ASOCS's vBS is a key to a successful implementation of an end-to-end NFV
solution, enabled by a vibrant ecosystem of startup companies as well as established
vendors.
The virtualization of a base station remains as one of the last bastions on
the road to a comprehensive end-to-end NFV solution for mobile network infrastructure.
Virtual Base-station requires a substantial set of open standards and
interfaces to other network functions such as the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and Remote
Radio Units (RRU),that ASOCS with Intel and other partners is aiming to establish.
"ASOCS is proud to join the Intel Network Builders initiative to create a
healthy choice of vendors and solutions," said Victor Koretsky, Vice President of Business
Development at ASOCS, "ASOCS Solution is a perfect match with Intel vision of
virtualization and centralization of Wireless signal processing."
ASOCS' work together with other ecosystem partners lays the foundation of
taking the IntelA(R) Data Plane Development Kit (IntelA(R) DPDK) and Wind River Carrier
Class Communication Server to the extreme performance required for real-time mobile
communication signal processing. Based on extensive ASOCS background in Software-Defined
Radio (SDR), this task is key in building carrier-class future-proof communication
equipment based on commercial off-the-shelf servers.
"One of our goals in working with Intel Network Builders members, including
ASOCS, is to help bring innovative SDN and NFV services to market more quickly," said Renu

Technical Vision Inc. Launches My Mobile Light(TM) Low Vision Mobility Aid
My Mobile Light(TM) combines Bright Lighting and Mobility Support to help individuals with low vision maintain daily independence
PIPERSVILLE, Pa., Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Technical Vision Inc., a product development company focused on designing and manufacturing assistive devices and technologies for the visually and physically disabled, today announced the launch of the company's premier mobility aid product, My Mobile Light(TM) Low Vision Aid.
My Mobile Light combines two types of assistance in a single Aid for Daily Living: a clear, ultra-bright LED light to illuminate the travel path of individuals with low vision who suffer from impaired depth perception and spatial cognition, and a walking cane for support of balance and gait. My Mobile Light provides intense and even lighting in a wide arc in front of and laterally along the sides of the travel path of the user to reduce the risk of falling and to create a more confident and independent walking experience.
My Mobile Light was designed and tested in collaboration with low vision rehabilitation therapists at a leading College of Optometry; IMET Corporation, a Southampton, PA based contract manufacturing and product development firm specializing in PCB Assembly and Electronics Engineering; and MTS Ventures, an engineering, product design and manufacturing company in Allentown, PA. Low vision simulators were used in development to create the same nighttime travel conditions that would be experienced by people with different types of vision impairments. Varying intensities, spectra and angles of illumination were tested to identify the optimal configuration for navigation in low lighting.
Low vision impairs depth and color perception and the ability to judge distances, especially in poorly lighted environments. This can dramatically decrease a person's mobility. Research has shown that the combination of low vision and low light doubles the risk falling and that fifty percent of falls occur at home, most often on level surfaces.
"Our goal was to create an effective, practical and easy-to-use daily living aid for people with visual impairments," said Technical Vision CEO Lorraine Keller, Ph.D. "When testing our device under simulated low vision conditions the most profound realization for me was becoming completely sightless in the dark; only then did I understand the degree of vision loss and disorientation individuals with low vision experience in the absence of adequate lighting."
Keller continued, "One of the greatest fears of people with vision loss is getting around safely at home and away without being injured by tripping or falling. Through our testing we've developed a mobility aid that delivers optimal light positioning, intensity and color for the low vision user in a support cane design that is easy to use for everyday support."

Rabobank Selects VASCO CrontoSign Technology for Online Banking Security and Customer Convenience
Authentication Solution with High Definition QR Code Prevents Fraud While Enhancing Ease of Use
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- VASCO Data Security International, Inc. (NASDAQ: VDSI), a global leader in authentication, electronic signatures, and identity management, announced today that Rabobank has introduced the Rabo Scanner, a VASCO DIGIPASS® Authenticator featuring CrontoSign technology that uses visual transaction signing to increase user-friendliness while providing the highest level of online banking transaction security.
