Changes/Additions/Ideas Thread Fri Feb 24, 2006 3:26:33 PM#15064Perm Link
Post any and all things you would like to see or be changed in this thread. I'll be picking them out and doing something with them. All ideas are welcome.
2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!
Modifying of front page's tables (shortening)
Making ASEVille the front page, and linking other pages thereafter
Unifying the ASE theme throughout the site
Making Image borders for the tables
User CP interface needs to be updated
Updated Smiley list (why not )
XHTML theme is undergoing some pains with cross browser support. Scrapping the current things and redoing from scratch. On the table at least.
Modifying of front page's tables (shortening), Yes... we'll see how it looks.
Making ASEVille the front page, and linking other pages thereafter, It was my intention to make ASEville a start page for everything, but not the main site. ASE Labs will remain ASE Labs.
Unifying the ASE theme throughout the site, Logos and buttons... fine.
Making Image borders for the tables, Minor UI works... yes.
User CP interface needs to be updated, Yes... will be changed... somehow.

I actually have an idea on how to enhance the look of the site, but it uses javascript. The page will handle no script browsers gracefully the way I want to do it anyway.
I was thinking of stripping the the left column completely and having drop downs on the top. For instance, on the top of ASE Labs there is a link for Articles. A plus sign to the right of it would drop down a list of recent articles. I'll see if I can whip up something quick. If you don't have or disable javascript, that function won't be present, but the site would work the same regardless.

More changes. The comment system will be going away and replaced with forum integration. That's right, this was done in Version 2 and now it'll be back and better than ever. Another Hellraisr idea.

Yes, at the top right of the main index and every forum are links to mark all the threads, or the thread in the forum, to old. Also, by letting the session time out, you'll change all those posts to old anyway.

The best change is linking everything to the forum. This way, you can visit the forum to see what's now, or the specific area... Awesome...
Edit: I figured out a way to transport the comments from the old system over to the new forum threads. Double points to those that posted! You may want to clear those forums as read or just check out the comments .

Brilliant. This gets me to... The "New Threads" area on the main page isn't as helpful as it could be. You may want to make the changes since last visit bold or something.
And maybe provide a wee bit more info... in a small font... see http://linuxgangster.org/forums/ left hand side for an example with more infos than you should add IMHO.
I will be adding a section on ASE Forums for the latest threads. I can't do anything like tracking topics because of the cookies aren't on the same domain. It is in the works to make the latest threads more useful with favorite forums and such.
Edit: All this work is pushing back the XHTML theme more and more .

The first one lists the latest threads and the second lists the newest threads. Latest meaning last posted in and newest meaning started when. These are works in progress, but the functionality is there. Is this useful? I have one more section for the 'latest threads' page to go and it'll be a highlight I bet.

I was mistaken. Hopefully tomorrow. I need to still plan it out. Also, I need to add some more to strip the comments out of the site finally. I'm waiting to delete the two tables in the DB that the comment system was using.

The triple post! I just updated the latest changes and additions to the forums. You now have the favorite forums in a workable state. This isn't how I want to do it, but it will work for the time being.
When you view any forum, you'll have a link at the topic right to add it to your favorites. Give it a try. Also, I have added a link to the latest threads on the index on the top right as well.
Enjoy. More changes coming soon.
