BoxTone Launches First Automated Mobile Device Policy and Compliance Management Engine
Enhanced Enterprise Mobility Management Platform Brings Enterprise-Grade Mobility Dashboard, Control and Governance to Address CIO and CISO Requirements
COLUMBIA, Md., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- BoxTone, the leader in Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), today announced a significant advancement to its EMM platform, delivering the first fully automated policy and compliance management engine with a comprehensive real-time mobile security dashboard, analytics, alerting, audit reporting and expanded integration with enterprise IT systems. With this enhanced offering, enterprises can now extend their existing investments in people, processes and infrastructure to fully secure, manage and govern mobility as they do other critical enterprise IT systems.
Built from more than six years in enterprise mobility and rich experience in enterprise-grade IT Service Management (ITSM), the expanded BoxTone EMM platform takes an ITSM-based approach to mobile security, governance, risk and compliance. By combining direct integration with existing policy and security systems - such as Microsoft Active Directory - with automated policy, change and compliance management, BoxTone empowers enterprise CIOs and CISOs to substantially reduce risks and costs associated with human errors and gaps in coverage.
"Most MDM technologies to date have adopted a manual, proprietary approach solely focused on initial device provisioning," said Brian Reed, Vice President of Products, BoxTone. "But this 'set it and forget it' old world approach is doomed to failure as deployments become more dynamic and move from the hundreds to thousands of mobile devices and applications across the distributed enterprise. As the mobile deployment grows, risks grow exponentially without automation and direct integration with existing IT systems, leaving the enterprise exposed to security failures, regulatory breaches, service degradation and financial loss. With this major advance in our EMM platform, BoxTone has aligned enterprise mobility management with core IT services to help organizations accelerate and sustain mobility initiatives-securely, reliably and at the lowest risk and cost."
BoxTone Extends the Enterprise
According to the Aberdeen study, "Enterprise Mobility Management is Not a Peripheral - It is Core IT," IT policies, procedures and tools used to enable employee mobility must become an integral part of business so that, regardless of ownership (i.e. employee vs. corporate), mobile devices become governed and managed like all other IT assets. CIOs, CISOs and enterprise IT organizations realize this, and understand truly successful and secure mobility requires automated security and management of all mobile devices/services linked to existing systems; real-time visibility of security posture and a fully auditable mobile analytics archive; integrated reporting for audit and proof of controls; and enterprise-grade hardened, secure and reliable EMM software.
BoxTone's EMM platform now delivers full enterprise-grade security, management and governance based on key enhancements made to its automated Mobile Device Management (MDM) Engine, which include:
-- BoxTone Security Management Dashboard: Provides real-time visibility
into the global mobile security posture and compliance status - from
across the enterprise down to the individual device - with trending
information and acute details on security gaps or non-compliance.
-- BoxTone Policy Management: Automatically maps and extends existing
enterprise policy typically defined and managed in Active Directory,
then automatically synchronizes policy adds, changes and removes to all
devices with no manual intervention.
-- BoxTone Configuration Management: Automatically adjusts device
configurations based on changes to mobile and enterprise policies with
no manual intervention.
-- BoxTone Compliance Management: Continuously monitors the end-to-end
security status of all enterprise devices, applications, mobile
services, dependent infrastructure and existing security and policy
systems, and automatically detects, remediates and logs violations with
no manual intervention.
-- BoxTone Mobile Analytics: Includes comprehensive data warehouse and
Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) reporting to deliver a holistic
approach with full audit capabilities and proof of controls.
-- BoxTone Platform Integration: The expanded EMM platform integrates with
existing security and policy management systems to ensure consistent
policy enforcement across the enterprise; eliminates the typical risks
associated with traditional MDM tools that create their own separate,
gap-riddled policy stove-pipes.
Reed continued, "Enterprise mobility cannot be done in isolation and it cannot be seen as a simple feature/function MDM checklist. The enterprise cannot afford the systemic cost, compliance and risk exposure. To truly manage mobility, organizations must look to solutions that have the right security architecture that bring together full security and compliance controls, automation, and seamless integration with core IT systems and infrastructure."
BoxTone is hosting the webinar "How CIOs & CISOs Can Now Secure and Govern Mobile Devices Like All Other Critical IT Systems" on Wednesday, October 5 at 11 a.m. EDT, to demonstrate how Enterprise Mobility Management - built to CIO and CISO specifications - will enable IT mobility staffs to:
-- Leverage IT policies contained in Active Directory and extend them to
mobile
-- Gain real-time visibility into the global mobile security and compliance
status
-- Automatically detect, remediate and log policy violations
-- Establish Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) reporting that delivers
a holistic approach with full audit capabilities and proof of controls
-- Drive down the mobility risks and costs associated with human errors and
gaps in coverage

PwC Debuts Cyber Security Video Series on Fraud Forum
Panel discussion video series addresses evolving cyber forensic landscape
NEW YORK, Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PwC's Fraud Forum has launched a Cyber Security Video series featuring overviews and insight on the cybercrime landscape and in-depth discussions of what organizations can do to protect themselves from compromise. The three videos: "Are you prepared for today's cyber threats?," "Cyber attacks: where will they strike next?" and "Cyber crisis management" are the first in the series of video panels of law, cyber forensics and crisis communication professionals providing their perspective on key issues in the cyber security community.
"Are you prepared for today's cyber threats?" is hosted by PwC's Ed Gibson, director in the Forensic Technology Services Division and features panellists Kim Peretti and Shane Sims, directors in PwC's Forensic Technology Solutions Practice. The discussion focuses on evolving targeted threats, particularly Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs).
