LG Unveils New 'HOM-BOT Square' Vacuum
LG's Smarter, Faster, Newly Designed Robotic Vacuum with Corner Master and Dual Eye 2.0(TM) Cameras Makes Cleaning Effortless
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Jan. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Complementing its other new Smart Appliances for 2013, LG Electronics (LG) announced its totally redesigned robotic vacuum, the LG HOM-BOT Square, with improved cleaning technologies and smart capabilities for easy cleaning on virtually any surface.

At next week's International CESĀ® in Las Vegas, LG will demonstrate how its HOM-BOT Square offers a significant upgrade in cleaning performance, thanks primarily to LG's newly designed Corner Master technology. This advanced feature set includes improved sensors and longer brushes, enabling it to tackle hard-to-reach places.
Ultrasonic and infrared sensors detect obstacles, while the vacuum's Dual Eye 2.0(TM) cameras scan and map rooms, even when the lights are turned off. The Turbo Mode settings let users manually adjust the cleaner to best match the characteristics of their flooring while Smart Turbo Mode automatically changes its own settings based on the type of flooring.
"From the beginning, we jumped into this project with the realization that consumers' rooms aren't round, they're rectangular," said Seong-jin Jo, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. "In practically every house around the world, rooms have right-angle corners, so it made perfect sense to develop a vacuum that took this into account. The HOM-BOT Square makes cleaning the hard-to-reach places effortless."
While robotic vacuum cleaners typically have only one camera, LG's advanced HOM-BOT Square uses two improved Dual Eye 2.0 cameras to plot out a smarter, faster and more efficient cleaning route. Taking several images per second, the upper and lower cameras scan ceilings, walls and floors, even under dim lighting conditions. This information is then analyzed to generate smarter mapping. At the same time, multiple sensors detect obstacles within a 180-degree field, taking hundreds of surface images to help provide collision-free operation.
The HOM-BOT Square also features a Learning Function, which enables it to recognize areas it has previously cleaned, minimizing unnecessary repetition, as well as allowing the vacuum to remember the positioning of objects from one cleaning to the next.
In addition to new Corner Master technology, LG's HOM-BOT Square cleans effectively with corner Detecting Sensors and the vacuum's unique rectangular shape. The Corner Detecting Sensors enable the unit to pinpoint its exact location in the home, which help indicate when to turn or if it has reached the edge of a room.
Low noise levels of just 60 decibels mean LG's robotic vacuum can effortlessly clean without disturbing the users. With a height of just 89 millimeters, the unit's slim profile enables it to maneuver under most furniture with ease.
The LG HOM-BOT Square makes cleaning more convenient because it requires less frequent emptying thanks to its larger capacity Easy-out Dust Bin. Unlike other robotic vacuum cleaners where the dust bin is located on the side, the Easy-out Dust Bin is positioned at the top of the cleaner for quick and easy removal. The larger and upgraded HEPA 11 filter also enables it to separate dust particles from the air more thoroughly, while also helping eliminate unpleasant odors.
Users may also enjoy a host of convenient features such as Voice Guidance, which includes over 90 voice alerts and updates on its cleaning progress. The vacuum also includes SmartDiagnosis(TM) technology, enabling the HOM-BOT to help self diagnose malfunctions or problems and then inform users with a voice alert*. Additionally, the improved Lithium Ion battery has a longer life cycle than conventional batteries and has up to 100 minutes of running time, so that owners can enjoy extended periods of automated cleaning and save on battery replacement costs.
LG's HOM-BOT Square vacuum's incredible maneuverability will be showcased at LG's CES booth (#8204) during a choreographed routine at select times throughout the show.
