VIVOBAREFOOT Reduces Returns With Virtual Shoe Fitting Application
Virtual Fitting app, Shoefitr, gives VIVOBAREFOOT customers the chance to virtually try before they buy, significantly reducing return rates
NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As many footwear companies look to improve their e-commerce experience with better product images and videos, VIVOBAREFOOT, a minimalist footwear brand, used an online fitting application called Shoefitr that allows shoppers to mimic the in-store fitting experience through their website. Since integrating Shoefitr's application at the beginning of the year, VIVOBAREFOOT has seen a 37.5% reduction in returns and a higher level of engagement from shoppers. The findings were pulled from an 8 month evaluation of the online fitting service on vivobarefoot.com.
According to VIVOBAREFOOT Global Marketing Director, Michelle Hinsvark,
"VIVOBAREFOOT is continuously looking to improve the online consumer shopping experience and one of the major reasons for returns was fit. As all shoes are designed on an anatomical last, the shoes fit different than conventional footwear. Having an application that directly compares the shoes the customer wears, to the shoes they want to purchase is not only brilliant, it's imperative to customer satisfaction."
VIVOBAREFOOT began using Shoefitr's fitting app on its retail site in February, 2012 in an effort to make trying a pair of the company's shoes easier for shoppers who had not worn them in the past or who wanted to see how new models fit. Shoppers can enter the name and size of their current shoe and see how each VIVOBAREFOOT shoe will fit. The company has seen a 37.5% reduction in its return rate when compared to the same eight month period in 2011. The application has also garnered excitement from shoppers who leave feedback like the following:
"Very dynamic visual shoe comparison. This is awesome!" - VIVOBAREFOOT Customer
"This is fantastic! I'm trying to go minimalist, don't have access to a decent shoe store, and this is really helping me figure out what to buy. Thanks!" - VIVOBAREFOOT Customer
About 28% of purchases on VIVOBAREFOOT's site come from users of the fitting application, which is about 20 times higher than other common features on retail sites like product videos.
Shoefitr is a Pittsburgh, PA based company that creates software to help online shoe shoppers figure out what size to order. The company uses a database of internal shoe measurements, acquired using 3D imaging technology, to compare the size and shape of a shoe a shopper is currently wearing, to one she wants to buy. Visit http://www.Shoefitr.com to learn more about the benefits of online fitting technology.

TI's WEBENCH® tools export power and LED lighting designs to industry-leading CAD development platforms
WEBENCH Schematic Export supports CAD platforms from Cadence, Mentor Graphics and Altium
MUNICH, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ELECTRONICA -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) today unveiled WEBENCH(®) Schematic Export, a new online tool that exports analog designs from TI's WEBENCH Design Center to industry-leading computer-aided design (CAD) development platforms from Cadence Design Systems, Inc., Mentor Graphics and Altium. For more information or to start a design, visit http://www.ti.com/webenchex-pr.
WEBENCH Schematic Export will be demonstrated in TI's booth #420 in Hall A4, at the Electronica trade show in Munich, Germany, November 13-16.
Engineers worldwide have used TI's award-winning WEBENCH tools to quickly create more than two million designs cost-free since its introduction by National Semiconductor in 1999. While the tools dramatically simplified and sped the design process, the time for engineers to export a design to their licensed CAD development platform was tedious and time-consuming. Developed by TI, and in cooperation with the makers of the CAD development platforms, WEBENCH Schematic Export now enables the engineer to instantly export these dynamically created power and LED lighting designs to a variety of platforms, such as Cadence OrCAD Capture CIS, Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and Altium formats such as Altium Designer. Watch a video at http://www.ti.com/webenchex-prv.
"Engineers know that TI's WEBENCH tools considerably reduce the time to create power and LED lighting designs," said Chris Donato, Altium Sales Director, Americas. "With the addition of WEBENCH Schematic Export, the engineer no longer needs to manually enter the design into the CAD platform, nor is there a need to worry about errors made in the process. Now, designs created with WEBENCH Schematic Export easily and expertly convert to Altium Designer in seconds."
Key features of WEBENCH Schematic Export:
-- A designer can quickly optimize and export a power supply design created
with TI's WEBENCH Power or LED Designer or a complete power supply
system created with WEBENCH Power or LED Architect via WEBENCH Schematic
Export to one of five CAD development platforms.
-- Design performance can be simulated in WEBENCH Designer and Architect
prior to export.
-- WEBENCH Schematic Export is supported with schematic symbols for more
than 30,000 components.