Banks are implementing new technologies to improve the user friendliness of online banking while protecting the transactions and assets of their customers. The Rabo Scanner is an innovative authentication device that allows customers to conduct online banking services in an easy way and at the same time it protects against malicious attacks thanks to its innovative visual authentication and transaction signing technology.
CrontoSign technology utilizes a next generation QR code which is a color cryptographic matrix displayed on the customer's tablet, smartphone or PC screen. During an online banking transaction, the customer uses a VASCO card reader with an embedded camera and color display to capture the QR code from the screen of their device. This allows the customer to see the details of what the bank believes the customer has requested, specifically the amount of the transaction and the payee. This information is encrypted in the high definition QR-code and cannot be altered or replicated by a hacker.
CrontoSign mitigates the increasing risk of banking malware and Man-in-the-Middle attacks, and provides the customer and the bank an assurance that the payment instructions have not been altered. This innovative process enables a simple way of providing high-level security that is necessary to protect online and mobile banking against the most sophisticated new attacks.
Recently, Trend Micro released a report that profiled the Emmental banking attack. In the report, Trend Micro identified VASCO's CrontoSign technology as a method of protection against this new and highly sophisticated banking attack.
"We are constantly looking for new methods to provide our customers with the convenience of conducting online banking transactions with simplicity and safety," said Marielle Lichtenberg, Head of Marketing Personal & Private Banking at Rabobank.
"Rabobank and VASCO have enjoyed a wonderful history together," said Jan Valcke, President and COO of VASCO Data Security. "We know that Rabobank has a remarkable reputation for providing customers with a safe banking environment and the ultimate in convenience, so we are delighted that they selected VASCO for this project."

How Tintag Finds Items
Using advanced Bluetooth technology with an improved antenna, the Tintag mobile apps (iOS and Android) help consumers quickly find any lost object that has the small Tintag device attached (via a sticker or small metal hoop). Unlike other tracking devices, Tintag devices offer more ways to find lost items: 1) a flash of LED lights, 2) a beep sound, and 3) an action button that allows a user to "ring" his/her phone or other paired mobile device within about 150 feet (or 50 meters).
With the Keep Close option on the Tintag app, users can set a preferred distance and get alerted if an item moves farther than this distance. The Tintag app allows users to track and find an unlimited number of items. It also saves the history of locations each time an item changes its location, helping users easily remember where they've left their item.
One Tintag for Multiple Phones
Unlike traditional tracking devices, a Tintag device can be connected to multiple phones at the same time (iPhone and/or Android phones). This is helpful, for example, if both parents want to simultaneously locate their child or pet. Tintag devices are sturdy (polymer front and back covers), small (39.2mm x 28mm), wireless and waterproof.
Finding Items Far Away
The Home Base Companion can also function as a Bluetooth hotspot that constantly scans for Tintag devices day and night. In the future, Tintag eventually plans to use multiple Home Base Companions to create a network of hotspots that help users to track and find lost items from far away (e.g., a cafe, store, a friend or relative's house, etc). Consumers also form a "lost and found community," so when someone finds a lost item and enters the Tintag's unique ID on http://www.found.tint.ag, users immediately receive a notification with the location of the item.
Tintag does not require users to create an account to use its mobile app. And Tintag stores data anonymously, ensuring that a person's information is safe and can never be linked to his/her identity.
Pricing and Availability
Tintag is available now for pre-order and the company plans to ship the first 500 prototypes with beta mobile apps as soon as November 2014. Fully optimized Tintag devices and apps are slated to ship in April 2015. During the Indiegogo campaign, one Tintag device with its home base charger costs only $19 (a $30 retail price value). The full press kit with product photos, company logo, and co-founders' headshots is here.
