American College of Education Opens School of Advanced Studies

Innovative online college expands its offerings to include doctoral and specialist degrees in Leadership

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- American College of Education, one of the world's leading providers of online advanced degree programs for educators, announced today that it will now offer distinctive Ed.D. and Ed.S. degrees in Leadership.  Ed.D. students will select an emphasis in either Online Education or Educational and Community Organizations.  These programs are designed for aspiring leaders in the corporate, non-profit, and educational fields alike.

"In today's world, we know that collaboration is essential for progress.  Our doctoral graduates will be prepared to form constructive partnerships to lead their organizations and communities forward.  This is a unique perspective in higher education," said Sandra J. Doran, President of the College.  She adds, "We are aware of the urgent need for cooperative leadership in our nation, so we have chosen to broaden our scope to include preparing leaders to excel in a wide variety of fields.  The creation of these new programs reflects our intent to help leaders reach their fullest potential - both within and outside of the academic community."

Doctoral students will benefit from the College's culture of data-driven decision making, learning to apply research to solve real world problems within their own communities.  They will have access to seminars with pioneers and innovators in leadership, superb nationwide faculty and a robust library of current research, periodicals, and journals in the field.

These new programs will be offered under the auspices of the College's new School of Advanced Studies led by Dr. Lillian Chenoweth.  Dr. Chenoweth has a background in administration of doctoral programs as well as online education. She is a sociologist (Ph.D., Texas A&M University) whose research and publications include scholarly works in education and the social sciences.

American College of Education will begin accepting applications to the School of Advanced Studies on November 5, 2012, with the application deadline for the first term on February 4, 2013. The inaugural term of this program will begin on March 4, 2013.
