Sony Extends 4K Ultra HD Home Entertainment Experience With Enriched 4K Content Options And 2014 TV Line-Up
Sony Delivers Innovative Design, Superior Picture Quality and Incredible Sound While Driving the 4K Ultra HD Content Evolution
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CES Booth #14200 -- Sony Electronics today took another step forward in the evolution of 4K Ultra HD home entertainment with the addition of critical content options and a range of new 4K Ultra HD TVs for every viewer. To complement the expanding library of its Video Unlimited 4K download service, Sony's 2014 4K Ultra HD TV line-up is optimized to support new codecs and a variety of forthcoming 4K video services from Netflix, and 4K photo services such as 500px and PlayMemories. Sony is showcasing all of the latest advancements in 4K home entertainment at CES 2014 this week.
"It may be cliche to say content is King, but when talking about 4K Ultra HD TV, it reigns over consumer decision-making," said Mike Lucas, senior vice president of Sony Electronics' Home Entertainment & Sound Division. "Sony is a company of firsts and we continue to lead the way with 4K from lens to living room. Couple our key industry partnerships with our group-wide collaboration and innovative technologies, and consumers will see Sony continues to lead, advance and enrich the 4K entertainment experience."
The World of 4K Content
Sony is engaged in various initiatives, some together with partners, in order to offer a variety of options and truly enhance the 4k entertainment experience in the home. The expanding 4K content options include:
Video Unlimited 4K Download Service: Since launching the world's first Video Unlimited 4K download service in September 2013, Sony continues to grow the library of feature films, independent productions and television episodes available for rent or download to consumers with a Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player and Sony 4K Ultra HD TV. Over 140 feature films and TV shows are now available through the service, all prepared with the ultimate picture and surround sound quality in mind, carefully optimized for the best viewing experience. Available now on the service is the hit TV show Breaking Bad, as well as movies including Elysium, After Earth, This Is the End, and many more. And in 2014, additional new release titles will be introduced to the service, including the acclaimed hits Captain Phillips and American Hustle (currently in theaters). In addition, select purchased titles include an UltraViolet(TM) digital version of the movie or TV show, enabling consumers to further enjoy their content on the go (in high definition or standard definition).
Collaboration with Netflix: Sony's 2014 4K Ultra HD TVs have been optimized to support 4K Ultra HD content streaming from Netflix, which is expected to launch on compatible televisions in the first half of this year. By incorporating a decoder compatible with the latest HEVC video compression format, Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs are capable of displaying 4K streaming video at 60 frames per second (60p) from Internet streams and other sources without the need for additional devices.
Support for 4K Content Creation: Personal 4K content from Sony's growing 4K Handycam® camcorder line-up and digital still cameras can also be displayed and enjoyed on 4K TVs. The newly-announced models of 4K Ultra HD TVs will also offer access to 500px, the premier photo community, enabling users to discover high-quality 4K photos from around the world through their TV. Sony's cloud-based PlayMemories online photo and video service also continues to evolve and can be used to display 4K photos on 4K TVs. Photos and videos uploaded from mobile phones, tablets, and PCs can easily be organized and accessible in the highest quality. Sony also continues to provide technical support for several notable 4K productions, from Hollywood features and TV shows, to Netflix originals and sports. This summer, Sony will provide technical support to enable 4K production of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final.

Epson Enters Wrist Wearable Activity Monitor Category with Continuous Heart Rate Recording and Zone Training Features
Industry-Leading, Powerful and Sleek Fitness and Health Monitoring Wearable Devices to Launch in North America by Summer 2014
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- 2014 International CES, LVCC South Hall Meeting Room S214 -- Epson America today announced its Pulsense((TM)) line of watches and wristbands for fitness, health and wellness monitoring. Epson(®) Pulsense is an innovative bio sensing wrist wearable device that can monitor and store your heart rate, activity level, calorie burn and sleep patterns. Pulsense is an ideal daily wear activity and heart health tracking device for consumers with a wide range of activity goals from trying to stay fit to losing weight to training for a marathon.
