Mitek Systems First to Launch Mobile Imaging Cloud Service
Enables Developers in Banking, Insurance and Healthcare to Create Camera-Based Smartphone and Tablet Apps that Extract Data from Documents, Enhance the Input Experience on Mobile Devices
SAN DIEGO, July 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- By the end of this year, smartphones and tablets will become the majority of all mobile devices in use in the United States, according to industry analysts. To enable industries such as banking, insurance and healthcare to leverage those devices to eliminate manual information entry, Mitek Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MITK; http://www.miteksystems.com) today announced the availability of the first Mobile Imaging Cloud, which captures, extracts and routes information contained in documents and can be used to create camera-based mobile solutions that simplify the user experience for tasks such as receipt management and expense reporting, obtaining insurance quotations and flex-spending account reimbursements, and submitting prescriptions.
Created by Mitek and hosted at Amazon's multi-tenant, enterprise-class EC2 platform, the Mitek Mobile Imaging Cloud (MIC) provides mobile application developers, systems integrators and businesses with a fast, cost-effective way to create smartphone and tablet apps that use the camera as an input method for a wide variety of tasks.
Mobile Imaging Cloud features Mitek's patented image-extraction technologies, which are used by most of the nation's top 10 retail banks for processes such as mobile check deposit. MIC is ideal for enrollment applications, quotations, reimbursements and identity verifications because Mitek's extractive-imaging technology works with both paper and non-paper documents, including drivers' licenses, gift cards, receipts, invoices, tax documents and many others.
"We've achieved 'gold-standard' recognition in the financial services industry as the leader in mobile-imaging applications for check deposits, bill payments and ACH enrollments," said Mitek President and CEO James B. DeBello. "Our Mobile Imaging Cloud is a solution accelerator for developers. Our partners and customers get to market faster, while capitalizing on Mitek's years of experience and intellectual property in mobile-image pre-processing, analysis, and data extraction. It's the latest example of Mitek's commitment to providing our customers with solutions that enable them to acquire and retain consumers and make their employees more productive while providing a great user experience."
"Companies in a wide variety of industries are looking for innovative ways to leverage smartphones and tablets to attract new customers and better serve their existing ones," he added. "Mobile Imaging Cloud meets that need by providing an enterprise-grade solution that enables employees and customers to simply take photos of key documents instead of manually typing that information, thereby reducing errors and the time involved."
Built on advanced algorithms and neural networks, Mitek's Mobile Imaging Cloud provides an optimal customer experience by eliminating the need for users to type data on small keyboards. The solution replaces keystrokes with a single photo of any document from which important data is extracted and securely routed to transaction-processing systems.
MIC compensates for distortions and shadows, and optimizes the document photo to become recognition friendly, assuring the industry's highest accuracy and throughput for extracted data. The user is prompted with instant feedback through real-time analytics that measure photo quality, providing a high level of customer satisfaction.
"The ability to utilize a cloud-based imaging platform to analyze and extract data from photos taken by a mobile phone or tablet is invaluable for individuals and businesses interested in developing applications for industries that want to shorten the time it takes to quickly and accurately input data by reducing the keystrokes required for data entry," said Roger Entner, analyst and founder of Recon Analytics, which provides fact-based research and insights around the telecom industry.
Mobile Imaging Cloud is designed for rapid prototyping and deployment of innovative applications using mobile cameras, and is available today on both a hosted basis and under software licensing arrangements. Mitek hosts the service with open APIs and proven compatibility with a wide array of mobile operating systems and devices.
About Mitek Systems
Over the past 25 years, Mitek Systems has established its technology as the 'gold standard' for check imaging and fraud detection. That information can then be imported into a company's business processes and systems - powering a new generation of mobilized applications and consumer services to simplify peoples' lives and create unique competitive advantages for the companies that market to them.
Mitek's mobile technology is now being used by most leading financial institutions for mobile check deposit.
