Lovely old vinyl: Thelonious Monk Sat Dec 26, 2009 7:08:02 PM#111187Perm Link
Yeah, so, this Music forums is pretty empty. Time to fill it up a bit.
Recently, I've been looking through my Dad's old records, and I thought a few of them might be worth mentioning... here, for example. Why not?
First off: Thelonious Monk. Who knows Thelonious Monk? The record I have here is a double-LP album.
PRESTIGE 24006 THELONIOUS MONK
This particular release doesn't appear to be listed on discogs.com.
Thelonious Monk is a jazz pianist. The tunes tend to be quite cheerful, almost always rather lively, and oh so very jazzy. To me, the music is very pleasant to listen to, enhanced by the spicy note that comes with any good piece of swing. Whether or not you like it does, certainly, depend on whether you like jazz in general. If, say, Miles Davis makes you jump in front of a train, this probably isn't for you.
Voilà, a little clip for you. The track is called “Hackensack” - Track #C4 on my album.
Remember, it's nothing like the Charts, the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson, or Wacken.
What do you think of it? Had you even heard of Thelonious Monk? Do you despise the music - or do you adore it?
I'll be disappearing to France for a few days, but I'll return next year with another old vinyl - something rather different.)
Not so long ago I was listening to some of my sister's My Bloody Valentine vinyl.
It was pretty good.
I was shocked that it came out in 1993 though.
That tiem for music was the shit.
