(Really wanted to make my own Avatar Fanfic for a while XD Please tell me what you think! )
-Chapter 1-
I sigh, staring at myself in the mirror. My eyes were mostly green at the moment, but there were still hints of yellow here and there. The turquoise border of my irises pulsates every now and then, but never reaches the cat-like pupils. My eyes slide up to scan the pure white hair. People usually describe my hair style as being a duck butt; I don’t like to admit it, but it’s a correct way of putting it. Then there are my bangs, which are longer than my (slightly) slender face. I stroke fair skinned fingers through the top of my head; my hair is as soft as ever. But with each movement of my hand, a feather falls to the marble floor.
I remove my fingers from my hair, and growl quietly. It’s all because I had been overjoyed by a simple candy bar…When I get too happy, stressed, sad or angry my hair falls out in feathers. I’m waiting for the day that I go bald, but I have so much hair I don’t think it could happen.
With a short snort, I push myself away from the sink. Before my back can slam into the wall, I’m able to stop. I pivot on my heel, now facing the door. Quickly, I exit the small bathroom.
I can feel the people in the store look in my direction. Man, I hate staring. I bite at the air, like an irritated animal would do to a fly. This causes everyone to go back to what they were doing before.
“Hey shark mouth, why don’t you settle down there?” a man questions. I look down to glare at a short, old guy. His eyebrows are so thick and long that they cover his eyes. His hands stroke a long, gray beard. The man wears Earth Kingdom clothing, mostly green and gold...or it’s brown…
“For your information, I don’t like being stared at. Another thing, I don’t like being called shark mouth,” I state, crossing arms over chest. My nose twitches, and I sneeze.
“Well there’s a reason to stare at some kid who is dropping feathers!” The man exclaims, releasing a hearty chuckle. “And when you have teeth like those babies people have a right to call you shark mouth.” Both of those things are true…especially since my teeth are all fangs…like a shark’s.
“Was there something you needed?” I grumble.
“Just wanted to make sure you were okay,” The man smiles kindly.
“Yeah, I’m fine. But thanks for worrying,” I sigh. I give him a short wave before leaving the store. A breeze shifts my yellow jacket to the right. On the back of my jacket is a fancy design. It’s of white wings that begin near the shoulders, goes down, and then curls to the sides of the jacket. Bordering the entire bottom of the jacket are feather designs. I don’t wear a shirt underneath, and I have the jacket completely unbuttoned, but my abdomen is wrapped at least.
I start walking, taking in the scenery of Ba Sing Se. People walk around, carefree and happy. The aura of the place is calming to the soul. I listen to the monorail as it moves, and tilt my head back to watch it. So, Earthbenders power that? What would be a word to describe it? Great? No. Awesome? No. Amazing? No. What about?…No…
“Fascinating!” I grin, pounding my right fist into the left palm. I continue walking, more towards the Lower Ring of Ba Sing Se; where refugees and the poor mostly live in the area. It’s weird going from the Upper Ring, which is full of magnificent structures and nicely dressed people, to more beaten up buildings with the inhabitants to match.
-Chapter 2-
Something grabs hold of my right pant leg, and I look down to see a little girl who only goes up to my waist (and I was five foot and eight inches the last time I checked). Her dark brown hair is pulled up into a bun at the back of her head. Big, hazel eyes are widened with an excessive amount of tears that roll down her round cheeks. The girl’s top is ragged and white, pants are brown and torn. The first word that comes to mind: Poor.
I lift my head up to look at three large men. They are at least five years older than me and are definitely Earthbenders. Suddenly, I’m laughing. The girl continues to grip onto me and the men stare in confusion.
“What is so funny?” One with beady, black, eyes asks.
“Kaiser, he must be another insane kid,” another scoffs; a bulky man, larger than the other two.
“Yeah Tray, probably,” the one who first spoke nods. So he must be Kaiser? What about the other one…the big one?
I stop laughing. My eyebrows arch in question, head tilted slightly.
“Hey Marik, do you see those eyes?” Kaiser whispers. I look at each one, remembering who each is. Black eyes is Kaiser; big guy is Tray; Marik is the smallest one. None of them wears shoes, or shirts for that matter…yup…Earthbenders.
“Okay kid, hand over the girl,” Kaiser commands, holding a dark hand out to me. The only thing I give him is an intimidating snicker.
“Why do you want her? What did she ever do to you three? I know your intentions aren’t in the category of nice,” I yawn. This is getting so boring. I try to walk past them, the little girl following closely. I’ll get rid of her later…
Tray steps in front of me.
“Excuse me,” I say, as kindly as possible.
“Give us the girl. She’s going to pay for stealing our food,” Tray growls. He bends down at least two feet to meet my face. My eyes are shut, which they usually are.
I really hate it when people invade the space around my face… With unseen movements, Tray is on the ground, unconscious. The other two look in shock, and the girl seems curious as to what I had done. I turn my head to smile at the other two, and they jump.
