This webcrawler has been trashing my webserver for awhile now and it is causing some very high loads on the server (400 views/minute). This is a problem and I have contacted the company and awaiting a resolution.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

Could that have been a cause of the forced server reboot recently?

No, I don't think so. I also don't think the server was 'down' just that some services decided to take a dump (like all of them). Next time I'll be prepared to find out the cause without rebooting the server.