"Over the last few years, cyber threat groups are much more advanced and much more targeted in their approach. They are using custom techniques and custom software that avoid detection by traditional signature based security solutions. There needs to be a philosophical shift from prevention-centric to earlier detection," said Mr. Sims. "Organizations should assume they are in a state of compromise all the time, every day--take advantage of every security event to learn from security threat intelligence."
"Companies need to be able to respond to with a broader array of services than just a technical fix for a technical problem," said Ms. Peretti.
The video "Cyber attacks--where will they strike next?" features panelists David Nardoni and Tomas Castrejon, directors at PwC, and looks at evolving methods of cyber attacks and their impact on company infrastructures. Mr. Nardoni identifies three emerging areas of cyber attacks through mobile devices, social networks and through targeted attacks. Mr. Castrejon adds advice for companies and what they need to do to take proactive measures to ensure that all intellectual property is secured. The trend of spearphishing is also addressed.
"What makes spearphishing so effective even today is that it is so sophisticated that it is very difficult for most people including security practitioners to discern between a forged email versus a legitimate email. That makes it very difficult to detect," said Mr. Castrejon.
Ms. Peretti hosts panelists Jason Maloni, Senior Vice President with Levick Strategic Communications and Jim Harvey, partner at Alston and Bird in the "Cyber crisis management" video. This segment looks at the cyber threat landscape and how companies can best respond in the event of a security crisis.
"There is a distinction between crisis management and crisis communications--there is a compliance requirement, but companies need to articulate what happened as well as what needs to happen to be sure it doesn't happen again," says Mr. Maloni.

NETGEAR Releases Industry's First VDSL UTM Firewall
Integrates modular broadband and WiFi connectivity with virtually unlimited log and quarantine capability
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR), a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, today introduced the NETGEAR ProSecure® UTM9S - the industry's first Unified Threat Management (UTM) gateway with both VDSL and WiFi capability. Additionally, the UTM9S integrates with NETGEAR ReadyNAS® network-attached storage systems, providing virtually unlimited activity log and quarantine capacity for forensic, regulatory and legal requirements.
The UTM9S is the latest addition to NETGEAR's ProSecure unified threat management product line, and delivers comprehensive Internet security without traditional vendor complexity and cost. The ProSecure UTM9S is the first UTM firewall on the market to provide high-speed Internet access through an on-board VDSL modem (VDSL is the latest standard for high-speed DSL and is backward-compatible with today's ADSL networks). At the same time, the UTM9S offers a wireless-N access point module and is a best-of-breed UTM firewall gateway. Small businesses and branch offices may now access modern high-speed Internet connections, provide a wireless network and protect against Internet threats - all from one simple device.
Security devices traditionally include a very small amount of storage for log and threat quarantine data. The ProSecure UTM9S can be set to automatically send activity logs and complete quarantined threats to NETGEAR ReadyNAS storage systems, ensuring nearly limitless storage capacity for forensic analysis.
"Advanced targeted threats are going after customer information at businesses large and small," said John Pescatore, Vice President for network security at Gartner Inc. "Just spending more to throw more security products at this problem is rarely the best solution. Businesses need to choose network security platforms that are effective against advanced attacks while offering price points and management capabilities that match constrained procurement and staffing budgets."
Mike Chandler, the CEO of ASICSoft, an integrated circuit engineering services firm in San Jose, California, said: "The UTM9S does a fantastic job securing us from social media malware and scareware phishing scams, while keeping our workforce focused and productive. And the fact that the UTM9S archives quarantined threats and traffic logs in a virtually limitless manner on an external NAS is something we prize for legal reasons. NETGEAR has packaged all this functionality, along with wireless and broadband capability, into a condensed form factor with one GUI to manage - the essence of simplicity."
"The ProSecure UTM9S brings our commitment to 'smart IT, not big IT' to the next level," said Jason Leung, Senior Product Marketing Manager at NETGEAR. "NETGEAR uniquely leverages ReadyNAS storage systems to provide simple, seamless archival for quarantined email threats and log information. This cross-product technology integration is an example of NETGEAR delivering smart IT solutions - not just products - to our customers."
Pricing and Availability
The NETGEAR ProSecure UTM9S is available now worldwide with prices starting at $535 in the United States, including one year of web and email protection subscription services, 24/7 technical support and a lifetime warranty.
More information
The NETGEAR ProSecure UTM series uses patented Stream Scanning Technology, which analyzes data streams as they enter the network against a full malware signature library - offering maximum protection with minimum latency. NETGEAR ProSecure UTM appliances have won top ratings in reviews from SC Magazine, PC Pro and IT Pro, and significantly outperformed UTMs from Fortinet, SonicWALL, Cisco, WatchGuard and ZyXEL in third-party testing. ATI Introduces Industry's First Fully Functional, Real-Time Temperature Monitoring App for Smartphones
App Turns Smartphone into Powerful Real-Time Temperature Monitoring Tool Providing Instant Access to Full Capabilities of LOG-IC Data Loggers
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- American Thermal Instruments (ATI) today announced a smartphone app that enables users to access ATI's LOG-IC® NFC data logger to scan, review, and communicate real-time temperature monitoring data. The app is the first in the cold chain industry to provide fully functional end-to-end temperature monitoring in real-time.
