Daylight Savings time... Tue Mar 13, 2007 5:48:23 AM#35556Perm Link
Is KILLING me still. I know its been a few days, but I just can not adjust. I couldn't fall asleep until 3:30am and I am exhausted. I am trying to do work now in class now, but I can barely stay awake... So is anyone else having this problem? Or is it just me?
Worst part is, I actually tried to go to sleep early, but I can't fall asleep unless I am actually tired. I would go home and take a nap, but after class, its right to work for me. I hate having no time to do anything. And honestly, how can the government just decide to change time. Why not get rid of mondays and start with tuesday?
EDIT: 2 Edits in my last two posts.. I need some sleep.
I hate it too =\ Normally I can fall asleep at, like 10 or so but with the time change I can't get to sleep until 11-12 (usually I get to bed at 11 but can't sleep until 12) when I have to get up at 6AM. It's not THAT bad, I know, but I'm exhausted =\ And I know I'll be up until 12 again today. BAH

I used to think DST was internationally standardized ;-)
Not really. You're not required to participate in DST. Arizona doesn't, and some cities don't. So it's not really standardized in a formal sense.
Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?
So-called Daylight Saving Time doesn't save *anything*. It costs the USA hundreds of millions, if not billions, in lost productivity and wasted wasted-hours as people fiddle with clocks, miss appointments, correct scheduling errors, and otherwise observe this completely fatuous ritual.
It most certainly does not save electricity. This isn't the 1940s: and homes and businesses keep their lights and heat on throughout the day, regardless of the time displayed on the clock. It doesn't save lives: studies have shown that it actually costs lives as people's sleep schedules are disrupted for days, causing an increase in traffic accidents. It doesn't help farmers: farmers rise with the sun. It doesn't help children: is it better for them to be going back and forth to school in the dark in the afternoon, when people are wide awake, or in the morning, when people are still groggy from having their sleep disrupted by this foolish Daylight Saving Time? In the middle of winter, it's dark in the morning and in the evening ANYWAY! So what does so-called Daylight Saving Time "save"? NOTHING! It *costs*, and it costs us dearly.
It is time to put an end to this ridiculous ritual. Write, call, AND email your federal and state representatives (DST is a federal scheme, but states can opt out of it), and tell them to STOP PLAYING WITH THE COUNTRY'S CLOCKS!
"You're not required" doesn't enter into it. Since the US government freaked out not even the date is the same, if it ever was.
I apologize, I misread what you said as "I think DST is internationally standardized" instead that you used to, and I was saying how it wasn't standardized at all XD I blame Daylights Savings induced sleep deprivation for the mistake.
Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?
yea seriously I've lost like three to four hours of sleep and I need like nine to eleven hours just to stay awake during the day... This random decision is mad grimey!!! I've been falling asleep all through out my classes and it's making it harder to get up in the morning for school... we should like make a giant petition asking the government to stop daylight savings time!
I went through it twice this year!!! I was in New York when the DST changed, and then 2 weeks later, changed in Europe, and I was here already for a week. So, I had to adapt not only to Jetlag, but also to daylight Savings time!
Surprisingly, I have no trouble adjusting to it. Same with time zone differences. It's weird because I try to go to sleep at the same time and I usually wake up at the same time without an alarm clock.
The annoyance I have with DST is that those sub-concious rules you use to approximate the time from how light/dark it is become completely invalid all at once
you know what, I think maybe we should just dump it, I don't really like the whole thing anyhow, always need a long time to really adjust the whole new schedule and once I am used to it, it's time to change again(.