Altair Introduces Display Manager for Remote Visualization of Big Data
SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- At Supercomputing 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Altair (booth #3015) today unveiled Display Manager, a new portal for remote visualization of extremely large models developed from Big Data resources.
Display Manager, which will become generally available in the near future, enables users to run graphics-intensive applications on their cluster while visualizing those applications on their desktop. Because applications run directly from the data center, users can take advantage of shared, powerful, GPU-enabled hardware in the data center - and use their Web browser to view, edit, interact with and control the graphical apps remotely. As a result, the enterprise can buy fewer high-end graphics systems, and avoid purchasing a costly high-end graphics desktop for each engineer. Display Manager enables sharing of HPC-class systems housed in the datacenter (or in an HPC cluster) among all the engineers in the enterprise.
Because Display Manager shows graphical applications directly from the cluster via a browser, Big Data files remain on the cluster, with no copying required, for faster, easier, more efficient operation. This also increases data security, since proprietary data remains inside the data center at all times.
"Remote visualization is a key Big Data technology, allowing huge datasets to be manipulated from thin clients," said Bill Nitzberg, chief technology officer for PBS Works at Altair. "Display Manager leverages Altair's deep knowhow in modeling and visualization from our globally acclaimed HyperWorks suite to deliver an amazing remote visualization experience directly from the Web browser, without the need to install any apps on the desktop."
In addition, multiple users can collaborate directly from within Display Manager by simply sharing sessions. Authorized users can all view and control a single session without downloading any files. This virtual-team productivity feature can save the costs associated with expensive face-to-face meetings and eliminate the need for multiple users in different sites to download Big Data files.
Display Manager can adjust fidelity to match network bandwidth and latency, continuously providing real-time responsiveness, whether operating on a LAN or a wide-area network. Its open architecture is compatible with any of the user's existing Altair or third-party applications; no additional application investments are required and no modifications are necessary.
Display Manager can be used as a standalone technology or can be seamlessly integrated with Compute Manager in an easy-to-use fashion for enterprises with large HPC clusters.

With such a development, weather damage, such as destruction inflicted by devastating hurricanes and other natural disasters, could be significantly minimized. Supercomputing will also have a broad impact on global economic forecasting and development.
"In order to compete in an evolving global economy, companies and countries alike will need to heavily invest in supercomputing," says Dr. Bronis de Supinski, an IEEE member. "Supercomputing will be essential in meeting the increasing demands for progress."
Supercomputing is also at the heart of important research in the energy space. During the next two decades, we will see new ways of generating electricity and a greater adoption of renewable and efficient energy. It is estimated that by 2027, supercomputing will play a role in the development of limitless clean energy by enabling clean nuclear fission via thermonuclear reactors that could produce three to four times as much energy as a nuclear power plant, without generating radioactive nuclear waste.
In medicine, supercomputers are currently being used to research the potential of regenerative medicine, which is expected to permanently eliminate a number of diseases, heal the effects of aging and potentially extend humans' lives. In fact, experts anticipate that by 2025, regenerative medicine will allow body parts that are damaged from disease or aging to be replaced with new structures, including tissues and organs such as an entire heart or set of lungs.
How do we get there?
What will it take to get to the next level? George K. Thiruvathukal, an IEEE member and editor-in-chief of CiSE (Computing in Science and Engineering) Magazine, says we have the roadmap for achieving these next levels of supercomputing, but we do not have the ability to harness the processing power. Programming languages will need to evolve and new programming models are needed that can utilize exascale computational power.
Exploring other facets of computing, such as cloud computing, also hold potential for developments. Thiruvathukal says the next 10 years promise to bring a greater overlap of cloud computing and supercomputing, which could eventually yield advances in quantum computing, an idea still in the early stages that could become a reality by 2030

Wikia's Innovative New 'Lightbox' Multimedia Player and Video Page Offers Sponsors a Clean and Well Lit Environment to Reach Engaged Audiences
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Wikia, the collaborative media company that is home to some of the largest communities on the Web, today unveiled a new Lightbox multimedia player to enhance the multimedia viewing experience for the site's over 50M monthly global visitors. The Wikia Lightbox will feature nearly 100,000 videos and 14 million photos including content from premium partners AnyClip, IDG, IGN, RealGravity, and ScreenPlay, Inc., - giving users access to over 5,000hours of premium content from which to choose.
The strategic direction to curate and surface video content comes at a time when the comScore Video Metrix service recently reported that 180 million U.S. Internet users watched online video content in July for an average of 18.5 hours per viewer, creating greater engagement and opening up advertising opportunities with a wide array of influential consumers.
