Morning

Everything is edged-
even reflections cut.
Glimmer is glitter in
such cruelty.
A black cat flashes
emerald eyes under
the traffic.
I, incredulous,
seethe through the
skeptical masses,
my identity protected
in a black mask.
So real the cars exist,
crushed in the rush
I sneer, one shadow
stalking night in the realm
of scrutiny.

Nocturne II

She whispered something
I couldn't hear in my ear, and
suddenly it was night.
We were waiting for
a new experience, a departure
into clarity.
I couldn't see but I
felt her head tilt back, heard
the stubble growing on her shins,
which drowned my speculation.
What had she said? If
she wanted to go in, well,
I was cold. But she didn't
repeat it. "If I touch her,"
I thought, "I'll know."
But she was far away,
absorbed in the darkness.
Then it swallowed me as well.
I suddenly realized what
she'd whispered: "The sun
will rise soon."


Nocturne I

The dead horizon diluted
the horizon to yellow.
I was on my way
to an unfamiliar home.
The neighbor's flowers
stank of decaying angels.
Somewhere a canine
howl pierced the silence.
Everything was changed
by the darkness, and I lost
my way. I wanted
to feed the dog some flowers.

The dome of stars touched
the valley's western side
when I found my new porch
where the dog sang a requiem
for the slowly falling petals,
his hackles raised.

Beneath a Stone

Subtly sensual blacks and grays swirl
serpent-like behind my eyelids where
I hide hours beneath a stone-
mysteries of darkness.
When the sun sets my eyes snap open;
these moments I live
inside you. Images of energy
surround you, where my flesh walks
I curl around the tangled folds
of indistinctly drifting thoughts,
caught in the merciless currents of
incessantly surging obsession with passion.
I long to run down
the curve that arches heart to thighs
and catch in the hollow below
echoes of my blood
pounding for you as
words blow through me, inspire
your hands.
I must explore
your luminous landscape
flooded in tremors of stormy fire
our celestial efforts make;
and when the last restraints snap,
we reap pleasure's dance,
convulsively grasp lucid ecstasy
I'm compelled to keep us there,
accumulated effulgence filling us-
And when we soar for hours
I'll hide mysteries of darkness
beneath a stone.
