Reflection

(Please don't post anything to this creation. This may disturb some people as this can contain girl's love... Basically I'm thinking on whether or not it will contain some. If you ever read this, it may come as confusing as this will have different perspectives of each character. Anyways, enjoy!)

"Will you lose again another important and precious person because of your incompetence?" the voice asks me. It was a very nostalgic voice but at the same time, I felt helpless and uncomfortable. I open my eyes. Darkness swallowed my whole existence. I can't see anything- my clothes, my hands. The actions I am making is the only way to confirm that I exist.

Struggling to find myself, I become agitated and wanted to scream. Alas! No sound comes out from my mouth. I look around, hoping to see some sort of exit. This already happened to me many times before but I always see a way out. Usually, it shouldn't be this dark, I should be able to speak, and some other people that I hold dear should be here. Frustrated, I decide to walk. For insurance, I lift my hand in front of me and is straight. The step I take is only one. Taking about thirty steps, my hand touches something solid. Moving my hand up, down, left, and right, the surface is smooth that it could probably be a wall.

In the corner of my right eye, something appears. There is something like a blue aura and it takes a shape of a human. I face it. As I have no voice to let out and I can't see anything besides it, I blankly stared. Slowly, the shape becomes seen and I can identify the clothes and the part of body. It moves closer to me and the face is awfully familiar. It looked at me straight in the eye and gave me a smile. A terrifying confident smile. The kind of smile that murderers give off after they kill someone. "It's useless. It seems that you will fail this time too." it says to me as it disappears. Having pretty much of the idea in what will happen next, I sighed. I closed my eyes and opened it again, seeing the usual scenery.

The day has come, that I will have my own familiar. Even though they are called like that, their ranks are a little bit lower than us and they are respected by the other lower servants. Their position is even higher of a knight and Chevalier. They are also not tied down by the nobles and can freely do whatever they want. My two elder sisters have their own familiars. I envy and admire them the same time. I have no choice but to head out. In the ceremony room, which is a sacred place, is where each princesses summon their familiars. I said only princesses because the only people capable of having magic are women of all ages. Men use spears and shields to fight and women use their magic to protect their country and fight off evils. There are schools for this kinds of things but my parents doesn't want me to attend them unless I have my own familiar. Frustrated by this, I have no other choice but to have one.

"It seems that you are here and decided not to run away. That is good." My mother says. Well, I could probably say the Queen. As she tells me this, I got irritated. "Of course I won't. I want to go to school and this is the only reason why I'm doing this." I replied. "I see. Well, do you best. Do it like I explained, okay?" she tells me. The Queen closes the door and I am the only one left in this room. Darkness swallowed everything but there are candle lights so I guess it is okay. As my mother explained, I should prick my finger so blood will flow. I did it and my blood drops to the floor. Seconds later, a white circle appears.



Inside of the magic circle, I can't help but stare at it. At the center of the magic circle, a human appears. My sisters have summoned human familiars too but it is supposed to be impossible for me. I can't help but to look at this creature with awe. It looked at me. Even though it has a mask, it keeps following my every movement. Immediately I rushed outside and informed my mother about this.

"Is the ceremony over already?" she asks. Unable to speak, I just dragged her inside the room. "H-hey? What's wrong, Cattle-" I look at her and she has a confused expression on her face. "Did you summon that?" the Queen says with her voice shaking. "Yes. Please tell me what that is. Is that human? Or another species that we know not of? Please tell me. Even a lie would work." I plead to my mother. I look at it again. I think it is looking here but it won't move in its position. This calmed me a little bit and my nervousness disappears. It just looks at me and not saying a word or even moving. It just stands there. I look at my mother and she smiles gently. "Hey, mother. What is that?" I ask. She looks at me and answers, "That is your familiar. You should seal the contract. I'll be waiting outside." my mother goes outside and closes the door.

Looking at it in a calmer perspective, it doesn't seem to be hostile against me. I walk towards it and touch its hand. I lifted it and pricked its finger. Blood comes out and I suck it. The magic circle disappears and the candle light immediately goes off except the one near the door. Darkness surrounds us but I can still feel its presence as I am still holding its hand. Slowly, we walk towards the door and opens it.