Building on its success with financial services organizations, Mitek is now working with other industries to utilize its patented extractive imaging technology to create unique solutions where consumers can take pictures of their banking, insurance or healthcare documents or statements and with a single snap automatically complete transactions, enroll in new services or receive competitive offers by using their online smartphone or tablet cameras.

Mendeley Rips Beta Label Off Award-Winning Research Collaboration Software with v1.0 Release
Startup "Most Likely to Change the World for the Better" Also Hits 1 Million Users and 100 Million Paper Uploads
NEW YORK, July 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Mendeley (http://www.mendeley.com), the world's largest research collaboration platform, released Mendeley Desktop v1.0 for Windows, Mac, and Linux today. The release marks the next step in the evolution of this fast growing academic start-up, and it follows two other major milestones for the company: 1 million users have now downloaded the application, and Mendeley's crowd-sourced research database saw its 100 millionth paper uploaded.
"Mendeley is at the leading edge of a scientific revolution: integration of social networking and scientific sharing. I am using it in a diverse array of applications, from scientific collaborations to outreach to staying up to date on the latest scientific advances," said Jonathan Eisen, Ph.D., Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Davis.
Cross-platform Mendeley simplifies PDF document management, bibliography sharing and annotation for scientific collaboration, and provides personalized recommendations for new research based on the content of an individual user's library. Key updates in Mendeley Desktop 1.0 include highly requested features such as automatic duplicate detection and shared annotations for group collaboration.
Since going live in 2009, the platform's rapidly expanding user base and crowd-sourced catalog of research shows that Mendeley is solving real problems for people in academia. The new features allow Mendeley to do an even better job of achieving its mission to change the way research is done by connecting researchers with new content and with new colleagues for collaboration, and thus making research more open and transparent.
"At its core, Mendeley is a stand-alone reference manager and bibliography generator. But we've gone beyond that by making research papers the social object," said Mendeley Chief Scientist Dr. Jason Hoyt. "This release version 1.0 brings us even closer to our vision of developing a long overdue social tool for academia. It means that for scientists and researchers - whether they are in academia, private enterprise, or government - paper and reference management is no longer an isolated activity. It's a dynamic social experience where you discover new content and develop contacts along the way."

Altior Launches Software Development Kit for Hardware-Accelerated Data Compression for Web Servers, Network and Storage Applications
New "Drop In" Capability Boosts Server Performance and Slashes Integration Effort
EATONTOWN, N.J., July 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Altior(TM) Inc., an innovative developer of advanced network and storage embedded systems solutions has announced the availability of its software development kit (SDK), which allows system developers in the network and storage markets to rapidly deploy industry-standard compression and decompression protocols using the company's AltraFlex PCI Express®-enabled, FPGA-based hardware acceleration card solution. The SDK enables web masters to optimize bandwidth while boosting the performance of web server farms by 2x to 5x. Additionally, by eliminating the need to modify existing software, the SDK slashes integration effort and speeds time to deployment by up to six months.
"The SDK is a natural next step in our AltraFlex roadmap," said Ramana Jampala, President and CEO of Altior. "First, we demonstrated the superior flexibility of an FPGA-based approach over a fixed-function ASIC approach. Now, with the SDK, we enable our customers to rapidly adopt and exploit our FPGA-based acceleration solution. Without the SDK, the customer would have to custom-craft an integrated solution, using a team of software experts, and working for months."
The SDK enables the implementation of the industry-standard zlib software compression protocols that are broadly proliferated throughout network and storage applications. The SDK-enabled system detects the presence of an AltraFlex card via the drivers, and automatically offloads the protocol processing to it. In the event the SDK detects no AltraFlex card, the CPU continues to process the routines. The SDK can be deployed across a whole infrastructure or product line, with or without AltraFlex cards, giving design teams the flexibility to easily and rapidly incorporate AltraFlex hardware acceleration in next-generation designs and as after-market upgrades.
