Marvell G.hn Chipset Drives Cambridge Industries Group's Home Networking Products

Marvell G.hn silicon powers the Smart Home for the next era of the connected lifestyle

LAS VEGAS and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) today announced that Cambridge Industries Group (CIG) has designed systems based on the Marvell G.hn chipset for home networking applications. Marvell is at the forefront of deploying G.hn-enabled products for fast and powerful connectivity in the delivery of multimedia content to Smart TVs and devices in the Smart Home. CIG joins a growing list of OEM partners in Marvell's second wave of G.hn design wins, accelerating the global adoption of the extensible ITU-T standard designed to provide connectivity at data rates up to 1 Gbit/s over standard forms of home wiring, including electrical wires, coaxial cables, twisted pair and optical fiber.

CIG's G.hn systems, the HN-300-A1CN and the HN-100-A1E, are based on Marvell's GE-DW360F reference design, which includes the MarvellĀ® 88LX3142 G.hn digital baseband processor, the Marvell 88LX2718 G.hn analog front end, and the Marvell 88E1510 Gigabit PHY with  a complete TCP/IP protocol stack. In addition to the powerline-Ethernet bridge function, the CIG HN-300-A1CN provides a 12V DC power supply to power optical network terminal (ONT) gateways and set-top boxes (STBs) directly. The CIG HN-100-A1E is a powerline adapter design with a built-in pass-through power socket and easy plug-and-play installation. The Marvell G.hn chipset is ideal for distributing bandwidth-intensive and real-time applications like HD IPTV, VoIP, real-time gaming, and multi-room DVR.

"CIG is harmonizing networking transceiver technology across all types of home wiring to simplify home networking. With Marvell's G.hn silicon at the core of our powerline devices, CIG is anticipating high-quality performance levels for transmitting high-speed data and real-time applications anywhere in the connected home," said Rose Hu, vice president, marketing, CIG. "We are very pleased to be collaborating with a market leader like Marvell on delivering innovative products that power the Smart Home."

Since its debut in September 2011, Marvell's G.hn silicon continues to garner industry support. Marvell's G.hn chipset won a Best Electronic Design Award in December 2011 and a Connected Home Award in April 2012. Demonstrations at CES and the Asia Plugfest in 2012 generated even more interest in Marvell's G.hn vision and potential applications of the technology. Most recently, in December 2012, Marvell became the first silicon vendor worldwide to have its silicon achieve full compliance certification from the HomeGrid Forum, paving the way for mass deployments by OEMs of G.hn systems based on the Marvell chipset.

"Marvell is excited to be working with industry leaders like CIG to bring advanced home networking applications based on G.hn to the Smart Home," said Winston Chen, vice president of the Smart Home Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. "Marvell's G.hn silicon unifies the home wireline network for distributing more content to more screens in more rooms throughout the home. The chipset is also a great ambassador for Marvell's complete portfolio of technologies to support total connectivity solutions for the always-on lifestyle."

Marvell G.hn-powered products will be showcased at the Marvell booth (South Hall 3 - Booth 31423) and at the HomeGrid Forum booth (South Hall 1, Booth 21906) during CES at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 8-11, 2013.