Today is the fated day for my daughter, Cattleya. As she is the youngest of the three of them, she is quite spoiled. From the beginning, she has the potential to be a great mage and because of that people started targeting her. For protection, this is the only way we can think of. At the very least, having a familiar would be a threat to those plotting to take our children away. Cattleya arrives and starts to complain. She seems to be quite angry. She enters the room and left her there. A few minutes later, she exits and drags me frantically. As I look at her familiar, I remembered some words from my deceased familiar. "Your daughters will all have humans as their familiar. This is what I foresee. Those familiars are compatible with their masters however, one of them is quite dangerous. One advice. Even if the familiar is dangerous, don't treat that person indifferently.

Remembering those words means that he existed. This gave me a warm feeling. "Hey, mother. What is that?" Cattleya asks. I replied, "That is your familiar. You should seal the contract. I'll be waiting outside." as I said, I went outside. Few moments later, they both exits the room and her familiar suddenly falls.

As I open my eyes, an unfamiliar place is seen. The only person I see was some stranger and she looked shocked. That was understandable because of my line of work. But anyone shouldn't know who I am. The stranger is escaping and I need to kill her fast. As I move my foot, a large surge of electricity flowed through me. My past wounds are felt but no blood is seen. This felt torture. Everytime I move, the same thing happens over and over again. Hurt, I stop moving. I close my eyes and it seems that I can move only my head. I stand there, frozen. I need to save my strength in order to kill the witness. Someone who sees my face is someone that should be killed.

As I open my eyes, the stranger is close to me and held my hand. I look at her and she seems to be calm. The first person that I don't know to come near me is refreshing. I felt trust in her so I decided not to do anything. I felt a little sting in my finger and blood flows. Surprised because she sucked my blood, my heart beat faster. The moment she lets go of my finger, the room becomes dark. It seems that I can escape but decided not to, for unknown reasons. I followed her outside and my sight suddenly becomes blurry. I felt my body fall to the ground.

As I open my eyes, I see an unfamiliar ceiling. You could say that they are made from rocks or bricks, like the castles or palaces in England. Realizing that I am in a 'hostile area', I quickly touch my face. My mask seems to be intact. Feeling pain after I moved my arm, I let out a small sound. Noticing it, a girl beside me is alerted. She looked worried. This made me more confused. The girl treats me like I am a 'normal' person who is wounded. Occasions like these rarely happens to me. I heard the door open. The girl who treated me backs off and lowers her head.

"It seems that you are awake. Bringing you here was troublesome." A girl, slightly familiar, says to me.

Lying on the bed, I slowly sit and pain starts to appear. Seeing her in better view, I think about where I met her. A certain image pops up, "Oh, you are the girl that I met earlier." I say and points my finger at her.

Her expression irritated, I expect her to say some rude things. "Can you leave us for a while? I want to have a talk with it." But it seems that I guessed wrong.

The servant who treated me quickly goes away and the two of us are alone in a room. The girl walks near me and sits on the chair.

"Do you know what is happening?" The girl asks me.

"Yes, I do not know what is happening." I look around the room to search for exit points other than the place where the girl went in. There is a door in the opposite of the place where she entered and windows a few meters above me. I look back at her again, "May I ask what is your name?"

The girl looking at me, her expression is a little surprised. "You do not know me?"

"Yes. That is the reason why I asked." I said to her.

The girl sighs, obviously disappointed and confused. "I am the third princess of the country Wagner, Cattleya Augusta Wagner. Is this name familiar?"

"No, it isn't. First time hearing of it." Interested of what she is going to say, I hold off my plans in escaping. "I apologize but this is my first time hearing a country named Wagner. I am really confused. Can you explain to me what is happening?" I said to her with a voice, pleading.

"I will since it is my responsibility. But before I do that, I need to see your face and know your name." the third princess states.

"I apologize but I have no name. I also don't want you to see my face." I said to her simply.

"Why?" the princess asks. "Is it too much to ask?"

Her expression shows curiosity yet there is no hostility. My presence in this place is still unknown to me and their actions are too foreign and I don't understand. Letting my curiosity let loose and ignoring the rationality, this would make me do and think about irrational decisions yet again. Thus, my decision is yes.

