I'm not but a friend of mine is...and that scares me. One of my university biology professors who trained EMTs once confessed that his greatest fear was to be in an accident and look up to see one of his students working on him!
I am not but my brother is an EMT. He has been working as an EMT for over six years and actully loves the job very much. He has said that of course some days are worse than others. Why are you thinking of becoming an EMT or are you one already?
Im in the class now, but i ride with a squad and i like it a lot. I dont rele know why but it makes me happy when i go out in the field and stuff. And i rele like to help other people so this is sorta my way to help as much people as i can

You really have to have a strong stomach and energy to stay awake for long periods of time in that job. There will be times when the victim/patients won't pull through...can't say you can ever expect it when it happens but I commend them for doing what they do.
My mom is an EMT. Last year, after being a secretary for 30 years or so, she decided she needed a career change and took the courses to become an EMT. She passed the exams with flying colors. After serving as a volunteer for awhile, she got a job with an ambulance company in a city. I'm so proud of her! Her training has paid off, too...a few weeks ago, I was at home and actually ended up needed an ambulance. She was on call that night, hehe.
I was one for 24 yrs. I also worked in the emergency room of our local hospital for 16yrs. It is a brutal and hard way to make a living. If you have the strenghth for it you will do well, I have neither any more.
Wow, that's a long time! I'm sure you've had your share of horror stories...I'm also sure you were probably a very good worker if you were there that long! You could still help people with all the skills you picked up. That's more than a lot of people could say!
I think it is great that you want to help people. And like the above poster said it is so nice to work at a job that fulfills you and something that you enjoy doing.
I loved my work, but am glad it is over. I still have all my certificates and can save people in need. Thats comforting. Some times I hate traveling. Especially in the outdoors, which I love. There is always some one in need. But most that know me would say, she`s always there. Blessings to you all.