"Our customers have indicated their interest to shift execution of multi-stream compressions from the CPU to an AltraFlex hardware acceleration card, which is not only inherently faster, but also supports context switching to increase throughput even further," said Rob Zecha, VP Operations of Altior. "However, they don't want to modify their existing, debugged, functioning software - no re-architecture, no redesign, no recoding, and no recompilation. Using Altior's SDK, customers can do precisely that. They can rapidly integrate an AltraFlex board into the system design without significant software changes."
The SDK is available immediately at no charge. Please contact Altior sales for more information at sales@altior.com.

By enabling one-to-one and group face-to-face communications, VideoConnect improves productivity, collaboration and relationships among customers, partners and employees. In packaging together the combined capabilities of BroadCloud Video, CounterPath and Polycom, Telesphere now offers businesses of any size cost-effective, enterprise-grade videoconferencing that employees can connect to ranging from room telepresence environments, desktops and the rapidly expanding user base of video-ready smartphones and tablet devices.
By using the BroadCloud Video call-bridging technology that is powered by the Polycom UC Intelligent Core software platform, Telesphere's VideoConnect offers support for up to 12 simultaneous meeting participants across various videoconferencing platforms, endpoints and protocols during a single HD videoconference. This protocol- and vendor-agnostic approach allows participants using a wide variety of room-based videoconferencing systems, videophones and softphones to all see, talk with and hear one another immediately, offering businesses a range of choices at an affordable and predictable monthly subscription rate.
"VideoConnect makes video conferencing easy for every employee to use and extremely cost effective for every size business to deploy," said Telesphere CEO Clark Peterson. "By working with BroadSoft®, CounterPath and Polycom, Telesphere can now deliver enterprise-grade, cloud-based video communications to every conference room, office, business desktop and laptop in the world."
In November 2010, Polycom extended its relationship with BroadSoft with the announcement of BroadSoft's BroadCloud(TM) Video service. This cloud service is a hosted infrastructure that integrates with Polycom's UC Intelligent Core software platform to enable leading service providers like Telesphere to lower the cost and complexity of delivering videoconferencing and unified communications (UC) services.
"Telesphere VideoConnect is exactly the type of service-provider offering BroadCloud Video was designed to enable - HD videconferencing that supports multiple devices and integrates seamlessly with key unified communications services, and can be offered with a pricing structure compelling to cost-sensitive and underserved mid-market enterprises," said Leslie Ferry, vice president of marketing, BroadSoft. "We applaud Telesphere's innovation in bringing a CapEx-free videoconferencing solution to market that we believe can accelerate adoption of video."
"Polycom works closely with partners such as Telesphere and BroadSoft to deliver affordable, cloud videoconferencing solutions that can be offered as a service to customers," said Sue Hayden, executive vice president, Polycom. "Telesphere's VideoConnect is powered by the Polycom UC Intelligent Core software platform and provides unmatched scalability, interoperability, reliability and security. Tailored for the tighter budgets and leaner staffs of emerging companies, cloud-delivered solutions like VideoConnect are integral to Polycom's strategy to offer businesses, through our partner ecosystem, a fast on-ramp to the benefits of video collaboration and a flexible expansion path in line with their business growth."
VideoConnect features an intuitive user interface (UI) with a nearly flat learning curve for employees. For example, when employees place a call from a videophone or a webcam-equipped personal computer using a softphone such as CounterPath's Bria, Bria for BroadWorks®, Telesphere's infrastructure detects whether the called party also is video-enabled and, if so, automatically sets up a one-to-one video call. This design eliminates the need for employees to maintain separate videophones, additional numbers or special addresses for colleagues, clients and business partners.
Direct one-to-one video calls are free, while charges for group videoconference calls using the BroadCloud Video bridge are based on minutes and port usage.
Additional key VideoConnect features and functionality include:
-- BroadCloud Video-enabled support for HD video quality at up to 1080p and
connection via SIP, H.264, H.263, H.323 and H.320.
-- Employees within the same company can use four-digit dialing for video
calls.