Puzzled by what it said, I thought about it for a little while. Seeing as it nodded earlier, I lift my hand and decides to take its mask off. Immediately, it grabs my arm and says to me, "I will take it off. Sit down". Immediately, I did what it said without thinking much about it. The voice it gives off make you feel you are inferior. This familiar is the first that I have seen being able to command its master without a question.

Again it speaks, "Before I take off my mask, please give me a name."

"Name? Can't you think of one?" I reply to it.

It sighs. This makes me irritated, "What was the sigh for?"

"I am your possession. Meaning that you have the every right to order me. Having a name you didn't give me means that you have no right to order or request anything to me. Also, giving me name means that you have power over me." The familiar explains to me. What it said really made sense since it is like that when my mother says my name.

I thought about a name that can suit her. Since I cannot see her expression, I thought of blank. "I decided. Your name is Creux."

"Hmm?" Its voice sounded like it caught some interest in the name I gave it. "Why do you name me that?"

"Well, since I can't see your face, I have no memory of your expressions. Meaning that my memories of you is blank and will be if you don't take your mask off." I answered to it.

"Very well, I accept the name you gave me. I am Creux and I am your familiar." It is reaching for its mask then suddenly it speaks again, "I apologize but can you do me one last favor?"

Tired of questioning its replies, I simply answer, "It depends..."

"I... um..." Creux pauses its sentence but I still waited even though this is making me impatient. "I want you to be the only one to know my identity. No one else. Even anyone dear to you."

I sigh and question, "Is that all?"

"Yes. Do you comply?" it asks me.

I simply nod. Creux's hand touch its face, taking off the mask, revealing its face.



Much to my surprise, I was left speechless.

Seeing such a sight, I wondered why it wore such a terrifying mask. Why did Creux hid its face? Why does it not want to show it to anyone? How can it wear a mask with a cute face? I wondered and wondered, just looking at it. "...cute..."

"Pardon? Did you just say something?" Creux asks. Remembering what I said, I felt my face hot and is probably forming a funny expression. "N-no.... Of course not! Why would I even think of how cute you are?" I answer it in a very loud voice. Saying cute twice is a very embarrassing statement. I look away from her.

Creux chuckles a bit, its voice is gentle and soft. Like you would hear from someone's elder sister. "You... really are interesting..." As it speaks, I was surprised. A cold and serious voice is heard. Slowly, I steal a glance at it. Creux's expression is lonely and sad but its eyes has no emotion in it. This made my heart ache a bit.

"Knock, knock!" A voice is heard behind the door. The door slams open and my elder sister appears cheerfully as usual. Going on her own pace not caring about the other party.



Remembering the favor Creux asked, I quickly look back to my familiar. A mask is already on its face. Unlike the earlier mask it had on, this one is plain. Plain white. No designs. I sigh of relief and turns to my sister.

"What are you doing here? I thought you are at Roland?" I ask her.

"I am here for your familiar!" she says cheerfully and looks at Creux, "Though it isn't what I expected. Never thought you are having a human familiar." she looks back at me again and adds, "But good for you!"

I open my mouth but close it again. "Thanks." I smiled.

"You know, you shouldn't really pick on Cattleya much." My eldest sister tells her off. A cheerful expression forms on my face.

Hearing someone's footsteps, I quickly grab my mask which is on the bed, trying to make the princess unaware of what I am doing. The door slams open and I quickly put it on, accidentally touching the reset button of the mask. Realizing that regretting it is pointless, I turn to my master. She looks worried and sighs. Her expression became softer, unknown reasons to me, and turns to the girl which she gives me the impression that she is her sister. She talks but there is another presence that cannot be seen but only felt. The princess still talks to her sister but I paid little attention to it.

The presence has yet to move so I paid attention to my master's expression. While talking to her sister, Cattleya seems to force herself too much. Having her sister say some things which somehow hurts her feeling, another person enters, that seems to defend her.

I stand up even though there is pain felt in my body. I forced my posture to be straight. I put my hand to my chest and bows to them. After a few seconds, I lifted my head up and walks to the bed where I laid down earlier.

"Wait." the black-haired girl says. I turn towards her and look, "Yes?" I ask.