During the announcement at the IQPC Cold Chain Conference in Philadelphia, ATI demonstrated the LOG-IC NFC app on a Google Nexus S smartphone. Exhibitors highlighted the simplicity of the process, showing how quickly users could use a smartphone to access real-time data and complete temperature histories from a data logger. Based on the Android operating system, the app functions on any NFC-capable smartphone.
"LOG-IC was designed to take full advantage of advances in wireless technology," said Matty Toomb, ATI vice president of sales and marketing. "The NFC app continues our efforts to deliver comprehensive, easy-to-use temperature monitoring solutions that reduce risk, while saving time and costs."
ATI developers embedded near field communication technology in LOG-IC data loggers, enabling them to communicate with the LOG-IC NFC smartphone app. After scanning the data logger, users
immediately see the data on the smartphone display and have the option to view it in various formats. All existing capabilities of LOG-IC data loggers have been maintained in the NFC version.
The new app includes the fully featured LOG-IC software, which offers clear, accurate decision support, as well as extensive analysis and documentation. Users can automatically and instantly generate a variety of reports, charts, and graphs to meet individual needs. Capitalizing on the capabilities of the smartphone, the app also allows users to share data with associates and export it to other applications.
"Cold chain management now has an answer to eliminate major barriers to cost-effective temperature monitoring," explained Toomb. "The LOG-IC app significantly quickens your ability to respond to risk. It also provides total mobility, effectively offering decision support where it's needed. And it consolidates resources, with the smartphone replacing distributed readers and other electronic equipment. No other solution offers this level of functionality at such a relatively low cost per use."
General market availability of the LOG-IC NFC app is scheduled for January 2012. Meanwhile, ATI is releasing the app to companies who wish to participate in the Pilot Program.

Combined with plans to significantly increase its Wi-Fi hotspot presence in the UK, The Cloud is retrofitting thousands of hotspot locations with ZoneFlex(TM) dual-band 802.11n access points throughout the UK in myriad retail locations such as Caffe Nero, PizzaExpress, Pret A Manger and many others, for high-speed public Wi-Fi access.
Recently acquired by BSkyB, The Cloud offers Wi-Fi coverage across 12 European countries, in over 8,500 locations with 22,000 access points deployed in venues such as airports, hotels, and railway stations.
Unprecedented Hotspot Growth Expected
The hotspot market continues to surge forward driven by the increased penetration of Wi-Fi-enabled smart mobile devices that are driving demand for higher speed wireless connectivity. According to a new report by In-Stat Research entitled "Wi-Fi Hotspots: the Mobile Operator's 3G Offload Alternative," worldwide hotspot venues are projected to increase to over 1.2 million venues in 2015 from under 421,000 in 2010. Usage will follow similar growth, increasing from four billion connects in 2010 to 120 billion connects by 2015.
Consequently, wireless operators are approaching the hotspot market with renewed energy for reasons that range from mobile data offloading to competitive positioning. With the current, renewed interested in establishing a wireless footprint, the market has again entered into an almost frenzied rush to secure venue contracts, particularly in high-density urban areas.
"Given the density of users, the increase in smart devices and the sophistication of high bandwidth applications, we've really focused our efforts on how to best improve the Wi-Fi experience for our customers," said Sami Susiaho, Wi-Fi product manager for The Cloud. "Busy hotspots on the high street can sometimes prove challenging when deploying Wi-Fi services and the equipment used needs to be able to cope with those challenges. We see this as a real opportunity to offer higher speed Wi-Fi services to consumers, managed wireless services to business and mobile data offload to operators."
Out with the Old, In with the New
The Cloud is offering Ruckus indoor ZoneFlex 7363 dual-band 802.11n access points (APs) to its commercial customers as an attractive way to incent them to offer public Wi-Fi services. With it, businesses can now attract new customers while focusing on their core competence - eliminating the need to manage network equipment and taking away the burden of having to provide audit trails on wireless usage.
The Cloud's hotspot network upgrade replaces legacy 802.11g APs with patented Wi-Fi technology from Ruckus, developed to deliver higher speed, higher capacity, and reliable wireless connectivity within an affordable and small form factor.
The Wi-Fi upgrade now makes use of new 802.11n technology that has been combined with patented adaptive antenna technology that delivers stronger and longer-range signals that continuously adapt to changing environmental conditions. 802.11n technology operates at speeds of 300Mbps and higher.
Ruckus ZoneFlex APs are pre-provisioned and automatically "phone home" to self configure. In dense environments where retailers are in close proximity, wireless meshing simplifies deployment and reduces operating expenses - allowing The Cloud and its customers to save the cost of DSL lines for backhauling traffic. ZoneFlex APs are managed by ZoneDirector(TM) controllers within high-density environments, or by FlexMaster(TM), a remote Wi-Fi management service platform used to manage and monitor standalone APs.
A mass deployment tool for wireless deployments, FlexMaster is a centralized Wi-Fi service management platform that provides bulk configuration and statistics for tens of thousands of discrete APs or entire wireless LAN systems. FlexMaster effectively eliminates any equipment configuration by the retailer or technical support by The Cloud. Devices can simply be shipped to retail customers who need only to plug them into a power source.
From a technology perspective, The Cloud has had four necessities for its next-gen Wi-Fi infrastructure: 802.11n-capable indoor and outdoor devices; supporting clients on the 2.4 and 5GHz bands; resilient, self-optimizing and self-healing wireless mesh capabilities; and the ability to dynamically manage the RF environment.