"The new video library and Lightbox player will amplify Wikia's naturally strong community creation and curation activities by enabling the assembly and packaging of user created and premium photo and video content in one place," said Wikia CEO, Craig Palmer. "This also gives us the opportunity to bring our users the best professional video content available on the web. Like the recent redesign of our Home Page (http://www.wikia.com) and Hubs (for example: http://www.wikia.com/entertainment), these efforts will make it even easier to showcase the passionate pursuit of knowledge through collaborative storytelling."
Through the Lightbox, Wikia users will be able to stream trailers, previews, clips and exclusive studio videos at up to 1080p HD video quality as well as browse through an entire collection of multi-media assets by page. Users can select video content from a source library (http://video.wikia.com) that aggregates video assets available for any Wikia contributor to post, and curate. Wikia's multi-media Lightbox also allows content to be shared with friends even if they are not Wikia users via email, Twitter and Facebook. In the near future Wikia users will have the ability to embed Wikia videos on their websites and blogs.
The new video capabilities will provide advertisers with unique ways of reaching a highly engaged and passionate, targeted audience that wants to interact with their brand through video advertising offerings: video pre-roll, companion ad units within the Lightbox's interstitials and a full sponsorship option - creating a unique branded video player that reinforces sponsor's look and feel.
"The Wikia Lightbox video advertising option gives sponsors a new canvas where they can tap into the influence of the Wikia community to create real brand stories in digital space," commented Wikia's Senior Vice President of Sales, Bob Huseby. "These specs help creativity flourish by making it easier for brands to take advantage of our video ad inventory while allowing advertisers to deliver in-stream interactive video ads with the confidence that users will always receive a consistent, clean and well lit viewing experience on all of our wiki's and pages."
Wikia's first comprehensive update to its in-stream video advertising standards are designed to deliver a variety of enhanced video advertising experiences. Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), a global leader providing software, IP and services used to accelerate innovation in chips and electronic systems, today announced the availability of Synopsys' HAPS®-70 Series FPGA-based prototyping systems, extending its HAPS product line to address the increasing size and complexity of system-on-chip (SoC) designs. The HAPS-70 systems provide tightly integrated prototyping software and hardware, including high-speed time-domain multiplexing (HSTDM) technology, which in combination with new HapsTrak 3 I/O connectors delivers up to 3x prototype performance improvement over traditional connector and pin multiplexing technology. The new prototyping systems take advantage of a scalable architecture and the latest generation Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA devices to support a wide range of design sizes with capacities from 12 to 144 million ASIC gates. The flexibility and matched pin connections between the Virtex-7's I/O banks and HapsTrak 3 connectors enable HAPS users to utilize I/O bandwidth where it is needed most while minimizing the number of unused pins.
"The stacked silicon interconnect technology of the Virtex-7 2000T FPGA delivers two million logic cells of capacity and 12.5 Gb/s serial transceivers, making it ideal for ASIC prototypes which require both high capacity and high-speed I/O," said Tim Erjavec, vice president of FPGA platform marketing at Xilinx. "The Synopsys HAPS-70 Series takes advantage of the Virtex-7 2000T FPGA's increased design capacity and I/O bank organization to deliver a system that eases design planning within and across multiple FPGAs while allowing the HAPS-70 to scale up to support multi-million gate ASIC SoC designs."
HAPS-70 systems are integrated with an intelligent prototyping software environment that enables faster partitioning and automates the creation and debug of prototypes for a range of designs from individual IP blocks and processor sub-systems to complete SoCs, easing the path from RTL to operational prototype. The modular architecture of the HAPS-70 systems enables engineers to use a common prototyping environment for IP and SoC software development, hardware/software integration and system validation, reducing duplication of effort across projects. New "HAPS-aware" features of Synopsys' Certify multi-FPGA prototyping software increase prototyping productivity by up to 10x with patent-pending algorithms to automate logic partitioning and live hardware queries to ease system bring-up compared to manual partitioning methods. The new prototyping systems also support HAPS Deep Trace Debug for greater debugging efficiency, providing approximately 100 times more signal storage capacity than the traditional memory storage employed by on-chip FPGA logic debuggers.
For easier system validation and software development, DesignWare Interface IP such as USB 3.0, PCI Express® and HDMI are validated on HAPS systems. With pre-validated DesignWare IP on HAPS systems and a rich selection of daughter cards for common IP protocols, designers can start software development earlier in the product development cycle and reduce IP integration effort.