Coriant Enhances Multiservice Transport Solution for Seamless Evolution to New Services
New Feature Release for Coriant 6350 Switch Node Quadruples Switch Matrix and Service Interface Capacity
NAPERVILLE, Ill., Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Coriant, a global supplier of dynamic metro-to-core transport solutions, today announced a significant capacity upgrade to the Coriant(TM) 6350 Switch Node. The 6350 Switch Node is a high-capacity multiservice transport platform designed for efficient transport of diverse traffic in metro-edge networking applications. This new feature release quadruples the switch matrix (400G, high order/80G low order) and service interface capacity (2.5G/10G).
As networks begin to migrate to packet and Optical Transport Network (OTN)-based transport technologies, it is important that existing Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Ethernet services continue to be efficiently supported. The quadruple capacity increase of the 6350 Switch Node allows customers to replace multiple nodes with one 6350, on a single shelf. As a result, OpEx is reduced and operators are able to offer new revenue-generating broadband services.
The 6350 Switch Node utilizes SDH and Ethernet switching, along with low-order grooming capabilities to enable efficient transport of end-user business services, mobile backhaul and IP offload traffic. Key features of the multiservice platform include seamless scalability and low latency when Ethernet is mapped into SDH and OTN, facilitating integration into OTN transport networks.
"It is a time of significant progress and new advances in the telecommunications industry. Ubiquitous broadband is unquestionably a force of positive change across Central America," commented Jorge Escobedo, CEO of Grupo STG. "At the core of the broadband movement is the end-to-end transport infrastructure that will serve as the engine for a new generation of services and applications linking citizens and communities across vast distances and driving economic development. Coriant has been a trusted partner for 20 years and this support is critical to our ability to meet the needs of our customers."
"Operators need an easy way to modernize their traditional SDH networks. With the quadrupled switching capacity of the 6350, operators can easily, and without disruption, upgrade existing nodes while adding new services," commented Alberto Barriento, Latin America and Caribbean Region Vice President for Coriant. "Coriant has thousands of 6300 series network elements deployed worldwide, and we are committed to ensuring seamless transition for our customers as they evolve their transport networks."

Piql Announces Norwegian Technology that Secures 500 Years Access to Digital Data
OSLO, Norway, September 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Malicious hacking, bit rot and data corruption; the challenges are immense when it
comes to securing digital data. Then how can long-term access to our digital heritage be
assured? Norwegian company Piql has found the answer by reinventing the use of a
well-known storage medium.
There is a worldwide concern about the lack of technologies truly suited for long-term
preservation of digital data. Magnetic storage medium are short-lived and best used for
back-ups, whilst security and privacy issues make the Cloud unsuitable for the purpose.
5%[1] of the world's digital data requires secure, long-term preservation.
With a EUR20 million research project, supported by the EU and the Norwegian
government[2], Piql has developed a unique solution for migration-free digital
preservation. The technology lifts photosensitive film into the digital era.
"Our goal has been to keep valuable digital data securely preserved and accessible for
500 years. Ensuring that the data cannot be modified or deleted is imperative in this
context." comments Rune Bjerkestrand, Managing Director of Piql AS. A true preservation
solution must also secure future access independent of availability to specific
technologies or vendors.
Photosensitive film has been used as a preservation medium for decades, by archives
(microfilm) and by the large film studios in e.g. Hollywood. However the usage has been
limited to preservation of analogue images. Piql's technology enables preservation of
digital data on high-resolution film. The data is written on a preservation medium with
proven long-term qualities, stored offline in physical form. Yet the data is fully
searchable as in other digital storage technologies. Instructions on how to retrieve the
data in the future is written in readable text on the film.
Piql supplements technologies used for short-lived information and back-ups, and is
offered to data owners through an international network of service providers.
Piql AS provides solutions within digital preservation, and has converted
photosensitive film into a digital storage medium. Piql is also behind Cinevator, the
world's leading digital film printer. The company was started in 2002 and is based in

SINGAPORE, Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- RS Components <http://sg.rs-online.com/> (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc <http://www.electrocomponents.com/> (LSE: ECM), the global distributor for engineers, today announced availability of the new version of the RepRapPro Ormerod 3D printer which offers extensive versatility and functionality in an easy-to-assemble kit of parts. 3D printing enables electronic and mechanical engineers to quickly and easily realise early design concepts by creating fast-turnaround prototypes, potentially saving months in the product design cycle.