About The Cloud
The Cloud builds and operates Wi-Fi networks across the UK and Europe to provide the mobile media experience that consumer's want. The service delivers simple, fast, reliable and cost effective broadband to millions of Wi-Fi enabled laptop, netbook, smartphone and entertainment devices. The Cloud has exclusive commercial partnerships with retail, leisure, hotels, sports, transport, entertainment and content partners to deliver its longer-term vision of a connected society. The Cloud connects over 3 million devices each month to its Wi-Fi network. It also works with a growing number of brands such as Marriott, McDonalds, O2, Pret A Manger, Eat and the City of London Corporation to deliver fast Internet access to any Wi-Fi enabled device. The Cloud is a part of the BSkyB Group.

Australian company Pixel Capital Pty Ltd adds Creditcard.net to its financial comparison network to enter the US market
SYDNEY, Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- On September 22, 2011 the domain http://www.creditcard.net sold for USD $138,000 to Australian company Pixel Capital Pty Ltd, owner of a financial comparison site network that includes http://www.creditcard.com.au and http://www.creditworld.com.au. With this purchase, Pixel Capital is broadening its portfolio and entering the US financial information web site market.
Based on data from industry news portal DN Journal, Pixel Capital believes the sale of Creditcard.net to be the highest global domain sale for September 2011, the second highest .net sale year to date (behind Cars.net which was sold for USD $170,000 in June 2011), and the 27th most valuable global domain sale for 2011.
The Australian company's flagship brand Creditworld.com.au started as one of the first financial comparison websites in Australian in 2005 -- and has gone on to become one of the leading sites in the category with more than 250,000 unique visitors per month across its network.
Pixel Capital Pty Ltd founding Director, Roland B Bleyer, said, "We're very excited to enter the US market with Creditcard.net. Creditcard.net positions itself as "The Credit Card Network" featuring experienced financial industry and finance news writers updating the site with new insights every week. The site explains that with so many marketing messages been thrown around by banks, it's time to cut down the jargon and have real people provide regular, valuable insights on credit card advice, offers and opportunities.
WRAPmail Releases First Webmail Component for Users of Webmail from Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and Others
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- WRAPmail (OTC: WRAP) (http://www.WRAPmail.com) a provider of free and enterprise email branding solutions, today announced that they have made available the first component of their webmail solution built in to the WRAPmail dashboard.
The idea behind WRAPmail is to utilize the facts that all businesses and most individuals have websites and/or belong to one or more social networks. Furthermore we all send emails every day. With WRAPmail these emails can for businesses become branding tools and for individuals they can all have one or more personal interactive stationeries surrounding the text. Personal WRAPS can for example have images/links to Social Networks such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.
A WRAP consists of images and embedded links and is 100% customizable by the users so whether one wants to promote ones business offerings or simply create a party invitation it is all possible in the WRAPmaker which is part of the WRAPmail Dashboard.
Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and AOL have almost 1 billion email users among them.
All of these users plus users of any other webmail solution (such as GoDaddy for example) are now able to send WRAPPED emails from the WRAPmail dashboard uniquely available to anyone who signs up for WRAPmail's free service. They only way to do this earlier would be for them to start using an email client but our research shows that changing from webmail to client-based was a huge obstacle and steep learning curve for most.
In the first component released users can COMPOSE an email, send it and have it arrive to the recipient WRAPPED with a copy stored in a SENT folder.
The next step which we aim to release shortly will be full webmail where users can not only send but also receive emails directly into their unique WRAPmail Dashboard. WRAPmail is compatible with any device with an internet connection and browser.
WRAPmail is currently in the growth stage of the company focusing on growing the number of users. The next stage for the company will be implementation of an ad-revenue model where users will have an option to opt in and share the revenue from 3rd party advertising. With billions of one-on-one emails (not bulk/mass emails) sent every day we believe the ad revenue model has the best potential for our company, users and shareholders alike.

HeyStaks Launches Community-Based Search Apps for iPad and Android Tablets -- Users Can Now Search Less and Find More
Innovators of New Social Search Technology Harness Communities of Like-Minded People to Produce More Meaningful and Relevant Search Results
SAN FRANCISCO and DUBLIN, Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- HeyStaks, the social search start-up with offices in San Francisco and Dublin, today announced an innovative one-stop mobile search solution combining the best search results from both your community and search engines. The product is presented in an interactive and engaging newspaper-like user interface to help users quickly and easily get more relevant and personalized search results. HeyStaks is releasing apps for the iPad and Android tablets today. The apps are also featured as one of the fifteen best of the web apps on the Sony Tablet S Honeycomb devices rolling out globally in the U.S., Asia and Europe this month, and on Sony's Tablet P rolling out later this fall. HeyStaks apps are already available on iPhone and Android phones.
Based on the premise that people sharing common interests will generate the best and most personalized search results, HeyStaks is powered by search communities - anonymous users joined in a group based on their mutual interests, such as California travel, wineries, sporting goods, gadgets, news topics, etc. The app generates results that are much more relevant to people with similar interests, in addition to standard search engine results.
"People expect more from their searches. They want to search less but find more, and that is where HeyStaks comes in. Our users receive search results that are more targeted to their specific interests because they are generated from communities of like-minded people around a specific topic. Importantly, identities are protected and never revealed, yet users still get the benefit of the best of each other's searches, simply by searching as normal" said Jonathan Dillon, CEO of HeyStaks. "We are excited to continue our mission of being the go-to search solution across tablets and smart-phones worldwide. Our iPhone and Android phone apps are already gaining traction and the introduction of our tablet apps for iPads and Android devices is our next step to achieving that vision."