-- BroadCloud Video-enabled seamless integration of videconferencing with
additional or existing enterprise and unified communications services
such as web collaboration, IM & Presence and HD voice.
-- An intuitive UI that automatically displays the video feeds from the six
most recent speakers, with the current one in the center pane.
-- For videoconferences with more than two parties, a Telesphere-provided
video attendant welcomes each participant to the bridge, requests a
passcode and places them in a virtual waiting area if the conference
hasn't begun. This feature enables any size business to provide a highly
professional, concierge-level user experience.
-- Real-time monitoring that automatically moves participants back to the
waiting area if the moderator unexpectedly drops.
"Business use of video conferencing has expanded from room-based systems, to dedicated desktop devices, quickly followed by laptops and desktop computers. Now we're starting to see tablets and smartphones as endpoints, too," said Todd Carothers, CounterPath's Senior Vice President, Products and Marketing. "It has reached a point where leading cloud communications companies like Telesphere can quickly deploy softphones as part of their VideoConnect service, lowering the cost of access and making participation much more widely available."
Telesphere is a nationwide managed cloud communications provider for businesses delivering an innovative package of Unified Communications, hosted VoIP, Internet connectivity and video conferencing services to businesses throughout the United States. Elsevier Upgrades illumin8, Enhancing Access to Critical Information at the Front End of Innovation
NEW YORK, July 27, 2011/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Web-based research tool provides innovative new features for helping
researchers explore new technologies, product applications and markets
Elsevier, the world's leading provider of scientific, technical and
medical information products and services today announced the expansion of
illumin8 [http://www.illumin8.com ], its groundbreaking semantic search tool
first launched in 2008. illumin8, which indexes scientific, patent, news and
web content from Elsevier and other trusted sources, now offers a range of
new features. These include an improved ability to explore technology trends
and white space opportunities, evaluate potential new technologies and
product applications, and compare organizations, products, people and
approaches.
"The early stage of the innovation process is often referred to as the
fuzzy front-end. At this point in our customers' workflow, using regular
search can feel like reaching around in the dark, especially when they are
dealing with unfamiliar markets or emerging technologies or products," said
Robbertjan Kalff, VP for Product Development for Engineering and Technology
and Alternative Energy at Elsevier. "Users say that this is the time where
they don't know what they don't know, but at the same time they need a way
to get on the right track faster. This is the need that illumin8 addresses."
The functionality of illumin8 is further enhanced by the introduction of
illumin8 Reports [http://www.illumin8.com/report.html ]-- customizable
documents that users can create to share their findings and analysis of a
research topic. The new functionality was developed based on customer
requests and testing with a representative group drawn from the thousands of
illumin8 users worldwide -- including innovation leaders and R&D scientists
and engineers from leading Fortune 500 companies. illumin8 customers come
from across industries such as Automotive, Chemicals, and Consumer Packaged
Goods, and the web-based tool has been enhanced to closely align with its
users' workflow and the questions they need to answer at the front-end of
innovation.
illumin8 supports an organization's innovation platform by helping
identify new technologies and applications for product development,
supporting risk assessment of entering new market space, uncovering
competitor activity and helping identify potential new partners or
suppliers. Unlike regular search platforms, illumin8 is able to easily
identify and show relationships between concepts and entities such as
technologies, organizations, products, and scientific approaches-which is
often buried in document text and could take many hours or weeks to capture
and assess.
This latest upgrade allows R&D and innovation professionals to quickly
access high quality information, uniquely formatting it to their
requirements:
- Explore - provides a quick overview of the organizations,
products, people and approaches related to a technology or other topic,
allowing users to quickly grasp the 'who and what' of a market space.