"You are Cattleya's familiar, am I correct?" the girl questions. I nod to her. "I see. Then I believe I should introduce myself. My name is Erika Forger Wagner, the first princess of this kingdom." the girl turns to the other girl, gesturing her to introduce herself.

"I am the second princess of Wagner, Yvette Lance Wagner." the second princess sighs and looks back at Cattleya. She smiles gently to her and walks near her. Yvette, nearing to the side of Cattleya's ears, probably whispered something since my master's expression becomes gentler.

The third princess looks at me and walks in my direction. She stops and our distance is a step away. Cattleya smiles at me gently and steps forward. "My sisters, this is my familiar. Its name is Creux. Though I do not know of its abilities, I look forward for it to be working with you."

As she finishes to speak, I look at her back - her posture is showing with confidence, her words are filled with trust. This made my heart ache. I know of the future yet I want to be hurt again because of my irrationality. I look at her sisters, I put my left hand to my back, my right hand to my chest, and bow my upper body in a 60° angle. "It is my pleasure to meet you and I look forward to working with you." I state and lift my head again.

"Your familiar is respectful and elegant. Excellent work, Cattleya." the first princess comments. Cattleya's face expresses happiness. The comment did make me happy.

The second princess, Yvette, though doesn't look quite amused. She smirks and says, "Having a familiar which is useless in the field is no good, even if one has respect and elegance."

Cattleya seems irritated by the comment by which I do not mind. Since I am her owner, she is probably pissed off by what her sister comments. "That's not true! It is capable!" the third princess defends. Saying such would only make matters worse.

"How about a duel between my familiar and yours?" Yvette states with confidence. "If I win, then you have to admit that you are wrong."

"What about if you lose?" Cattleya asks.

The second princess smirks, "Do you think I would lose? Then if I ever lose, how about I do anything you want? How does that sound?"

My master hesitates before answering, "Fine! We can duel now if you want! Stupid sister!"

Now, they seem to be arguing about useless things which entertains me. Before I notice it, the first princess is already near me. Not noticing this, it made me aware that she isn't someone that should be mess with.

The first princess speaks in a voice that only I can hear. "I apologize if they are like that. It is only a small arguing with sisters. They are always like that so please bear with them." Erika speaks in a happy tone and chuckles a bit.

"Don't worry. That just means that they are close. Yes, they are truly close." I speak. Remembering some of my past is difficult as some is erased. Though when I remember the face of that person, an emptiness is felt in my heart. "Um, how do you want me to address you? Only addressing you as 'you' is quite impolite."

I look at the first princess and she thinks about it. "You can just call me Erika. And don't add princess to it since I don't want to be addressed too politely." she looks at me and smiles, "I am quite surprised. When they are introduced to a princess, they should already know that they are supposed to address us as Princess Forger, in my case."

"I see. I actually came from a... foreign land... that has no knowledge of the customs here. I apologize if I didn't meet your expectations?" I reply to her.

"That is quite rare. I am quite interested but you seem to reply hesitantly. I won't ask for now." Erika states.

"Thank you. I have a question though. What is a duel?" I ask.

Erika seems surprised and looks at me, puzzled. "You do not know of a duel?"

I thought about what it is that I said wrong. "It seems that I chose some wrong words. I know of a duel. That is where two people or more fight. What I meant earlier is what kind of duel. Actually, believe it or not but I have no idea that magic exists." I slightly laugh.

Erika sighs and answers, "There are duel rules that can be set up before the participants can fight but the most common duel is called 'Elimination of Angels'."

"Angels? The... um...participants have to kill angels? I know this is pathetic in my side but what are Angels?"

"You don't know that, huh?" she sighs and adds, "You'll just know what I mean but they are really violent and kills human in site. Well, some of them eat humans so they are quite a show. Ah! Don't worry, it is quite safe since there are collars in their neck. Once there is a collar, they can be easily killed."

"What will happen if the collars get destroyed?" I ask, quite interested on what will happen.

"They cannot be killed without casualties when they are rampant. Well, it can't happen that much since we always reinforce it everytime we have the chance." The first princess states quite confident.

"I see." I look back at the two sisters and they seem to stop arguing. Cattleya speaks loudly and states, "Then, the duel will commence this afternoon. No backing out, alright?"

"You bet! There's no way that I would lose to a weakling like you!" Yvette walks out and is nowhere to be seen.

