How do you meet people to date?

So, when you're over your old romance and ready to slide back into the dating scene, how do you meet people? Bars? Grocery stores? College classes? Online? Work? Something else entirely.

My longest-lasting affair was with an ex-coworker. We had a lot of chemistry, but we wanted very different things out of life, so we split up. She's been with her current partner, Kathy, for nearly five years now. Aside from a couple of quickie relationships here and there, I'm still single.

I met some nice guys through friends and just going to shows a lot. You see the same people who have similar tastes as you and start to hang out and get to know each other. It's great for mingling too.
Online dating has its ups and downs. The guy I'm seeing now, technically I met him on the net but I contacted him because I could have sworn I had seen him before at some shows as far back as 2 years ago, and I'm sure we had been at some of the same ones. He's actually the greatest guy I've ever dated!
I could never date a coworker. Don't know why. Just don't get into that thing I guess. Automatic off-limits!

I met my wife online on IRC if I was going to do it today I'd probably use Anonidate which allows freaks like furries/b-tards to find one another.

I would think it would be harder to find someone when you're looking.
Instead of focusing all your energy on finding that special someone, focus on yourself.
Otherwise, you just might find yourself looking at the wrong people.
Don't be afraid to refresh your head and heart on what you want. Take a break on looking...it's never too late for love...
Love is unexpected...so if you're looking for love, odds are you won't find it.
It's when you don't look, when you don't expect it, when good things happen.

Well, I'm going to just restrict myself to my current love. I met her at a bar. I went with friends and I was bored, but then I saw the bartender, and it was like falling for her the moment I saw her. I was very shy at the moment, but I kept going and we became friends. Three months later we were together, and it has been four years and a half.

Work and school...

My wife used to be my boss. We've been together for 5 years and married for 3. I agree with Sam. Don't look for it. Let it come to you. Just be patient.

You can meet someone just about anywhere!! Start looking for new things to do in your area that you enjoy (like hiking or kayaking) Guaranteed, you'll meet new people that enjoy being outdoors, too! Focus your energy on yourself, and you will exude self confidence that will be attractive.

The original poster was a she, just so you know. School and work are legitimate places to meet people because they offer a forum for one to get to know someone. But really, you can meet someone anywhere using that principle.

Also, there's no reason for you to be dogging after Doomzies here, regardless of what you think of her decisions, especially when they're already being discussed in another thread. You're mature enough to know better.

Also there's another wa to meet people: internet, chat rooms. My sister met her hubby on the net, they been married 8 years and have 2 kids. And another couple I know, also met on the Internet, and they have a girl. They've been together for 5 years.

My great uncle met his wife on the internet and they've been married for 4 years, I think. I also know a couple who I knew separately on the internet who eventually got together and got married this past year. New technology always breeds new ways to find someone and, hey, it's no longer just a young techie method either <!--s51-->:3<!--/s51-->

I think that it's ok to find internet love, if not, better than real life encounters, because you get to know them, and it's usually over a long course of time so you know they're not some crazy old dude pretending to be someone. You know their likes and dislikes and their sense of humor etc...
Well the guy I'm seeing now, it's going on 3 months and still wonderful, and I technically met him on the net. I still swear I'd seen him before at shows years ago but I'll never remember haha...
Either way, one of the best things that's happened to me!

I have gained a new respect for online relationships just for the simple fact that I know that since you can't be together physically, you spend lots more time talking and really getting to know each other.

I never look for guys, but they always seem to find me. I tend to agree that when you're not looking there's always someone knocking at your door...and when you do want a date and you do open the door...the street is empty!