- Evaluate -supports investigation of the related benefits and
applications of a technology, process or product. Potential risks and
problems are uncovered, which can help speed the product development
process and uncover opportunities to fill a potential gap in the market
- Compare -generates side by side views of two organizations,
potential partners or products to support the evaluation of current or
potential competitors or to help identify possible partners
- Report -illumin8 Reports allow users to summarize their analysis
of a new technology, product application, competitor or unfamiliar
market space, build shortlists with notes for assessing potential
partners, suppliers, and experts, highlight the most relevant results
and records from scientific journals, patents, news and web sources and
output all their findings in a customizable document.
illumin8 has become a vital part of the R&D process for those on the
cutting edge of innovation. The introduction of these four new features will
help further enable users to quickly discover and share new information at
the front end, which in turn informs and speeds up product and partnering
decisions.
About illumin8
illumin8 is a web-based research tool that enables more confident
product and partnering decisions at the front-end of innovation. Beyond just
search results, illumin8 leverages semantic search technology to uncover
hidden insights and relationships between technologies, organizations,
products, and scientific approaches. It indexes a content base of 40
million+ scientific records from Elsevier and 5,000+ publishers, 24 million+
patents from 5 patent offices worldwide, and billions of web pages that
include 1,000+ online business, technical and news sources. For further

T-Mobile: AT&T Deal Will Deliver Strong Benefits for Consumers
WASHINGTON, July 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom Sugrue, T-Mobile senior vice president of government affairs, today issued the following statement in response to Sen. Al Franken's decision to oppose the AT&T transaction: "While we respect Senator Franken, his analysis of our pending transaction is just wrong. The combination of T-Mobile and AT&T should be approved because it will deliver what consumers are looking for in the age of smart phones, tablets and mobile internet - speed, service quality and reduced costs. As is documented in our government filings, the combination of our two networks creates significant efficiencies that will trigger strong benefits for consumers. We are confident that a thorough review of the record will demonstrate the transaction advances the public interest."

-- Chevy fans can celebrate 100 years of Chevrolet on Pandora® with a
dedicated channel and Top 100 Chevy song list
-- MyLink allows drivers to easily use their communications technology
while their phone remains safely stowed
-- Customers can safely and easily customize their radio and listen to
online programs with Pandora® and Stitcher SmartRadio®
The 2013 ChevroletMalibu will give customers a higher level of in-vehicle wireless connectivity and customized infotainment options, thanks to Chevy's MyLink.
The all-new Malibu will be one of the first vehicles to offer Chevrolet MyLink - an in-car infotainment package that builds on the safety and security of OnStar. It seamlessly integrates online services such as Pandora® internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio® using hands-free voice and touch-screen controls via Bluetooth-enabled phones.
Chevy fans are celebrating Chevrolet's 100th anniversary on Pandora with a dedicated Chevrolet station playing the Top 100 songs mentioning the brand. Among them are "American Pie" by Don McLean, "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John, "Little Red Corvette" by Prince and "Tim McGraw" by Taylor Swift. (Top 100 playlist is at the end of this release.)
Pandora® has more than 100 million users in the U.S. and more than 600 songs across all genres that currently mention Chevrolet, Chevy or the name of a Chevy vehicle in their lyrics. The dedicated Chevy station is scheduled to go live Wednesday. To access the station, Pandora® users should visit http://www.Pandora.com/chevy100.
"Car buyers considering the all-new 2013 Chevy Malibu don't have to settle for mass market radio," said Jon Hahn, Malibu marketing manager. "They want the option to create their own individual stations and have access to them wherever they are. MyLink makes media personalization easy for consumers on the go."
MyLink adds stereo audio streaming and wireless control of smartphones, building on the voice-activated Bluetooth hands-free calling capability already offered in most Chevy vehicles. MyLink also includes a seven-inch, high-resolution, full-color touch screen display that makes media selection easy to navigate.
MyLink also retains all the capabilities of today's entertainment functions, including AM/FM/Sirius XM tuners, CD player with MP3 playback, auxiliary and USB inputs.