"The Pulsense product line will be Epson's first smart wrist wearable devices to leverage the company's patented Bio sensing technology," says Anna Jen, director, New Ventures/New Products for Epson America. "These products showcase Seiko Epson's heritage in wrist watch technology and consumer electronics manufacturing. Pulsense has set the performance and features benchmark for the next generation of activity monitors. With additional core technologies in Swing and Location sensing, consumers can expect to see more smart products coming from Epson addressing the needs of the health, fitness and sports segments of the wearables market."
Pulsense detects continuous heart rate directly from the wrist (without a chest strap) and features a breakthrough Epson proprietary heart-rate sensing module that is both accurate and compact. The sensor measures the amount of light reflected from red blood cells and records a single heart beat when the amount of light reflected changes due to a drop in red blood cell count as the blood vessel contracts. Ambient light interference is minimized and heart rate detection accuracy is improved using a microns thick blocking filter and multi-layer reflective coating that is achieved through Epson's precision manufacturing know-how.
Combining Epson's proprietary sensor and patented algorithms with an accelerometer enables Pulsense to take wrist worn activity monitors to the next feature and performance level. For example, by utilizing real-time heart-rate data, Pulsense is able to determine calories burned based on personal biometrics in addition to activity levels, gender, age and weight. Additionally, with built-in memory, Pulsense can store up to 480 hours of heart-rate data before having to transfer data to a smart phone app or computer. Last but not least, Epson's 3-in-1 proprietary chip offers fast data processing, space-saving footprint, and efficient power usage for improved battery life performance.
"It's an amazing amount of technology packed in one compact wrist wearable device," Jen continues. "And to track progress over time, the data you capture and store using Pulsense can be transferred to an online health and/or fitness service using an iOS(®) or Android((TM)) mobile app or data uploader software on your computer."
As part of Epson's newly introduced portfolio of open-source wearable tech devices, Pulsense offers a developers program which has already attracted third-party mobile app developers such as Digifit(®) and Custom Fit 4 You.
Pulsense will be available in two different designs. The lightweight and stylish Pulsense PS-100 band utilizes a simplified LED display that can be wirelessly connected to a smartphone to read and transfer the stored biometric data. The Pulsense PS-500 watch features a LCD display for real-time viewing of heart rate, steps walked, calorie burn and date/time. Furthermore, both devices feature LED indicators for heart-rate based zone training making Pulsense an ideal wrist companion for those looking to focus on fat burn or aerobic zone exercise.
The Pulsense PS-100 band and PS-500 watch will be shipping summer 2014 with a MSRP of $129.00 and $199.00, respectively through a wide range of retailers and online resellers. Interested buyers can follow the development progress, provide feedback and pre-order limited quantities of the Pulsense products at http://www.prelaunch.com/pulsense-band and http://www.prelaunch.com/pulsense-watch. MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonin Medical, Inc., the inventor of finger pulse oximetry and a leader in noninvasive medical monitoring, today announced it will launch and demonstrate its NoninConnect(TM) direct-to-consumer Bluetooth(®) Smart wireless finger pulse oximeter* at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Jan. 7-10, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall 2, Booth #25319.
The NoninConnect pulse oximeter features Bluetooth(®) Smart (low energy) wireless technology, a unique user-facing display, and a proprietary algorithm that tells users if their finger is placed properly in the device for correct readings. NoninConnect is designed for use by athletes, pilots and Quantified-Self trackers who want to measure their arterial blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate. Users can easily store and share their readings by downloading a Nonin or future third-party pulse oximetry software application onto their Bluetooth-Smart-ready iOS, Android or Windows mobile device.
"The NoninConnect offers significant advantages over other consumer pulse oximeters for personal health management," said Mark VanderWerf, Vice President eHealth, for Nonin Medical.
"The NoninConnect is made with the same Nonin medical-grade pulse oximetry technology that we build into our professional pulse oximeters for patients, clinicians and the military. So consumers benefit from the same clinically proven accuracy - but without needing a doctor's prescription," VanderWerf said.
"In addition, the NoninConnect is made in America and built to rugged durability standards. And because the NoninConnect uses the new Bluetooth Smart low-energy wireless technology, users don't have to sideline their phone with a cumbersome cable just to transfer their data. They also don't need to drain their phone battery just to power their pulse oximeter," he said.