"Synopsys' HAPS FPGA-based prototyping has been invaluable to Mindspeed for accelerating our hardware/software validation and improving our prototyping productivity," said Surinder Dhaliwal, executive director, VLSI Core Engineering, at Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. "As we continue to develop infrastructure product solutions, we are pleased that Synopsys has enhanced its FPGA-based prototyping family with higher performance, greater capacity and improved debug visibility targeted at larger, more complex designs like ours."
Synopsys' Universal Multi-Resource Bus (UMRBus) host connectivity option for the HAPS-70 system has been enhanced to support up to 400 MB/s bandwidth. The UMRBus provides a seamless link between HAPS-70 systems and Synopsys' Virtualizer-based virtual prototypes to create an integrated hybrid prototyping environment for early software development and hardware/software integration. The UMRBus also provides remote access, a generic C++/TCL programming interface and co-simulation with Synopsys' VCS® functional verification solution along with hierarchical block level bring-up and debug, enabling the HAPS-70 system to be incorporated into the design flow earlier.
"Increasing design size, software complexity and the earliest possible software development are key challenges for SoC prototypers," said John Koeter, vice president of marketing for IP and systems at Synopsys. "The extended capabilities of the HAPS-70 system further shorten software development and hardware/software integration by delivering industry leading FPGA-based prototyping capacity and performance with intelligent partitioning and debugging tools. By leveraging our technology leadership spanning hardware, software and IP, designers are immediately productive with validating their largest chip designs."

Flourishing Retailer Credits Fifteen Digital with Online Success
STOKE-ON-TRENT, England, November 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The work of a Stoke-on-Trent marketing agency has enabled a designer menswear retailer
to increase traffic to their website by 600%, and orders by almost 100 a day.
Before Terraces Menswear linked up with Fifteen Digital in 2009, they were receiving
approximately 500 visits a day to their website, and generating fewer than 10 online
orders.
Three years later, they have launched a new website, developed by Fifteen Digital, to
make navigation easier for the estimated 3000 daily visitors. They are now receiving more
than 100 orders a day through the site alone.
The last three years have been so successful they have opened a second shop, catering
exclusively in designer childrenswear, and employ 10 people - up seven from 2009.
Terraces Head of E-commerce Ryan Keogh said: "The website is where the majority of our
sales are coming from at the moment.
"The business has changed unbelievably in the past year, and we are now receiving
orders from all over the UK, and as far afield as Mongolia!
"Fifteen Digital have helped us a lot with the design and development of the site, and
particularly with our Google rankings.
"They are great at turning my ideas into reality."
The new website enables shoppers to browse Terraces 2500 products by product category,
rather than by brand. It has been live since the end of October.
Fifteen Digital specialises in all IT services, from supplying and installing
hardware, to designing and developing websites, to providing training and support in
social media and other types of online marketing.
They have also recently added branding and print services to their portfolio.
Dimension Data Launches Electronic Waste Removal Service
NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to meet market demand for a growing, often-overlooked issue, Dimension Data, the global ICT services and solutions provider, today announced the availability of an electronic waste (e-waste) removal service as part of its newly expanded Technology Lifecycle Management (TLM) Assessment that helps organizations better manage IT inventory. The TLM Assessment catalogues and analyzes assets on the network, and identifies end-of-life and security issues so that they can be proactively addressed.
Research indicates that the number of electronic devices at end-of-life will double from 2010 to 2025, and it's estimated that more than 60 million tons of e-waste will be at the decision point for reuse, recycle or landfill in 2013(1). While the replacement and upgrade cycle of devices is inevitable, the dilemma most organizations face is finding an environmentally friendly e-waste removal service that is available on a global scale.
"According to aggregate data compiled by Dimension Data from 294 TLM Assessments conducted at organizations of all sizes and in all industry sectors in 2011, 45 percent of the network estates assessed will be totally obsolete within five years," said Colin Curtis, Dimension Data's director of sustainability.
"Expanding our TLM Assessment to include an e-waste solution means our expert advice doesn't start at the point of disposal. We can now assess the strength of each item in a technology base, determine its point in the lifecycle, and then use best practices to dispose of elapsed devices and equipment in an ecological and regulatory-compliant manner. In addition, the organization's security and brand are not negatively impacted."
Other benefits of Dimension Data's expanded TLM assessment and e-waste solution include:
-- Thorough assessment of an organization's installed base: Cataloguing the
installed base and knowing what can be replaced and when, as well as
adopting a standard approach to the removal of redundant equipment, can
help ease the burden.