Benefits of MyLink
-- Enhanced, hands-free voice control system powered by Nuance®, which
allows simple voice commands to initiate phone calls and select radio
stations or media from portable MP3 players and smartphones. A tap of a
button on the steering wheel enables intuitive verbal control of
smartphone applications such as "play (artist name)" or "call (name of
contact)" to keep the driver's hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
-- Pandora® internet radio allows users to create personalized radio
stations based on favorite artists or genres. Stitcher SmartRadio®
provides access to thousands of audio programming choices, allowing
customers to build a personalized listening experience. MyLink
integrates control of both of these apps for a driver-directed listening
experience.
-- Gracenote® identifies the music collection on the driver's smartphone
or MP3 player and presents information such artist name, genres and
album cover art on the MyLink screen, and enables users to select
similar music to the tunes they love. Gracenote also improves the
accuracy of MyLink's voice activation system by allowing users to access
music using artist nicknames, such as "The Boss," "G.N.R," or "The Fab
Four" simply by using MyLink's touch-screen or steering wheel buttons
and voice-control interfaces.
-- USB connections add flash memory capability, allowing users to access
approved applications to make their MyLink system even more functional,
while assuring that drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the
wheel.

DealerTrack Enhances Dealer Compliance Workflow with New Tools to Support Dodd-Frank Act Requirements
Free Functionality Helps Dealerships Meet July 21 Deadline
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., July 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- DealerTrack (Nasdaq: TRAK) today announced the addition of free functionality to the DealerTrack Performance Suite that enables dealers to comply with the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which went into effect on July 21, 2011. The enhancements, which were launched on July 20, are available to all dealerships on the DealerTrack credit application network at no charge.
The Dodd-Frank Act further extends the necessary credit score disclosure information required in Adverse Action Notices. Under the Dodd-Frank Act, businesses that use credit scores to make a credit decision must provide the credit score used, the primary reasons affecting the score, and the range of possible credit scores for the model used, among other information, within the Adverse Action Notices.
With the new functionality, any dealership using the DealerTrack credit application network will be able to generate Adverse Action Notices with the required disclosure information. In addition, dealerships subscribed to the DealerTrack Compliance Solution will be able to continue to securely and electronically store all Adverse Action Notices generated through DealerTrack and monitor activity on the one-of-a-kind compliance dashboard. This premium functionality is especially useful in helping dealers not only maintain compliance within their dealership, but in helping them prove it in the event of an FTC or Attorney General audit.
According to Robert Granados, vice president and general manager, Finance Solutions, DealerTrack, "We continue to engage dealers from across the country and stay abreast of updates to federal and state regulatory requirements. It is our goal to continue to deliver industry-leading tools and powerful reporting capabilities to help dealers comply with these regulations."
The DealerTrack Compliance solution, which is the most comprehensive suite of compliance tools available in the automotive retail market, helps protect a dealership throughout the sales and F&I process, including credit reports, credit application submissions, menu presentations, and document storage and retrieval, as well as compliance with the Red Flags Rule, the Risk-Based Pricing Rule and Dodd-Frank Act requirements. The DealerTrack solution allows dealers to work all deals on one fully integrated and secure platform to streamline the process and protect their dealership and its customers.
DealerTrack's intuitive and high-value software solutions and services enhance efficiency and profitability for all major segments of the retail automotive industry, including dealers, lenders, OEMs, agents and aftermarket providers. DealerTrack, whose solution set for dealers is the industry's most comprehensive, operates the largest online credit application network in the United States, connecting approximately 17,000 dealers with more than 1,000 lenders. DealerTrack's Dealer Management System (DMS) provides dealers with easy-to-use tools and real-time data access to enhance their efficiency. DealerTrack's Inventory offerings provide vehicle inventory management and merchandising solutions to help dealers drive higher in-store and online traffic with state-of-the-art, real-time listings -- leading to accelerated used-vehicle turn rates and higher dealer profits. DealerTrack's Sales and F&I solutions allow dealers to streamline the entire sales process as they structure deals from a single integrated platform. Its Compliance offering helps dealers meet legal and regulatory requirements, and protect their assets. DealerTrack also offers additional solutions for the automotive industry, including electronic motor vehicle registration and titling applications, paper title storage, and digital document services. DealerTrack's family of companies also includes data and consulting service providers ALG and Chrome Systems. For more information, visit http://www.dealertrack.com.

