Growing plants indoor... LED lighting

I think I'm going to try growing some veggies inside over the winter and use LEDs to grow them.

I'll have to experiment on what to use, but green are out. Since the plant is green, it won't absorb the light (it is being reflected). I think some red and blue LEDs... an infrared, an UV, and some others may be good. I'm not going to go overboard on the non-visible spectrum LEDs, they aren't that cheap.

I'll build a breadboard of an array of LEDs. It'll run on 4 AA rechargeable batteries. That's 1.2V * 4 = 4.8V. I forgot most of my circuits and electronics work from college, I hope there is enough amps in the batteries for these to be in parallel. There probably is more than enough and I'll need a resistor for each loop.

I thought UV lights of some sort were required to grow stuff indoors? That was why fluorescent bulbs are still popular for doing so even though LEDs are pretty much better across the board.


Also, in before someone starts talking about growing weed.

Actually, the people that grow weed are the best to talk to. They have extensive knowledge on what works and what doesn't. Feel free to comment!

I don't think UV lights are required. I do have daylight CFLs that should be good as well, but they will suck up more power.

Yes, please. I'm not interested in the weed growing... but I do like growing peppers and other veggies.

Yeah i don't like weed so i don't grow it. You should grow chille peppers. Also why not grow out side?
