Rant of the Week #2: Week Number 2 Sat Aug 26, 2006 4:46:55 PM#22061Perm Link
I'm am getting sick of hearing people saying they want Nintendo to go 3rd party. Why does this persisting never cease? They always compare the Gamecube to the Dreamcast, saying that it will be Nintendo's last console. You know what? If you want Nintendo games so damn much buy a Gamecube. They are only $100.
In addition, Nintendo is not going to go 3rd party anytime soon. You know why? Well, other than the DS/GB line (which is as we speak kicking the PSP's ass), we also have the simple fact that despite having the least market share, they still make the most money because their system is the cheapest to manafacter and sell. The Gamecube is essentially made of modified off-the shelf parts, yet it is still the most powerful console of the current generation (and is likely to stay that way, with Microsoft dropping all normal Xbox support). This is all foregoing the fact that Nintendo still commands the largest amounts of royalties for each game sold, and that Nintendo could probably shit in a box and sell more "S-Box's" than Microsoft can sell XBox's or 360's.
Also, stop pointing to SEGA and using them as a scapegoat for your wishes. SEGA was run into the ground in 1995, and was losing hundreds of millions of dollars for over 7 years. The fact that the Saturn was so expensive to develop and didn't sell (despite being the most powerful console) didn't help, nor did the Dreamcast's surprisingly similar fate.
Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today? Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection. Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!
Point taken, but I disagree. Basically, i'm sick of buying a whole console for a handful of exclusives. I've owned every console, and it always seemed to end up that way for me...I just think if they made their Zelda and Mario games for the PS2 or XBOX, they'd make more $$$ and have a larger audience.