PRODUCT ADVANTAGES INCLUDE:
-- Easy-to-read, large, clear user-facing display
-- Long battery life - allows for up to 2,200 spot checks on two AAA
batteries

Cold Snap Makes HomeSitter Cellular A Hot Product at CES ShowStoppers Event
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The bitter cold weather blanketing the East Coast and Midwest is just perfect for the HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System! This hot new product calls, texts and emails property owners when temperatures get too cold inside a remote home, vacation property or business.
Since 1987, Emerson Control Products has been protecting homes with their land line based FreezeAlarm, WaterAlarm and HomeSitter products. At the CES ShowStoppers Media Reception, Emerson Control Products will be introducing the HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System with text, email and phone call notifications that will be available for sale in Spring, 2014.
The HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System combines the HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring Device and Wireless Sensors with a powerful, yet easy to use cloud based application that allows a homeowner to monitor temperature, humidity, power status and presence of water throughout their home or business. If problems do occur with temperature or humidity extremes, the power goes out or if a water leak is detected, the device sends an alert to the cloud and the homeowner is immediately notified by text, email or phone call.
Emerson Control Products has collaborated with one of the largest wireless provider to deliver an affordable home monitoring system with no long term contract, activation fees or complex setup. The HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System comes with three months of access to monitor and receive alert notifications about their home via a computer, tablet or smart phone web application. Additional months of service can be purchased for a low monthly fee.
Wireless sensor pucks are called "SPucks" because of their round, 2" diameter design. The HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System can monitor up to sixteen wireless SPucks to monitor for water leaks and for temperature monitoring in other areas of a property. SPucks have a long life battery that will last up to five years.
The technology behind the HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System is impressive without being complex. Simply register the HomeSitter on-line and set up an account. Next, plug in the HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring device to a power outlet. The HomeSitter automatically connects to the wireless cellular network and starts communicating to the cloud application. A lithium, rechargeable battery keeps the product working even if the power is out and it notifies you when power is restored.
The HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System will be available for sale this spring. To learn more about the HomeSitter Cellular Home Monitoring System, go to http://www.protectedhome.com and click on Cellular Phone Based Monitoring Systems.
Control Products is a business unit of Emerson Electric Corporation of St. Louis, MO. Since 1987, Emerson Control Products has been manufacturing and distributing FreezeAlarms, WaterAlarms and HomeSitters through electronics and hardware stores and on-line retailers.
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- "We aren't trying to re-invent the wheel; just everything necessary to make them turn," said Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. Inc., at the opening of CES, the world's largest trade show. "Fuel cell electric vehicles will be in our future sooner than many people believe, and in much greater numbers than anyone expected."
Two vehicles shared the stage at the Toyota press conference: The FCV concept, showing what the four-door mid-size sedan will look like in Radiant Blue; and the camouflage-taped engineering prototype used for extensive and extreme on-road testing in North America for more than a year. The prototype has consistently delivered a driving range of about 300 miles, zero-to-sixty acceleration of about 10 seconds, with no emissions, other than water vapor. Refueling of its hydrogen tanks takes three to five minutes.
"Hydrogen works beautifully with oxygen to create water and electricity and nothing more," said Carter. "For years, the use of hydrogen gas to power an electric vehicle has been seen by many smart people as a foolish quest. Yes, there are significant challenges. The first is building the vehicle at a reasonable price for many people. The second is doing what WE can to help kick-start the construction of convenient hydrogen refueling infrastructure. We're doing a good job with both and we will launch in 2015."
For the last 20 years, Toyota's investment in fuel cell R&D has been massive. Since 2002, Toyota has been testing and developing a series of prototypes in North America. In those 11 years - and more than a million miles - it has dramatically reduced the cost of building a fuel cell powertrain. In fact, Toyota estimates a 95-percent cost reduction in the powertrain and fuel tanks of the vehicle it will launch in 2015, compared to what it cost to build the original prototype in 2002.
The FCV represents a major engineering achievement, where the size and weight of its powertrain system was significantly reduced while maintaining an impressive total power output of more than 100kW. A fully-fueled vehicle will be capable of supplying enough energy to power a house for a week in an emergency. Engineers are currently looking to develop an external power supply device that could be used in this manner.