Kaiser charges and throws a quick fist. I pick the girl up and, gracefully, I flip over Kaiser. I land behind him, and set the girl down. I pat her on the shoulder and she runs away. Kaiser stumbles to a stop, whirling around to growl at me. I dodge two swords from behind, dipping, ducking and moving from side to side. I finally turn around and tap each sword with the back of my hands. The swords fall out of Marik’s tight grip, and he screams.
With ease, I pull my own weapon off of my back. Shin Yoku, oh how I love thee. It has been my partner since my eighth birthday. That was the happiest day of my life…the only time I had really thought I was going to be bald.
[Shin Yoku: A kusarigama like weapon, with two staffs connected by a chain, which can extend (the staffs can connect), and each staff has a scythe blade - he has named this weapon Shin Yoku (Divine Wing); the staff part is black with several patches that are wrapped with red ribbon, the chain connecting the two staffs is black; the scythe blades are actually hundreds of small pieces of steel shaped into feathers, giving the scythe blades a wing-like appearance; and Enzeru is known for placing his weapon in a way that makes it look like he has wings before delivering the finishing blow, and he also gives them some white fire, making them shine brightly (he does this sometimes, usually against major opponents) – which has earned him the name “Angel of Death”; he carries Shin Yoku on his back. Shin Yoku is a little over 200 pounds, and Enzeru swings it around like it’s nothing (even when a 400 pound Earthbender was once wrapped up by the chains).
By using his fire or lightning, he can disconnect the feathers (however many he wishes at a time), and use them separately like little blades, and then put them back into place when he’s done. They actually stay together by Enzeru’s special white lightning (so when he adds more it causes them to shine or sparkle); also if he were to lose any of them, they would return even if miles away.]
I disconnect the staff, and twirl each half. All it took was a small flick of both staffs, and the chain flings outwards and strikes Marik in the chest. He is sent flying backwards, slamming into the building behind him. He crashes through it, finally stopping after hitting the inner wall of the place. K.O!
Kaiser hasn’t given up yet, and finally works up the courage to attack again. I twirl around him. I ram the bottom of each staff into his shoulders. He falls down. But before he can land, I swiftly throw one staff, making sure the blade doesn’t hit him. The girl is still around and a bloody scene may cause an uproar.
The staff moves around him twice and then returns to my hand. The chain is wrapped tightly around his chest, keeping his arms to his sides.
“Now I want you and your buddies to leave that girl alone. It’s not right picking on those who are way younger than you,” I say, shaking him up and down.
“Okay okay!” Marik shouts, panicking.
“I’m not getting any reassurance. And…this is getting boring again,” I moan, slumping. With Marik still wrapped by the chains, I place both staffs under my armpit. I skillfully run up the monorail, as if defying gravity. Marik gets pounded against the wall every now and then. Before reaching the top, I jump, making Marik scream. I smile down at Ba Sing Se, and then laugh. I land on top of the monorail, and walk over to the edge. I hang Marik over, now holding a staff in each hand. I let my grip loosen, causing the chain to extend a little. Marik screams again, high pitched.
“OKAY OKAY!” Marik yells, his legs flailing. I tighten my grip on Shin Yoku again.
“There we go, that’s the tone I was looking for,” I chuckle. Then, I let go. Marik soars down, and people watch in horror. I still stand on the monorail, yawning. My eyes have been shut the entire time, and I rub them. Tired. I don’t plan on opening my eyes any time soon…people just stare…
I jog in place, and then stretch a little. I lean over the edge with hand to forehead, and whistle.
“Wow, Shin Yoku acts like an amazing anchor…he’s falling pretty fast,” I state in awe. “What a beautiful day too.”
I take one step, and begin falling. I kick down at the air with my right leg, and with my left leg I kick backwards. I flip, and my toe catches the monorail’s wall. I get my entire right foot on it, and then manage to get my other foot. I use white lightning to make myself stick, and then use it to increase my speed as I run down the side. Then, there’s a bright flash and a loud CARACK!
Suddenly, my feet are on the floor. I throw my arms back and into the air. The staffs fall perfectly into my hands, and Marik dangles slightly over the ground. He has fainted. With quick movements Marik is released from the chains and he falls to the floor with a thud. I connect the staffs and then place Shin Yoku on my back once more.
People had stopped to look at the scene.
“It’s okay, no one is seriously injured…go back to what you were doing,” I laugh, waving my hands in front of my face. “This was all just some fun training.” Unsure of what to say or do, they return to their previous activities.
I look down at my black pants, and fix the bottoms. I like them cinched right past my knees. Doing the right leg is a little more difficult, since the whole appendage is wrapped in bandages. Probably have to change those soon…
My shoes are still good and barely worn out (which is great since I bought them two weeks ago). They’re stylish, black Kung Fu shoes with white bottoms. I love them; but not as much as I love Shin Yoku.
Quiet footsteps near me, and I turn around. It’s that little, shoeless girl.
