MyRadar Marches Toward TV 3.0 with Meteorologist Insights, Apple Watch App, Wind Animations and Increased Capacity

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ACME AtronOmatic, LLC announces a significant update to its popular MyRadar Weather Radar app with numerous new features and capabilities.

First in the lineup, Meteorologist Insights is an innovative new feature which allows the company's full-time meteorologists to illustrate specific, localized weather patterns directly within the MyRadar app.  "It's essentially a broadband 'telestrator', just like you might expect to see on a traditional weather broadcast on TV," said Andy Green, president of the company.  "Our staff of in-house meteorologists can highlight specific weather phenomena right through the app, sharing their professional insight as to what causes certain weather patterns and offering timely, relevant details on expected weather and potential outcomes."

The new feature is the initial piece of a broader move into the mobile video arena.  The company has been building out the infrastructure to begin covering the nation's weather through live, on-air coverage with meteorologists and local storm chasers using streaming video from directly within the MyRadar app, and the Insights feature will combine the expertise of video personalities with the broad reach of the MyRadar mobile app.

The Meteorologist Insights feature is part of the basic MyRadar package and is available on iOS and Windows, and is forthcoming on the Android versions of the app.

Also announced, the long-awaited MyRadar Apple Watch app has been released.  The app provides convenient, quick glances and instant views of the radar around the user's immediate area, as well as current conditions and in-depth forecast for the user's current location.  The Watch app takes advantage of MyRadar's proprietary high-definition radar that users have come to appreciate in the full mobile app.

Additionally, a new animated "surface winds" feature has been released for the Android and iOS versions of the app.  The new feature animates surface winds around the United States showing both direction and intensity in a visually stunning display, and provides additional insight to the weather conditions around the country.  The animated wind data, combined with animated radar data, provides a more complete picture of the weather patterns and how they play out throughout the region.

Lastly, huge increases in server capacity and network infrastructure will help the app better handle increased spikes in activity during periods of inclement weather.  "Our in-house weather data processing engine has been enhanced greatly by bringing on additional server capacity and extensive software updates, so we're much better positioned to handle the large spikes in activity that we see during severe weather flareups, such as tornado and thunderstorm outbreaks."

MyRadar is the most popular mobile weather radar app in the United States, with over 17 million downloads across most major platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, and Amazon Fire TV.  MyRadar has been helping keep people safe from severe weather since 2007; from airline pilots to the casual user, MyRadar's severe weather alerts, hurricane tracker, and detailed storm information combined with its proprietary high-definition radar make the app a go-to weather center for millions of users every day.  For more information, check out myradar.com.