"I must go now too. I apologize for the trouble even though it is your first day in here." The princess slightly bow her head and follows the second princess.

The third princess walks towards me and her steps are heavy. "You have to win, got that?" she orders me.

Seeing my youngest sister, Cattleya, quite energetic, I felt my spirit raise a bit. After a joyful talk with my sister, I walk out of the room.

"You know, we could have just checked up on Cattleya a little later. It seemed that we interrupted their conversation." Erika comments. The expression on her face is not disappointed and not entertained. As usual, she has this poker face and makes it very difficult to communicate. "Are you sure you want to have a duel? I talked to her and she seemed to be ignorant of her surroundings." she adds.

"Yeah, I want to. I need to know the capabilities of her familiar." I answered to her.

A slight smile surfaces on her face which made me surprised. Erika has never smiled like that before. She smiles gently, softly, towards me and Cattleya; sometimes to our mother too. But her smiling because of interest is rarely seen. "You know, I rarely see you interested in someone. What of her caught you?" I ask her.

"I don't know. Maybe the fact that she became careful the moment that I approached her." Her smile disappears and her face becomes serious. "Creux is too cautious. She sees everyone as a threat. Maybe we should be careful too."

"Careful? Why? She's just a familiar of Cattleya. It seems that you are underestimating me." I said to her, angry and irritated. The way I spoke to her is unintentional but I can't stand being looked down on.

"Look. I know that Cattleya hasn't executed a single spell but it's because the Queen sealed her magical capabilities. And besides, I am definitely not looking down on you. Maybe I am just overestimating her too much." Her expression is apologetic so I can't help but forgive her.

"Alright, alright. I'll be careful. Sorry about what I said too. And I already know that information. She did tell us that. I do wonder why. Because of her sealing off Cattleya's magic, she's being labeled as a 'useless' person." I tell her as we continue to walk.

I continue to walk and footsteps of Erika are not heard. I look at her and she lowers her head. Her expression, depressed. "Hey, what's wrong?" I ask her.

She seems hesitant to answer, "I'm sorry. I won't ask. I'll meet you later at the arena?"

"Yeah." Erika answers and walks away, opposite of my direction, going to her room.

"This time, I have to give my sister a good show. But can I do it by using Creux?" I thought to myself and it looks at me. It walks to me and held out its hand. "Am I supposed to destroy the so called Angel or is it the familiar?" it asks me. Without realizing it, I already backs off and created a distance between us. As it starts to walk again, "STOP! DON'T COME NEAR ME!" I shouted to it.

"My apologies." It stops to move from its place. "What is the distance that you want me to not come near you?" Again, it asks.

Pretty much speechless about what it said, I quickly gave a reply that first comes to mind. "O-one and a half meters....?"

"I understand. Actually, I do not know what this Angel you were talking about. Can you please explain it to me? The only information that I have is that those Angels are violent and eats people in sight." Creux says to me, still not moving from its position.

"As the name suggests, Angel means that they are pretty holy when you look at them. They said that in the old days, they were pure white and destructive but because of the knowledge we obtained in magic spells, we are able to fight them equally. Well, for women anyways." I explained to it, still watching for Creux's movements.

".... I see....." It replies to me. "Can you show me where the duel is to be held?" It requests.

I look at it. It doesn't move and I turn my back to it. I take one step and turns to Creux. It moved but our distance is still the same. I sprinted to the corridor as fast as I can and arrives at my room unintentionally. I look back and Creux was there and the sames distance is still the same as we left.

"You really plan on staying on that same distance?" I ask it.

It nods to me, "That is your order and I simply obey. Why are you running away in the first place?" It questions me again.

"I," I catch some of my breath for a little bit and continues, "I kind of thought that you were really frightening a second there. It must be some kind of reflex? I rarely meet people like you so maybe that is the reason?" I replied to it, unsure of what I am saying. "While I change my clothes, will you wait here outside?"

"Understood. I'll be waiting." Creux replies. Its cold and tone of the voice for some unknown reason really scares me. I open my door and starts to change in a much more comfortable clothes.

I look at the mirror and everything is set. I open my door and signals Creux to follow me. We walked a little bit outside of the palace and arrives at the Duel area.
