WD reply is shallow can anyone help? Wed Sep 1, 2010 9:40:32 AM#132882Perm Link
I wrote to WD about using their Caviar Black in a software RAID 1 array and got this response: "I truly apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately we don't recommend our Caviar drives on a RAID array or on a Linux environment. It might work, but we haven't tested yet" .
That of course threw me a bit but I am hoping someone here may have already used these drives in this fashion.
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3, Phenom II X4 970 Black @ 3.5, G.Skill Sniper DDR3-1600 4 X 4 gig's, WD Black 7200rpm 1.5 TB, ATI Fire-Pro V4800 Kubuntu & Ubuntu 64-bit on separate primary partitions and sharing Doc.'s,Music and Pictures on a Logical Partition.

They'll work fine. What they WANTED to say was that you should use their more expensive enterprise drives.
Just do it, no worries.
Yep, I will second that! Almost all of the hard drive manufactures will claim that. See, they want you to purchase "enterprise" drives at 10 times the price to guarantee RAID compatibility. LOL.