"There's no doubt, that the success of this technology will depend less on the genius of the car, than on the ownership experience," said Carter. "Cost is one thing, but convenience is another."
Focusing on California, where the vehicle will be launched initially, Toyota has partnered with the University of California Irvine's Advanced Power and Energy Program (APEP) to help map out potential locations for new hydrogen fueling stations.
The APEP spatial model considers a variety of data including R.L. Polk ownership of hybrid and electric vehicles, traffic patterns, population density, and so on. The model is based on the assumption that owners want to reach a refueling station within 6-minutes.
What the model produced was an initial cluster map that requires only 68 station sites in the San Francisco Bay area and Silicon Valley, as well as Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties. If implemented, the mapped system could handle a fuel cell population conservatively estimated by APEP at about 10,000 vehicles.
Already, California has approved more than $200 million in funding to build about 20 new stations by 2015, a total of 40 by 2016, and as many as 100 by 2024. To help guide the construction of new stations, the APEP model is being used by:
-- the California Energy Commission,
-- the Governor's Zero Emission Vehicle Initiative,
-- the California Air Resources Board,
-- the U.S. Department of Energy
-- and the California Fuel Cell Partnership.
"Stay tuned," added Carter, "because this infrastructure thing is going to happen."
While specific sales volumes will be announced closer to launch, Carter said that Toyota has revised initial market plans and requested additional vehicles. More information will be announced in the weeks and months ahead, including U.S. sales volume targets, the name of the vehicle and comprehensive specifications and performance data. PSA Peugeot Citroen selects Technicolor's Qeo communication framework for developing its innovative car applications
Working closely with partner Magneti Marelli, PSA Peugeot Citroen sees Qeo as an optimal solution for delivering value-added services for the connected car
PARIS and LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Technicolor (Euronext Paris: TCH) today announced that PSA Peugeot Citroen has become the first automotive partner of Qeo, selecting the revolutionary communications framework to deliver connected car services. The French carmaker has chosen its Citroen C4 Picasso to be the first Qeo-enabled car. The software will enhance interaction between the consumer's car and personal devices that enter and leave the home (smartphone, tablet), or with devices staying within the home (such as set top box or TV). Hi-tech auto systems and components designer Magneti Marelli will deliver the software for the PSA entertainment and navigation platform.
Qeo, when integrated with Magneti Marelli software, bridges connectivity between car and home providing simple, secure and seamless communication between applications and devices. Its peer-to-peer, real-time and very lightweight characteristics allow for rapid development of highly innovative services by interconnecting devices, platforms and applications of all kinds.
The Qeo-enabled applications provide real-time updates about the distance between the car and the home, thus enabling home devices, such as HVAC or home entertainment systems, to react accordingly. For example, a driver can have the audio or a televised football game streamed to the car if he or she won't arrive home until after the match has begun.
At the 2014 International CES, Technicolor will demonstrate seamless communication between a driver's car, a second person's smart phone and a third's television. A father in his car invites his son, in another location, to join him for a visit to grandma. With the Qeo-enabled connectivity, the son's "yes" results in re-routing the vehicle and determining a new time of arrival to see grandma, who has been alerted to the upcoming visit as well as when her guests will arrive.
Michel Rahier, President for Technicolor's Connected Home Division, said: "Working with PSA Peugeot Citroen on this project affords Technicolor a world-class partner for demonstrating how our game-changing technology delivers value-added services for drivers. Qeo's entry into the automotive world will further enable PSA to separate itself from the competition by offering innovative car applications to its customers."
"We have selected Qeo because of its advanced technology and the ease of implementation into our in-car ecosystem," said Jean Marc Finot, Vice president of Research and Innovation for PSA Peugeot Citroen. "We are currently working on concrete commercial offers of enhanced features embedding Qeo, and we are eager to provide personal devices and home automation applications for existing and future PSA Peugeot Citroen models."
The Qeo solution for the Citroen C4 Picasso, which is available only in Europe at this time, will initially operate from a smart USB stick, developed by Inrete, and plugged into a dashboard port. Eventually, it will be fully integrated into the vehicle's communication and GPS system.
Roberto Zompi, Advanced Engineering Manager at Magneti Marelli Infotainment and Telematics said: "With our solutions we are making the Connected Car vision a reality. Qeo fits perfectly into our strategy since it's enabling additional applications and services that improve the end user experience without adding complexity."