HeyStaks is pioneering the next wave of search technology by combining communities of people and search engine recommendations to help users find the most relevant information quickly. Upon searching on a particular topic, users simply tap to join the most appropriate community based on that topic and are immediately presented with targeted content that users with shared interests have searched for in the past. While the user interface is simple and engaging, the model is built on unique and proprietary relevance and reputation-based social algorithms. HeyStaks also complements current search engine results by featuring Google and other search results in a newspaper-style format, and will feature more third party content sources as it continues to grow.
Pricing and Availability
HeyStaks is a free application and is currently available on Android tablets, iPads, the iPhone, and Android phones.
Additionally, the HeyStaks social search app is currently featured in the Select App site on the new Sony Tablets, where Sony features fifteen of the best of the web apps for their customers, with HeyStaks featuring in the categories:

Toshiba Launches Wireless LSI Compliant with TransferJet(TM) Close Proximity Wireless Transfer Technology
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today announced it will launch a wireless LSI compliant with the TransferJet(TM) standard for close proximity wireless transfer technology. Samples will start shipping at the end of January 2012 and mass production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter (April-June) of 2012.
Using Toshiba's cutting-edge wireless communication technology, the new product achieves receiving sensitivity of -78dBm, the best performance in the industry, greatly surpassing the TransferJet specification(1). The high sensitivity contributes to stable communication between TransferJet-compliant digital devices.
Toshiba's cutting-edge RF-CMOS LSI integration technology enabled incorporation of the RF circuit and RF switch for TransferJet in the wireless LSI for the first time in the industry. Furthermore, the LSI is manufactured in a 65-nanometer process, lowering the number of external RF circuits and peripheral components, and uses the industry's smallest package to reduce overall chip size. This makes the new product ideal for increasingly compact and lightweight digital products, such as smartphones, tablet PCs, notebook PCs, and digital cameras.
TransferJet is a close proximity wireless transfer technology standard promoted by the TransferJet Consortium whose membership consists of 53 companies (as of September 2011), including Toshiba. TransferJet provides high-speed data transfer with low power consumption simply by selecting on the screen of a mobile device the data file to be transferred and "touching" the receiving device with the mobile device. Applications of TransferJet could expand to digital signage when combined with Near Field Communications (NFC) technology.

Exar Releases New DDR 3 SDRAM Memory Bus Termination Regulator
Active Termination Provides Signal and Data Integrity during Data Access for DDR 1, 2 and 3 Memories
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR) unveiled today a SDRAM memory bus termination regulator supporting the latest DDR 3 SDRAM standard (SSTL-15).
The XRP2997 provides a simple and economical solution for implementing an active bus termination in all equipment and applications using the latest DDR3 SDRAM memories such as set top boxes, video and graphic cards and mother boards. Usage of such active termination on increasingly faster double data rate memory data busses prevents data reflection and ultimately read/write data corruption. The XRP2997 is also equally capable of supporting the former DDR1 and DDR2 SDRAM memory types.
"DDR3 memories are now the standard for equipment requiring fast access to memory banks," said Eric Pittana, director of marketing, Power Product Line. "The XRP2997 is a simple and low cost solution that prevents the data access corruption typically caused by longer lengths of memory interconnects and the multiple stubs that are required for supporting these memory devices."
Key Product Features
With a capability of sourcing and sinking up to 2A, and 2.4A peak, the XRP2997 bus termination regulator generates a tightly regulated low noise 0.75V+/-20mV VTT voltage as required by the DDR3 SDRAM (SSTL-15) standard. It converts input voltages as low as 1.1V while the output voltage is adjustable through an external resistor divider or by forcing the VREF pin voltage. Only requiring an output capacitance of 22uF to operate, power-up sequencing is achieved via an enable function and a soft start feature. Built-in source/sink over-current, over-temperature and under-voltage lockout protections insure safe operation under abnormal operating conditions. The XRP2997 is pin and function compatible to Exar's DDR2 SP2996B device and provides an upgrade to support DDR3 memories.
Power Management Products
Highly reliable, accurate, power management is a critical part of any technology system. Exar has a broad array of high-performance and industry-proven power management solutions including handset and lighting controls, power conversion, and standard linear devices.
Prices, Packages, Availability and Additional Information
The XRP2997 is available now in volume quantities and offered in a RoHS compliant, "green" halogen free exposed pad 8-pin SOIC package. Pricing starts at $0.34 for 1K units.
Additional information on the XRP2997 product can be found at:
Exar Corporation delivers highly differentiated silicon, software and subsystem solutions for data communication, storage, consumer and industrial applications. Zscaler ThreatLabZ Releases Free Tool to Combat Facebook Security Issues
Zscaler Likejacking Prevention Proactively Identifies and Prevents Malicious Facebook Attacks, Scams and Spam That Leverage "Like" Buttons and Other Widgets
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Zscaler, The Cloud Security Company, today announced the release of a free security tool that consumers can download from the web to protect themselves against malicious threats, scams and spam propagated on Facebook through a technique called "Likejacking." The latest free consumer security tool developed by Zscaler ThreatLabZ - the company's research arm - Zscaler Likejacking Prevention is available today as a plug-in for Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers.