Verizon Wireless Launching 4G LTE Service in Ithaca Area on August 18
- 4G LTE provides data speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G service
- Also launching in Albany and Syracuse areas
- Full nationwide deployment to be complete by end of 2013
ITHACA, N.Y., July 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --Verizon Wireless announced today it will launch its 4G LTE high-speed data network in the Ithaca area on August 18. Residents, businesses and visitors to the area will be able to use their4G LTE smartphones, laptop modems and hotspots to take advantage of speeds up to 10 times faster than the company's 3G network. 4G LTE will also be available in the Albany and Syracuse areas on August 18. These deployments are part of the company's nationwide rollout of its super-fast data network, scheduled to be complete by the end of 2013.
"We're excited to lead the Ithaca area into the 4G LTE wireless broadband world, helping residents, businesses, and local universities connect faster and more fully with each other and with those outside the area," said Russ Preite, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region. "Our 4G LTE network is revolutionizing the way people communicate. We know this connectivity will be a key communications and technology enabler for many years to come."
In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink - perfect for surfing the Web, streaming video, and downloading large files.
Verizon Wireless introduced the globe's first large-scale LTE network on December 5, 2010, covering more than 110 million Americans, and is quickly expanding national coverage, currently offering service in 102 markets. The service launched in the New York City and Rochester markets in December. When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, their 4G devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless' 3G network, enabling them to stay connected from coast to coast.
As the first wireless company in the world to broadly deploy game-changing 4G LTE technology, Verizon Wireless is committed to building its 4G network with the same performance and reliability for which it has long been recognized. Verizon Wireless' consistent focus on reliability is based on rigid engineering standards and a disciplined deployment approach year after year. The company's 700 MHz spectrum gives Verizon Wireless specific advantages with 4G, including a contiguous, nationwide network license.
Verizon Wireless operates the nation's fastest, most advanced 4G network and largest, most reliable 3G network. The company serves 106.3 million total wireless connections, including 89.7 million retail customers. comScore Social Essentials(TM) Enables Brands to Quantify Social Media Impressions and Incorporate into Marketing Mix Measurement
Breakthrough Measurement Capability Reports Social Media Reach, Frequency and GRPs
Ties Brand Exposure to Demographic and Behavioral Attributes to Understand the Value of Social Media Marketing
RESTON, Va., July 26, 2011 comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today announced the global launch of Social Essentials(TM), a new social media measurement platform that helps brands quantify social media brand impressions and incorporate them into a measurement of the marketing mix. Social Essentials provides a range of insights that help brands evaluate their audiences across social media channels and how their behaviors may be affected by brand exposure and/or brand affinity. The first installment of this service provides global reporting and analysis of audiences exposed to brand messages over Facebook, while subsequent releases will incorporate findings for additional social media channels, including Twitter.
"While understanding social media commands a considerable portion of marketers' attention today, many express frustration with the challenge of quantifying the marketing impact of this channel," said Linda Boland Abraham, comScore CMO and EVP of Global Product Development. "comScore Social Essentials offers an innovative solution to this problem by quantifying paid, earned and owned social media brand impressions so that brands can measure the audiences being reached and evaluate their attributes and resulting behaviors. This capability also enables brands to calculate social media reach, frequency and GRPs so they have the metrics they need to incorporate social media impressions into the marketing mix, and ultimately determine their social media ROI."
comScore Social Essentials includes the following insights and capabilities:
-- The number of fans and friends of fans reached with paid, earned and
owned social media brand impressions along with the total number of
brand exposures.
-- The ability to compute traditional media planning metrics such as reach,
frequency and GRPs for social media brand impressions.
-- The demographic composition of fans and friends exposed to social media
brand impressions.
-- The online behavior and brand engagement of these fan and friend
segments.