With this agreement, PSA joins the large ecosystem of partners who already selected Qeo, including IBM, Seagate, ST Microelectronics, Kudelski Group, Avanquest, Portugal Telecom, Telecom Italia, Shaspa, Intamac, and Inrete.

Able Planet was founded on state-of-the-art hearing technologies that remove barriers to active lifestyles for people with varying levels of hearing abilities. Scheiner has had a long-term relationship with both DTS and Aupeo's parent, Panasonic, to deliver the highest quality multi-channel audio recordings and entertainment systems to consumers and automakers alike.
"Providing consumers and automakers with a unique experience is very important to us," said David Taylor, CTO and Managing Director of Aupeo. "The technology combination of our platform, which is designed to provide personalized audio content in multiple formats to consumers, and DTS' codecs to deliver multichannel decoding for in-vehicle use or two-channel decoding for headphone use is very appealing to consumers that want to take full advantage of their car audio systems but also want extend this listening experience to mobile consumer devices. We are pleased to be working with DTS and content providers to launch this service later in the year."Â
"We realize that for many consumers, music is mostly consumed on mobile devices and in the car; at DTS, we want to make sure that regardless of how or where consumers choose to listen to their music, they hear it how it was meant to be heard," said Keith Burnett, vice president, product management, home AV and automotive. "We are excited to be working with Aupeo, and legendary producer, Elliot Scheiner, to bring the same immersive experience heard in the music studio to consumers streaming to their cars' premium sound systems, and over headphones to listeners streaming to their DTS Headphone:X enabled mobile devices."
"It is refreshing to work with two partners that share my passion for audio quality and the surround format," said Elliot Scheiner. "Together we are creating a new service that is truly unique."
This new service will be demonstrated at the 2014 International CES within the Panasonic Booth, #9806, Central Hall.

The F1.2 Ultra High Speed Portrait & Medium Telephoto Single Focal Length Lens
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic is proud to introduce the new LEICA DG NOCTICRON 42.5mm / F1.2 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (H-NS043) interchangeable lens for the LUMIX G based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard. (35 mm camera equivalent: 85 mm). This incredible lens not only has a maximum aperture of F1.2, but it also incorporates optical image stabilization (POWER O.I.S.) along with full time Auto Focus. Certified by the world-renowned LEICA, exceptional high image quality is guaranteed as well as its sophisticated metal design. The name "NOCTICRON" was newly defined by Leica Camera AG for this lens that achieves a remarkably fast F1.2 aperture among Micro Four Thirds digital interchangeable lenses.
The new lens system is comprised of 14 elements in 11 groups and uses two aspherical lenses, one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) lens. The aspherical lenses suppress spherical aberration and distortion. The ED lens enables sharp, high contrast description without color bleeding to the corners while the UHR lens enables high optical performance that renders an image with uniformed descriptiveness from center to edges as well as downsizing of the lens unit.
The popular 42.5 mm medium-telephoto focal distance (Equivalent to 85 mm on a 35 mm camera) is perfectly suited for portraits with rich stereoscopic effect. Together with the high-speed aperture, users can utilize the beautiful soft focus for more impressive, creative shots. Nine blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. It also captures landscape with an extremely natural perspective. In addition, the aperture ring on the lens barrel allows direct, intuitive control over aperture settings.
Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology has been adopted to the NOCTICRON 42.5mm / F1.2 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. Reflection is dramatically minimized at entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) by applying the extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in a super clear image with dramatic reduction of ghost and flare.
Due to the shallow depth of field which is unique to the large aperture lens, even a slight handshake can potentially cause images to be out-of-focus. However, the POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) which is integrated in the LEICA DG NOCTICRON 42.5mm effectively compensates for not only small, fast movement but also large, slow movement, making it easy to capture super clear shots even when shooting in low-lit situations such as in night time or indoors.
It incorporates superior inner focus system, which enables excellent resolution and contrast from close-up to infinity. The inclusion of newly developed stepping motor makes the focusing action smooth and silent for use in both still and video recording. Notably the performance of Auto Focus is far superior to the phase-difference AF when a fast lens with smaller F value is used. When mounted on LUMIX G cameras, users can take advantage of the high-speed, high-precision Contrast AF system.
