TripIt joins fellow sponsors Expedia.com, TBEX, HomeAway, Travellerspoint, Hostel Bookers, Go with Oh - and more than 175 travel bloggers from around the world - to raise USD $100,000 for five wells in Haiti through a partnership between Passports with Purpose and Water.org. Each well will serve an average of 370 people in Boucan Carre and Mirebalais.
For the past 21 years, Water.org has been working in partnership with people in developing countries to help them meet their own water and sanitation needs. Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, Water.org empowers local communities as invested owners, ensuring that the new, clean water source lasts for generations to come.
Passports with Purpose started in 2008, when Debbie Dubrow of Delicious Baby, Michelle Duffy of WanderMom, Pam Mandel of Nerd's Eye View and Beth Whitman of Wanderlust and Lipstick began a travel-inspired initiative to raise money online and do long-lasting good for people in the places travelers visit. By uniting a community of more than 150 travel bloggers around the world and leveraging social media platforms, Passports with Purpose has raised money for Heifer International; the Passports School with American Assistance for Cambodia; a village in Tamil Nadu, India for 25 Dalit families with Land for Tillers' Freedom; and the construction of two libraries in Zambia with Room to Read.
How to Get Involved
The annual Passports with Purpose fundraiser began at 12:01 a.m. ET on November 28, 2012 and ends December 11, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. ET at http://PassportswithPurpose.org. For each $10 tax-deductible donation on the site, a person can enter to win a prize of their choice, which are secured by participating travel bloggers. Donations for multiple prizes and multiple $10 increments are acceptable, as well as donations without entering for a prize. On December 18, a winner will be randomly selected and notified for each prize. Donations go directly to the 2012 beneficiary, Water.org.