Zscaler ThreatLabZ has seen the number of Likejacking attacks grow to become the most common social engineering threat encountered on Facebook today, with unsuspecting users and their friends falling victim daily. Likejacking is a form of Clickjacking, which causes people to be surreptitiously tricked into clicking one or more hidden links on a web page. With Likejacking, attackers exploit the Facebook "Like" button and other widgets - including the latest announced "Listened," "Watched" and "Read" gestures, game "Challenge" button, and even the "Dislike" button if implemented - by getting people to click them. The "Like" buttons are often hidden transparently behind a "Play" or other button, causing you to click without knowing that you just unintentionally "Liked" something; this causes the content to appear in your friends' News Feeds with a link back to the "Liked" website. The result, as you can imagine, is that it can spread virally very quickly from network to network, enabling the attacker to spread malicious links, propagate spam and conduct other types of social engineering attacks.
"Our findings are consistent with other security researchers, who estimate that approximately 15 percent of Facebook videos alone are, in fact, Likejacking attacks," said Julien Sobrier, senior researcher, Zscaler ThreatLabZ, and developer of the new Zscaler Likejacking Prevention tool. "In 2010, for example, hundreds of thousands of Facebook users fell victim to a single scheme alone."
Sobrier continued: "Attackers are constantly developing and engineering new tactics and, unfortunately, traditional security products often lack the kind of protection users need to defend themselves. As Web 2.0 sites increase their use of social plug-ins such as the Facebook 'Like' button, attackers are shifting to malicious clickjacking techniques, which are not being detected by browsers. Proactive tools like the new Zscaler Likejacking Prevention tool will provide simple yet effective protection against Likejacking and any type of clickjacking impacting Facebook widgets."
According to Michael Sutton, VP of Security Research, "Communication mediums on the Internet have shifted and attackers have quickly adapted. Whereas spam email was once the communication medium of choice for attackers, they now leverage social networks to communicate with victims. Overall, Facebook is a more effective social engineering tool because, when exploited, the communication is coming directly from a trusted source. Unfortunately, browsers remain vulnerable to web-based attacks such as Likejacking, and mobile browsers and traditional security solutions have failed to address this threat."

Pace Introduces Helium Software for Gateways and Smartbox Devices
SALTAIRE, England, September 26, 2011/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
New hardware-agnostic unified software platform allows
operators to remotely manage multiple gateway types and devices
Pace plc today announced the launch of its Helium Unified Gateway
Software for broadband network providers. Helium enables operators to manage
their services through any gateway or next generation smartbox system,
regardless of vendor, and provides advanced home networking services to the
consumer in a simple, operator-defined environment.
Helium, a new addition to Pace's Elements platform, is hardware-agnostic
software that allows operators to install, connect and manage multiple
hardware types from a range of vendors. The software provides advanced home
networking capabilities via gateways or smartboxes, allowing subscribers to
connect a range of electronic equipment into the home network - from
printers and digital photo frames to set-top boxes and laptop computers -
without needing to replace their in-home devices.
Mark Loughran, Regional Pace President, said: "In recent years we've
witnessed a platform effect take place as consumer devices become the
foundations for delivery of a vast range of apps and capabilities from a
host of different sources. This explosion has already happened across PCs,
set-top boxes, mobile phones and tablets, and we're now seeing it across
gateways and smartbox devices. Helium enables this shift, establishing a
consistent environment that empowers operators to innovate, support
subscribers from within the home or business network, and harness the latest
applications and cloud content for new digital home services."
"By providing a common platform, able to connect and manage disparate
devices and services, Helium delivers a fast and cost effective way for
operators to develop new revenue sources and put themselves at the centre of
the connected home."
Helium Unified Gateway Software features a central control system,
enabling operators to update and manage subscribers' home networks remotely.
Operators can install Helium onto gateways in the field, and upgrade
software and firmware remotely, easing the introduction of modifications and
additional services for subscribers. This simplifies hardware and service
rollouts, and lowers the costs of deploying and maintaining residential or
business gateway systems.
Helium includes an SDK, giving operators the tools to independently
develop and launch in-house applications and new revenue-generating
services. At the same time, the platform's core functionality is maintained
and continually enhanced by Pace, so that operators can concentrate on
adapting their service to best serve their subscribers' needs. This allows
service providers to move quickly to continually evolve and differentiate
their offerings in the connected home or business.
Helium is the latest addition to Pace's expanding product and service
portfolio, which enables operators to evolve digital services at the speed
they want, how they want. This portfolio includes a wide range of pioneering
set-top boxes and gateways, sophisticated software, highly specialised
customer care call centres, business consulting and product delivery
services. These products and services are designed to support telco, cable
and satellite operators in different global markets, regardless of their
technology needs or market stage.
Pace will be demonstrating its full portfolio of products and services,
including Helium, on stand H4 at Broadband World Forum at CNIT, La Defense,
Paris, from 27-29th September. Operators visiting the Pace stand will see
how they can utilise the Elements platform in tandem with other products
from the Pace portfolio to create a pre-integrated next generation IPTV/OTT
Solution. By working with Pace, operators can eliminate complex systems
integration problems, and reduce the costs and time to market associated
with delivering new, enhanced user experiences to their customers.

MILAN, September 26, 2011/PRNewswire/ --
Southeast United States premier provider of comprehensive technologies -
from TV decoders to home theatre and automation - adopts the Viamente Route
Planner, the SaaS solution for Routing Optimization.
It has just been announced that Custom Communications, the largest
subcontractor of Dish Network in the Southeast United States, has decided to
adopt Viamente's Route Planning system. The choice made by Custom
Communications is another important confirmation of how perfectly this
Vehicle Routing Optimization Software matches the needs of Field Services
business.
