RPC Garbage, wtf? Thu Jul 29, 2004 2:02:58 PM#9410Perm Link
Alright, so I downloaded Bum Fights for my own sick entertainment, and I got a message stating: "RPC Was Terminated Unexpectedly." And it then gave me 60 seconds to close my programs before shutting down. I was confused, and allowed it to shutdown, thinking it may fix itself after a fresh boot. Once my PC booted, my taskbar was gone, and I couldn't connect to the internet. So, I ran Panda Antivirus, and it came up with no virus. I ran Spybot and Adaware, no spyware. I used another PC I have to download the latest stinger, and I ran it on the other Machine VIA CD. Still, no luck. I've heard of the old MSBlaster.exe worm, but I've tried everything intstructed online to remove it, with still no luck. One instruction (from symantec) instructed me to type services.msc /s and to find RPC (not locator) in the right pane, right click, and click properties, then to uncheck the boxes. When I clicked properties, nothing happened. I waited, and tried again, still nothing. I've tried everything I can think of, and everything I've been told. Any suggestions, or should I format the drive? Thanks. Wallace.
http://www.trendmicro.com click personal, then click Housecall. If you have Adaware and Spybot and they're updated, run Housecall. It is a standalone virus scanner. It works well.