-- Competitive intelligence on other brands' social media audiences,
including demographic and behavioral comparisons and audience overlap
-- The behavioral impact of exposure to social media messages, marketing

Understanding the Value of Fans and Followers
Social media is one of the most complex marketing channels, with marketers needing ways to quantify the impact of their social media efforts and ultimately determine their return on investment. comScore Social Essentials represents a unique solution that enables marketers to tie brand exposure within social media channels to engagement with that brand. Brands can gain visibility into the value of users exposed to their messaging, measured by whether they are more likely to visit a branded website or conduct a trademark search, consume digital media content or make online or in-store purchases.
"Even as social media has forged a new paradigm in the way marketing messages travel through networks, the ability to quantify this activity and understand its impact has thus far proven difficult," said Lise Brende, Director of Marketing Analytics for Bing & MSN of Microsoft. "comScore Social Essentials represents the first social marketing measurement capability we've seen that enables brands to understand social media impressions and the corresponding attributes and behaviors of those reached. This new service represents a significant breakthrough in social media measurement that will finally help marketers understand the value of their social media investment."

Kobo Developing HTML5 eReading Web App to Serve iOS Users, Broaden Reach, Strengthen Commitment to Open eReading
Move "Re-Balances the Scales" for iOS Readers Following Recent Changes Mandated by Apple
TORONTO, July 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Following recent App Store policy changes imposed by Apple, Kobo, a global leader in eReading with over 4 million readers worldwide, announced today that development is underway on an HTML5 eReading web app. With the development of the HTML5 app, Kobo will continue to provide the most optimized experience for iOS users and users on other Kobo platforms.
Kobo is dedicated to an open-platform experience and believes that consumers should have the freedom to read on any device, at anytime, anyplace in the world. With the new HTML5 web app, Kobo remains committed to open solutions and extends eReading capabilities to a platform that can be quickly enhanced and updated with the latest eReading features and functionality. Kobo's HTML5 app will not replace the company's existing apps, but extend its read-across-any-device strategy to reach a broader set of users and add additional value for their current customer base.
Over the past weeks, Kobo has worked with Apple to create a solution that would benefit the iOS eReading community within Apple's new App Store guidelines. Unfortunately, Apple has mandated that Kobo, along with all eBook retailers, substantially change the eReading experience for consumers by removing in-app access to the Kobo store.
Even after modification, Kobo's hugely popular and heavily downloaded eReading iOS apps continue to offer powerful features in the new 4.5.1 version, from the Reading Life social platform to the app's industry leading reading experience. Kobo users can continue to use the Kobo app to read existing books in their library, purchase new books at http://www.Kobo.com using any popular web browser and shop from Kobo's selection of over 2.4 million eBooks - latest New York Times bestsellers, new releases and more. Any books purchased on Kobo.com are automatically updated in the iPhone or iPad Kobo app.
This change does not affect Kobo's other free eReading apps, all of which retain the integrated eReading and in-app Kobo Store access. Kobo's move to provide an HTML5 web app will offer additional convenience to consumers and deliver a rich and seamless experience to Kobo app users across platforms, including Android, RIM and HP WebOS.
"Kobo believes in providing an open platform for users, and our HTML5 development will support the company's current app strategy to reach a broader base of users worldwide," said Michael Serbinis, CEO, Kobo. "HTML5 allows us to add more features and update our popular Reading Life social experience far more quickly, providing an agile method to deliver advanced enhancements to consumers without limitation."
Kobo continues to innovate, and the HTML5 app development will let Kobo users enjoy the best eReading experience worldwide, allowing consumers to read, browse, shop and share on dedicated eReaders, smartphones, tablets, netbooks, laptops and desktop computers. Kobo's HTML5 web-based app will continue to offer the company's popular, industry-leading features to readers around the world, as well as quick and easy access to Kobo's massive eBook store of over 2.4 million titles. Kobo expects to launch the new HTML5 web app later this year.