"With 150 technicians serving approximately 800 customers per day we
needed a robust route planner to handle our routing needs", said Darrell
Sanderlin, VP of Sales at Custom Communications. No wonder that the answer
to Mr Sanderlin's need was found in the Viamente Route Planner, as the
web-based software and its underlying API allow an automated optimization of
all dispatching operations. In a matter of seconds the proprietary
algorithms calculate which vehicle should service which locations,
considering all the constraints and specific customer requirements and
aiming at the optimal management of all the resources (fuel, vehicles,
driving time, etc.). In other words, full-featured Multi-Vehicle Routing for
small and medium fleets which want a really improved operational efficiency.
"The Viamente system allows us to save time and money with additional
features other routing solutions could not provide" continued Mr Sanderlin.
The simplicity in all the dispatching operations is matched by other
specific and unique features, such as the management of Time Windows and
different Service Times; moreover, the Viamente software can automatically
assign specific orders to specific drivers/vehicles with the required
specialty or skill for that particular job.
The return on investment is easy to calculate: there is no up-front
investment, just a monthly fee which can be interrupted at any moment;
savings start being visible from the very first deployment and keep coming
with every following dispatching operation. "The waypoint tagging system in
the Viamente API allowed us to maximize our ROI", Mr Sanderlin noted. Sergio
Nalin, CTO at Viamente, pointed out: "Custom Communications has chosen to
use the Viamente API and seamlessly integrate our Route Planner directly
with their existing IT system and procedures. By API integration it is
possible to customize the operations, develop additional features and
implement a tailored User Interface. In terms of data handling, once our
system is integrated with the customer's database, this means seamless
import/export operations as well as near-zero maintenance efforts".

LightSquared is Committed to Making Broadband Accessible and Affordable for All Americans
RESTON, Va., Sept. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- LightSquared(TM)'s CEO, Sanjiv Ahuja, will publish an open letter to all Americans that will run in major newspapers on Monday. In the letter, Mr. Ahuja reaffirms LightSquared's commitment to making wireless broadband accessible and affordable across America through the company's wholesale-only nationwide 4G-LTE network integrated with satellite coverage.
The text of the letter reads:
To Americans everywhere,
Today, with limited competition in the U.S. wireless market, there are still vast areas of our country without access to broadband. Other areas are plagued by dropped calls and weak signals.
America's wireless infrastructure is at a critical crossroad as weak signals, dead-zones, and over-subscribed networks risk stalling American innovation and failing to meet consumer needs now and in the future. Within the next 24 months, demand for broadband wireless will outstrip the current total spectrum available in the United States--jeopardizing everything from the smartphones and tablets we love to the emergency responder services we rely upon to keep us safe. The current nationwide wireless providers have failed to innovate and in the process have failed to keep pace with consumer and technological demands.
Understanding this impending reality, LightSquared began investing nearly a decade ago in the development of America's first state-of-the-art nationwide wireless broadband network integrated with satellite coverage to provide high quality broadband access and affordability for all Americans. After the review of our engineering and technological plans, LightSquared received the license to operate our network in 2003 and again in 2005 with the full endorsement of the GPS industry. Half a dozen years ago, Republican and Democrat regulators and policy experts understood the impending crisis caused by a lack of competition and innovation, and they, too, endorsed our plan to bring an affordable solution to Americans no matter where they live.
Recently, concerns have been raised about interference with GPS devices. We take these concerns very seriously. Despite the fact that the interference is caused by others' inappropriate use of LightSquared's licensed spectrum, we have been proactive in working toward a solution to the GPS issue. We are making a $150 million private investment in the solution for GPS. We have moved our spectrum farther away from the core GPS frequencies and at the request of the FCC, we set up, funded, and ran the largest and most comprehensive testing program this country has ever seen.
Hundreds of engineers tested hundreds of devices in laboratories around the country, providing experts an enormous bank of data to assess the extent of the problem and design the solution.
With 99.5 percent of all commercial GPS interference accounted for and solved, LightSquared has now tackled solving the remaining .5 percent of GPS interference occurring on precision devices that also inappropriately violate our licensed spectrum. We have partnered with established GPS manufacturers to develop technology that eliminates interference issues for high-precision GPS devices, including those in the agriculture, surveying, construction, and defense industries. Pre-production designs are already in testing; once completed, this technology can be implemented simply, quickly, and inexpensively into GPS devices.
This solution allows our network to coexist harmoniously, side by side, with GPS--generating much-needed competition in the marketplace and ultimately providing more than 260 million Americans with access to wireless broadband.
The facts are clear. The need for additional wireless broadband is imminent. The desire to expand free-market competition and to provide consumers with broader access has been the hallmark of both Republican and Democrat policy makers for more than a decade. Regulators from both Democrat and Republican Administrations have conducted reviews and tests of the LightSquared network--the most extensive in the history of the FCC--and both have reached the same conclusions: they support the LightSquared network.
LightSquared's commitment to infuse $14 billion of private investment--without any government funding--into America's infrastructure will bring 75,000 jobs over the next five years, competition, and innovation to the U.S. wireless industry, with affordable prices and better service for Americans everywhere. I hope you will join with us as we work to build the 21st-century communications network all Americans deserve.
LightSquared's mission is to revolutionize the U.S. wireless industry. With the creation of the first-ever, wholesale-only nationwide 4G-LTE network integrated with satellite coverage, LightSquared offers people the speed, value and reliability of universal connectivity, wherever they are in the United States. As a wholesale-only operator, LightSquared will deploy an open 4G wireless broadband network to be used by existing and new service providers to sell their own devices, applications and services - at a competitive cost and without retail competition from LightSquared. The deployment and operation of LightSquared's network represent more than $14 billion of private investment over the next eight years. Freelancer.com's New Design Studio Has Everything You Need to Get Your Perfect Design
New feature increases collaboration between employers and designers, resulting in higher quality, faster delivered design projects.
