Nearly Half of Cyber Monday Shoppers Plan to Spend More Money Online That Day Than In-Store During the Holiday Season, Finds Annual CouponCabin.com Survey

WHITING, Ind., Nov 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --The Monday after Thanksgiving was once just another day, but the popularity of online shopping has made "Cyber Monday" one of the busiest e-commerce days of the year. A new CouponCabin.com survey reports nearly half (47 percent) of Cyber Monday shoppers will spend more money online that day than they will in-store the during the rest of the holiday season. The holiday has gone mobile as well. More than one-quarter (29 percent) of smartphone and tablet owners plan to shop online on Cyber Monday on their devices. This survey was conducted online nationwide by Harris Interactive on behalf of CouponCabin.com from November 6th -8th, 2012, among 2,104 U.S. adults aged 18 and older.

Some of those embracing mobile Cyber Monday shopping will start scoping out items in-store on Black Friday. More than four-in-ten (42 percent) smartphone owners who plan to shop online on Cyber Monday said they will "showroom" certain products on Black Friday with the intention to buy them on Cyber Monday.

When it comes to how much dough they'll spend on Cyber Monday this year, U.S. adults shared a variety of amounts. When asked how much money they plan to spend on Cyber Monday this year, those who plan to shop said the following:

    --  $1-$100 - 39 percent
    --  $101-$500 - 54 percent
    --  $501 - $10,000 - 6 percent
The familiarity of Cyber Monday is also on the rise. Sixty-one percent of U.S. adults report they know what Cyber Monday is, up from 48 percent who said the same in CouponCabin.com's 2011 survey. Twenty-eight percent don't know what Cyber Monday is, while 12 percent are unsure.

"Cyber Monday's popularity has grown year after year," said Jackie Warrick, President and Chief Savings Officer at CouponCabin.com. "For some people, it's even eclipsed Black Friday as the top day for saving, likely due to its convenience. Plus, Cyber Monday shoppers can access deals from anywhere, whether they're on the go, at home or at work."

More employed workers will be hitting the sales from their desks this year. In fact, 37 percent of employed shoppers report they plan to browse the Cyber Monday deals while they're at work, up from 24 percent last year.

Bookmark, subscribe to and follow your favorites: In the week leading up to Cyber Monday, take some time to bookmark web pages, subscribe to email alerts and follow your favorite stores on various channels so you're in the know about their savings specials. It will save you precious shopping time when Cyber Monday rolls around!

Read reviews. Nobody likes to return items or get stuck with something that's low quality. Figure out which items are good fits for your needs ahead of time by reading reviews online. Don't be swayed to buy lesser quality items or ones that don't have what you want just because they're cheap.

Start your shopping on a coupon site. The sheer volume of deals on Cyber Monday can be overwhelming, so start your shopping on a coupon site like CouponCabin.
