7invensun Launches the World's First VR Eye Tracking Module At GTC CHINA 2016

BEIJING, Sept. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Yesterday, at GTC CHINA 2016, Thomas Huang, the founder and CEO of 7invensun, a well-known Chinese eye-tracking technology company, was invited to introduce the development of eye-tracking technology in the VR industry.

GTC CHINA is a large scale conference; it is a stage for technology elites to demonstrate their latest achievements. It includes sessions such as In-depth Learning, Big Data Analysis, High Performance Computing and Super Computers, the Emerging Companies Summit (ECS), and, most inportantly for global GPU developers, the GPU Technology Conference. Participants at GTC CHINA include leading and influential technology companies, newly emerged start-up companies, and a large number of developers and VR fans.

During the event 7invensun launched the world's first VR eye-tracking module to solve the technical problem of foveated rendering. Thomas Huang emphasized in his talk that: "7invensun's VR eye-tracking technology boasts three advantages, including full field-of-view (FOV) tracking, high precision and low latency. The tracking range can reach the extremity of eye rotation (vertically 30 degrees and horizontally 50 degrees), covering mainstream VR devices with a FOV larger than 110 degrees. The tracking precision is up to a world-leading level (0.5 degrees). The maximum tracking speed is 380HZ, while the latency is lower than 5ms. The hardware design of the eye tracking module is also unique with detachable modules, which makes them easy to carry and replace. The human-centered design allows for replacement for near-sighted lenses (every set is equipped with near-sighted lenses: one pair for 200 degrees, 400 degrees and 600 degrees each). Currently, companies collaborating with 7invensun in the VR eye-tracking technology field include NVIDIA, Qualcomm and HTC." In the ECS, Thomas Huang further indicated that "It is an honor for 7invensun's eye tracking module to be supported by partners. We are hoping for more opportunities to work together with you in extensive development of eye tracking technology in the future."

With the rapid development of the VR industry in recent years, the main deterrent confronting VR hardware factories is that players' computer hardware is not able to meet the needs of display devices for high-resolution rendering. What's more, the VR equipment that is currently available can only function properly on computers that are priced at RMB10,000-RMB20,000 (aboiut USD$1,500-USD$3,000). In order to solve this problem, 7invensun is collaborating with companies such as NVIDIA and Qualcomm to develop foveated rendering technology based on eye-tracking. When we see a pure rendering scene, most of the computer work is wasted since our eyes can only accept details at the fixation point. Understanding the accurate field-of-view of users through eye-tracking technology, we only need to render the area with full resolution, to reduce the requirements for GPU.

As VR technology emerges worldwide, domestic and foreign VR industries have ushered in the prospect of quick starts. The eye-tracking technology achievements released at GTC CHINA will bring more expectations to the VR market. We believe that in the near future eye-tracking technology will become the most indispensable technology to VR equipment, like a mouse to computer. The eye tracking module released by 7invesun at GTC CHINA will officially hit the market on October 10th. Interested friends won't want to miss the opportunity to experiencing VR eye-tracking technology.