-- Single plan for removing e-waste globally: Prevents the hassle of having
to outsource and review e-waste removal services and government
regulations in each location.
-- Experienced service provider: E-waste can potentially put a company's
reputation and security at risk. Dimension Data partners with approved,
global e-waste providers who pledge their commitment to ethical e-waste
handling.
-- Simple costing: Dimension Data believes that cost is an inhibitor to
good stewardship, so there is little to zero cost for take-back in most
cases.
-- Security: Disposing of redundant equipment carries the threat of
sensitive data being accessed by external parties. Dimension Data
understands that this is a major concern for companies looking for an
e-waste solution, and offers considerable security expertise to manage
this risk.

Weight Watchers® Partners with Philips to Launch ActiveLink(TM): The Only Activity Monitor that Translates Movement to Activity PointsPlus® Values
NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Weight Watchers International, Inc. (NYSE: WTW) announced the nationwide availability of ActiveLink(TM), the first and only activity monitor and web experience that translates your movements to activity PointsPlus® values. ActiveLink is the result of a collaboration with Philips and is available exclusively to Weight Watchers members and Weight Watchers Online Subscribers.
While activity has always been a key component of the Weight Watchers approach, this engaging innovation puts the focus on fitness like never before - giving members with eTools and Online subscribers a true sense of their current activity levels and then motivating them to make increased activity a healthy habit they develop for a lifetime.
"Most of us tend to underestimate the amount of food we eat, and overestimate how much activity we get. We rarely exercise enough to burn off that cheeseburger or dessert like we planned," said Stacy Gordon, Senior Vice President, Products, Licensing & Publishing, Weight Watchers North America. "ActiveLink takes the guess work out of it by more accurately estimating our activity level, and motivates us to set that bar even higher by getting more active."
Powered by Philips technology, ActiveLink allows users to set personalized goals, seamlessly track their activity routines - from walking the dog to hitting the gym - to help them reach their goal of becoming more active over time. It aligns with Weight Watchers integrated approach to successful weight loss, which combines smarter eating, healthy habits, activity and a supportive environment.
Rave Reviews from Pilot Offering
Weight Watchers members in Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles had the chance to take ActiveLink for a trial run over the summer and it elicited rave reviews. In fact, Chicago resident and Weight Watchers Ambassador Jennifer Hudson is one of its biggest fans.
"I wore my ActiveLink monitor during a recent performance and couldn't believe how many activity PointsPlus values I earned just by dancing and singing! ActiveLink has made me look at activity in a whole new way," said Hudson. "I always track what I eat, but now seeing the results of also tracking my activity each day is challenging me to set higher goals. Plus, it's helping me earn activity PointsPlus values, which for me means more chocolate!"
ActiveLink Technology
The ActiveLink monitor is a three-way accelerometer that tracks body motion and provides a measure of acceleration. When combined with one's age, gender, height, and weight, it calculates how many activity PointsPlus® values a person earns while wearing it. ActiveLink subscribers can then plug the ActiveLink monitor into their computer to upload the information onto their dashboard and receive customized challenges that will gradually increase over time plus activity tips to keep them moving and motivated.
"At Philips, our goal is to improve people's lives through meaningful innovation," said Gopi Koteeswaran, General Manager at Philips. "Working together on ActiveLink, Weight Watchers and Philips are delivering an innovative behavioral change experience that seamlessly integrates activity into the Weight Watchers approach. By translating movement into activity PointsPlus values - a language that Weight Watchers members speak and a lifestyle they live every day - we're helping people to take control of a healthy lifestyle in a fun and engaging way."
The ActiveLink monitor is available exclusively to Weight Watchers members with eTools and Weight Watchers Online subscribers, and can be purchased at participating Weight Watchers locations or via the eCommerce store at http://www.weightwatchers.com, and requires an additional monthly ActiveLink subscription. To learn more about ActiveLink, go to http://www.weightwatchers.com.
Technology is playing an increasingly important role in weight management and Weight Watchers continues to innovate by adding ActiveLink to its technology portfolio, which includes a comprehensive suite of digital and mobile tools to track your food, weight, and activity. These tools allow Weight Watchers Online subscribers and members who attend meetings and subscribe to eTools to access a suite of tools and helpful information whether they're at home or on the go. In addition, the barcode scanner app instantly reveals the PointsPlus value of foods while shopping supermarket aisles or choosing items from the cupboard or refrigerator.