SYDNEY, Sept. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Freelancer.com, the world's largest outsourcing marketplace, today launched a new feature that streamlines design projects, resulting in the creation of higher quality designs. The Design Studio, as it is known, increases collaboration between employers and designers and extends Freelancer's dominance among online design marketplaces.
Chief Executive Matt Barrie said, "The Design Studio is an all-in-one project management tool. Once designs are uploaded into the Studio, employers and designers can work together to perfect them using the online viewing gallery, message board and in-built contract management system."
The Design Studio centralizes all the tasks essential for a successful design process. Employers can view all the designs, rate and provide immediate feedback to the designer. Unlike traditional email the messaging system is a continuous dialogue from start to finish, meaning the entire conversation is visible in the Studio. This speeds up the rate at which suggestions can be made and implemented. Then, once that perfect design is created, the Employer completes a short handover process to become the new legal owner of their design.
"Design Studio simplifies the design process for all parties. You don't have to open attachments in multiple windows, and communication is significantly clearer when you can scroll through every message, instead of storing and looking through individual emails. Intellectual property transfers used to be intimidating, until we made it easy for you to own your design in a few mouse clicks," Barrie continued.
The Design Studio is available immediately on Freelancer.com for only US$19.

A Free Shopping App for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
ASOS, the online fashion and beauty retailer, announces the recent
launch of its shopping application, giving an elevated user experience when
browsing and purchasing from the site, using an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
James Hart, ASOS e-Commerce director, says:
"Following year-on-year growth of over 800% in mobile revenue, I'm
delighted to release our iPad and iPhone shopping apps. We decided to take a
considered approach to releasing these first apps, so that their foundations
were rock-solid, thereby allowing us to now develop and improve the
experiences."
For completely synchronised account management, shoppers can also
seamlessly integrate between the website, mobile site and app. Key shopping
features, such as "Save for Later" - where products of interest are saved
from the category results page to review in the customer's preferred
timeframe - and "Shopping Bag" will be accessible upon sign-in.
Additional features exclusive to the app include the ability to search
and locate local drop-off points (by map) for returns, and saved searches to
access favourite types of products faster.
Hart commented further:
"We also wanted to make sure the app synced with the main site, so we
built APIs to do that. As a result, we've delivered real-time stock
availability and your Bag and Saved Items syncing with your main ASOS
account. Finally, we've built some app-specific features in such as offline
browsing of 'New In' items, for those underground moments, and a new My
Searches area; both designed for speed and convenience on the go. Watch this
space for much more over the coming months."
The launch comes one month after the ASOS Magazine app, and a year since
the dedicated mobile site, in a series of innovative new technological
platforms from the global online store, which added Australia and Italy to
its site portfolio within the last week.

Comcast and Elected Officials Announce New Initiative to Help Close the Digital Divide in San Francisco Bay Area
'Internet Essentials' to Provide Low-Cost Internet Service, Affordable Computers and Digital Literacy Training to Families with Children Eligible for a Free Lunch under the National School Lunch Program
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast today announced the San Francisco Bay Area launch of "Internet Essentials," an ambitious and comprehensive broadband adoption program, during the Youth Tech Summit co-hosted by elected officials and Curt Henninger, Regional Senior Vice President for Comcast's California Region. Joining to mark the launch were Hydra Mendoza, President of the San Francisco Board of Education; San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee; and other dignitaries from the community.
The program addresses what research has identified as the three primary barriers to broadband adoption:
1) A lack of understanding of how the Internet is relevant and useful;
2) The cost of a home computer, and
3) The cost of Internet service.
Available to low-income families living in Comcast's service areas with children who are eligible to receive a free lunch under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), the goal of "Internet Essentials" is to help ensure more American families benefit from all the Internet has to offer.
"The 'Internet Essentials' initiative provides broadband services to households who have been unable to afford it. Access to broadband in students' homes will not only help them connect to educational resources, but will allow their parents to apply for jobs online or learn more about available government services," said Curt Henninger, Comcast's Regional Senior Vice President for California.
During the briefing at the UCSF Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, Henninger joined the elected officials and community leaders to introduce "Internet Essentials" and promote the collaboration between businesses, school districts and community organizations who are working together to bridge the digital divide.
Service Details:
Qualified "Internet Essentials" families will receive:
-- Residential Internet service for $9.95 a month + applicable taxes;
-- No price increases, no activation fees, or equipment rental fees;
-- A voucher to purchase a low-cost computer for $149.99 + tax; and
-- Access to free digital literacy training in print, online, and
in-person.
Additional benefits include a Norton(TM) Security Suite ($160 value), which provides comprehensive online security protection, at no additional charge.
Eligibility:
A household is eligible to participate in the "Internet Essentials" program if it meets all of the following criteria:
-- Is located where Comcast offers Internet service;
-- Has at least one child who is eligible to receive a free school lunch
under the NSLP (As an example, according to the Department of
Agriculture, a household of three would have to make less than $25,000 a
year in income);
-- Has not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days;
-- Does not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment.
Comcast will sign up eligible families in the program for at least three years, through the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Any household that qualifies during this three-year period will remain eligible for "Internet Essentials" provided a child eligible for a free lunch remains living in the household.