The sophisticated metal design of LEICA DG NOCTICRON 42.5mm / F1.2 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S., including the hood, deserves to bear the prestigious LEICA name. A highly reliable metal mount is durable enough for repeated mounting of the lens.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic unveiled today at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Life+ Screen -- a new category of television designed to take consumers beyond Smart TV to a new level of personalization and interaction. Debuting this spring in 4K Ultra HD and 1080p models, many of Panasonic's 2014 line of VIERA Life+Screens are available now for pre-order at http://www.shop.panasonic.com.
Building on the success of Panasonic's 'My Home Screen' personalization features introduced last year, Panasonic Life+ Screens completely overhaul the user interface and implement dramatic enhancements regarding learning the content preferences of individual users, breaking different content out of its silos and making navigation far easier and more intuitive.
"There are so many things you can do with your TV these days...from watching TV shows and films, connecting with family and friends via social media, accessing video on demand and user-generated content via the cloud, gaming, and so much more," said Julie Bauer, President, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. "Technology has brought us access to a seemingly endless list of content options directly through your TV and it is getting harder to find what to watch. So we decided it was time to redefine what a 21(st)-century TV should be by taking into account how people live their lives today, and how that will change in the future. The result is our new 2014 Panasonic VIERA Life+Screens."
Quicker and Easier Access to What You Want to Watch
Panasonic's Life+ Screens get to know the preferences of individual users (or the family as a whole) and uses that knowledge to have your favorite content waiting for you as soon as you switch them on. Rather than relying solely on cumulative viewing patterns to generate recommendations, Panasonic's new Life+Screens are able to recognize each user individually and build up a personalized profile of their favorite content thanks to the My Button on the remote control*. Pressing the My Button alerts the Life+Screen that you like the kind of content you are currently viewing, and uses the program metadata together with advanced algorithms to present more appropriate recommendations.
A Seamless User Interface Built Around You
Panasonic has completely re-imagined how the graphic user interface for next generation home displays should be by introducing My Stream, an individualized channel of content seamlessly personalized just for you, including content from different sources. This means that recommended films and shows from cable, terrestrial broadcast and VOD, are all presented within the same interface allowing users to simply view the content they want to see without having to worry about the source. Recorded content, home movies, family photos, web pages, and online videos are also seamlessly included in the My Stream interface.

Searching for content is as simple as telling the TV what you are looking for - the Life+Screen Voice Assistant functionality removes the need for any complicated navigation or searching.
Auto Wake & Info Bar Notifications
In order to make Life+ Screen more than just a content viewing device, Panasonic has innovated a way for them to also become useful everyday information displays. Life+ Screen will automatically wake from standby mode when it senses somebody nearby and will display useful information graphically such as the time, date and weather - a feature called Info Bar. Furthermore, when Life+ Screens identify the nearby user via the built-in camera, they will present further information specifically personalized to that user, such as video messages, other notifications, and recommended content.
Outside The Living Room & Cloud Integration
Interaction with Life+ Screen is not limited to the living room. Working with Panasonic's cloud service, My Home Cloud, Life+ Screen forms a seamless network to share information and content with smartphones and PCs. For example, an online video link bookmarked at your work place would also be reflected on your Life+ Screen in the living room , and will display in your My Stream when you get home.
Picture Quality
Panasonic has long been recognized as a leader in picture quality. Although Life+ Screen's 'Beyond Smart' features are not limited to 4K TVs, combining Life+ Screen features with Panasonic's stunning 4K picture quality takes the TV experience to a new level. Panasonic's expansive experience in the development of award-winning Plasma HDTVs has been incorporated into the creation of the new Panasonic Life+ Screen AX800 4K Series. This is evident in the vivid reproduction of an incredibly wide color range and a superbly high contrast to express deep, robust black levels - the two key factors which garnered Panasonic Plasma HDTVs critical acclaim for best picture quality. These qualities, now combined with the high brightness of the AX800's LED panel creates a picture quality which surpasses any device, including Plasma HDTVs.
