A case of the Mondays Mon Aug 21, 2006 7:59:30 AM#21676Perm Link
When I came into work today, the NAS storage device was down. I see a note on it that says not to turn it on.
Basically, it is a RAID 5 array of drives and 1 of the drives failed. While rebuilding the array, another drive was having parity errors and the rebuild was failing.
We have no backup solution (SURPRISE!) but we were able to boot and grab a backup of everything and we are doing it again. Not many people put all their stuff on the NAS but enough do.
It is a great Monday so far...

It is worse than that. There are so many problems with this Dell NAS that we are eyeing getting rid of it.
We need to perform an image restore using (get this) not just any USB thumdrive, but it has to be a DELL USB thumbdrive! The unit will only work with Dell drives!
Isn't that just plain stupid? And you can't put bigger or smaller drive in the unit and it can't do Raid 0+1 or Raid 6 or even Raid 5 with a spare drive.
Stupid Dell.
