It's amazing how someone can claim to be the epitome of open mindedness, yet in the same breath claim that bands such as Linkin Park are shit, and try to pass that off as a fact rather than an opinion. There's nothing wrong with thinking that Linkin Park are shit, but trying to claim that you are more knowledgeable/passionate/intelligent than those who think otherwise? It's just bullshit. It's like saying that the colour red is better than the colour blue, and anyone who disagrees must be colour-blind.
The fact is, people look for different things in the music they listen to. Just because a band happens to have mass appeal, it doesn't make them any less worthy. That kind of thinking just baffles me. Linkin Park, Evanescence... whether you like them or not, they are good at what they do. Which is a hell of a lot more than could be said for a lot of underground metal bands.
I'm just sick of this unspoken (or occasionally, spoken) rule that if you're a fan of certain bands, you have less appreciation and passion for music. All it comes down to is different tastes, nothing else.
What is even worse is when the "elitist" in question is also a pseudo-intellectual, artsy-fartsy fuckface who constantly mentions that they like to listen to Maudlin Of The Well, followed by Miles Davis, followed by Malevolent Creation, topped off with some Tori Amos.