Premium Design
Life+ Screens are designed to embody elegant simplicity. Articulate combinations of simple lines create a beautiful, horizontal profile. While Life+ Screens deliver the next generation TV experience and breathtaking picture quality, the screen itself will not obstruct the viewing scenes, blending in naturally with the living space in which it is placed.
Panasonic's Life+Screen models include the AX800 Series (4K), AS680 Series (1080p), AS650 Series (1080p), AS640 Series (1080p), and AS530 Series (1080p). Panasonic Announces New Multi-Room Hi-Fi Speaker System With Qualcomm® AllPlay(TM)
The New SC-ALL8 and SC-ALL3 Wireless Speaker Systems and the SH-ALL1C Network Audio Connector Enables Music Connection Throughout Multiple Rooms in the Home
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company today announced the introduction of a new multi-room speaker system, the SC-ALL series, which incorporates AllPlay, a new smart media platform from Qualcomm that enables music to be streamed into multiple rooms from multiple sources with high fidelity sound. The new models include the SC-ALL8 and SC-ALL3 Wireless Speaker Systems and the SH-ALL1C Network Audio Connector which will be available on http://www.shop.panasonic.com later this year.
"Panasonic is committed to providing superior home audio systems and great connected products that are simple to use and stylish. The AllPlay(TM) audio system provides users with the ultimate in connectivity," said David Fisher, Product Manager, Home Entertainment, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. "Our new multi-room speaker system allows the entire family to continue to use the full functionality of their favorite streaming music apps to listen to their music in any room of the home."
The new Panasonic Multi-room Hi-Fi System with AllPlay makes it easy to setup a multi-room configuration based on an already existing home Wi-Fi network. Using an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet, music can be wirelessly transmitted throughout the house with a music subscription service or Internet radio. "Party mode" provides even more fun by allowing the same songs to be simultaneously played to several connected speakers.
Because control is possible directly from the GUI of Internet radio or a music subscription service app, AllPlay can be enjoyed with constantly updated screens and functions. Also, after listening to music from your smartphone while away from home, you can conveniently switch to other compatible speakers right from the screen when you return home without changing the App.
By using the smartphone application, Panasonic Music Streaming App, different music -- for example, songs from music subscription services, Internet radio, songs stored on a smartphone, or songs archived on a PC or NAS -- can be easily played to different speakers with the "Multi-Zone" function.
The Panasonic SC-ALL8 Wireless Speaker System is equipped with a wide range of sound-enhancing technologies. For example, LincsD-Amp(TM) 2nd generation is an improved and evolved version of the LincsD-Amp jitter correction, which applies noise shaping technology to reproduce a highly stable clock, reducing jitter to a frequency range that is below the audible limit. XBS Master(TM) amplifies low-frequency sounds to achieve robust bass. Multi Band Gain Control eliminates unnatural sounds which are generated during the process of controlling distortion and H.BASS adds harmonics to enable the reproduction of bass sounds of 80 Hz or less, which were previously difficult to reproduce with this class of speaker.
The Panasonic SC-ALL8 utilizes a five-speaker system with Nano Bamboo Double Layer for the woofer and tweeter. The light, yet rigid bamboo, with a double-layer structure, helps to produce clear, dynamic sounds throughout the mid- to high-frequency range, keeping vocals clear and transparent, so they are not buried within instrument sounds, while also reproducing low-frequency sounds, such as drum and bass, with crisp clarity. The formed Mica 4-3/4inch (12cm) Subwoofer resolves unbalanced drive unit problems that can cause distortion in subwoofer sounds.
With the simple connection of the Panasonic SH-ALL1C, an existing speaker system can be easily upgraded to a multi-room configuration. A Gold Plated Analog Audio Terminal system and Digital/Optical system enable connection to most speaker systems. Also, a High Class 192-kHz/24-bit DAC is used to suppress sound quality degradation in the wireless signal from a smartphone, so high-quality audio signals are transmitted to the speaker system.
The Panasonic Multi-room Hi-Fi System models have a simple, yet elegant design accentuated by unique oval-shaped sides on their slim, stylish bodies. With a two-way layout design, the SC-ALL8, which is wall-mountable, and the SC-ALL3 can be positioned either vertically or horizontally, enabling a user to position them almost anywhere in their home.