The RepRapPro Ormerod 2 is a single-colour low-cost 3D printing machine that is a full open-source and self-replicating RepRap and is one of the most versatile 3D printers available: it is easy to expand in functionality, fast to replicate and fast to assemble. All the RepRapPro printers, including previous machines such as the Ormerod and Mendel, are capable of self-replicating their own plastic components.
The Ormerod 2 brings several advantages compared to its predecessor, including a much simpler and more integrated assembly with improved instructions and wiring looms for simple plugin connection and no soldering necessary.
Other improvements come in the areas of the build bed, the y-carriage design, bed probe, extruder and power supply, as well as better emissions control and software support. For example, the Ormerod 2 design offers much easier adjustment of the bed level; improvedy-axis belt location and retention delivers easier adjustment of belt tension; and a new bed probe now features a four-wire differential device, as well as providing much easier access to the extruder for cleaning purposes. In addition, the power supply is now a 100-240V worldwide input power supply and is a dedicated 12V supply, rather than being an adapted supply, and is more compact with its integration into the machine with no trailing wires. EMI emissions have also been reduced, resulting from a fully shielded design that meets the Class A CE mark.
Specifications of the Ormerod 2 printer include: build volume and speed of 200 x 200 x 200mm and 1800mm/min, respectively; a deposition rate of 33cm3 per hour; accuracy and layer resolution of 0.1mm and 0.01mm, respectively; and ability to print using either PLA or ABS thermoplastic materials. The open-source software designed to run the machine is fully compatible with the original Ormerod printer and will run on a relatively low powered computer running Windows, Linux/Ubuntu or Mac OS.
The RepRapPro Ormerod 2 is shipped ready for assembly as a kit of parts containing all the required components. The complete kit includes: all printed parts; all hardware, including threaded and smooth rods, screws, nuts, washers, belts and bearings; pre-soldered and programmed electronics; MicroSD card and adapter; heated PCB build surface; motors; nozzle assembly and extruder drive mechanism; 100m of 1.75mm-diameter white PLA filament material (weighing approximately 300g); a 100-240V worldwide input power supply (plugs available for EU, UK, US andAustralia); plus open-source software to run the machine including firmware for the electronics.
"The availability of the second generation Ormerod 3D printing kit and latest in a line of RepRapPro 3D printers demonstrates the significant success of its open source self-replicating concept," saidMark Cundle, Head of Technical Marketing at RS Components. "Using this exciting and low-cost 3D printing technology, in conjunction with the free and intuitive DesignSpark Mechanical 3D design software and the library of 3D component models from RS, means that 3D design and rapid prototyping is becoming increasingly available to a much wider universe of designers and mechanical and electronics engineers. This can enable significant savings in product development cycles and mean much faster time-to-market."
Like the first Ormerod, the Ormerod 2 uses the FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) process, which can build 3D objects in a range of plastics and also in a variety of colours. The process enables the creation of almost any shape that can be modelled on a computer, including some that cannot be produced by traditional manufacturing techniques. 3D printing is fast becoming an essential part of the electronic and mechanical design process. Increasing numbers of companies are beginning to see the benefits of using this technology to create quick-turn-around prototypes and save months in the design cycle. Barriers to adoption in the past have been the cost of hardware and a lack of easy-to-use design software for non-CAD specialists. However, when used in conjunction with the free DesignSpark Mechanical 3D modelling software <http://www.rs-online.com/designspark/electronics/eng/page/mechanical>, the Ormerod 2 3D printing kit will enable design engineers around the world to develop sophisticated concepts and products very quickly and inexpensively.
The RepRapPro Ormerod 2 is now in stock at RS Components, priced at SGD 983.36, as a kit of parts containing all the components required for full assembly.
