In one of my stupid networking classes, I have some statistics problems that I'm struggling with. It sucks.
Here is one: What is the average value for a random variable with an exponential probability density function (pdf)? And What is the variance of the Poisson Process?
For the first, I know the pdf is ae^-ax and you need to integrate from neg infinity to infinity. I forgot how to integrate (of course), but I think it is 1/a. I don't know how to get it .
If the average for the Poisson is at, then the variance should be (at)^.5?
Help!
