements to Follett eBooks are equally powerful. All Follett eBooks use the proprietary Follett Digital Reader, which provides one consistent reading environment, includes a built-in dictionary and allows students to take notes and bookmark pages.
In Parkersburg, W.V., the enhanced eBook mobile reading experiences being provided by Follett also are being met with rave reviews.
"Now students can read anywhere, anytime and teachers can design lessons around literature, with the use of virtual resources available in their school media centers," said Pam Hornbeck, media/technology coordinator for Wood County Schools. "Follett continues to strive to offer the latest tools needed to meet today's fast-paced, ever changing media needs. We look forward to the future and the continued leadership Follett demonstrates in this field."
Green and Hornbeck are two of the original participants in the Follett First Look program, which allows a select group of customers to work closely with Follett to provide timely and relevant feedback by using the platforms and content in a way that replicates their normal processes.
FSLG includes Follett Software Company, Follett Library Resources, Follett Educational Services and Follett International. With a global footprint in 110 countries, the group boasts more than 70,000 K-12 customers and helps to guide more than 35 million students toward achievement.
