Blu-Ray HD-DVD Format War

Is anyone planning on buying into either of these?

I think every company involved should lose out big time, but Sony annoys me more and they have the track record.

They lost on betamax, they lost on DVD (which was largely based on Toshiba's Super Density Disk, not Sony / Philips MultiMedia CD) Although they did manage to get a small slice of royalty money on that. They have been waiting ten years to get another shot and they have made sure that there can be no merging of standards, they either win big or lose this time.

So we are back to where we started with DVD again, Sony and Philips vs Toshiba, but this time it doesnt appear a compromise is even possible. Technically Bluray appears far superior, and may be the best option of furture proofing a solutuion (theoretical limit of HD-DVD is 60GB, Blu-Ray is 200GB)

I can't see anyone putting up with needing one player to watch SpiderMan and another to watch Braveheart. I for one will not buy a "next-gen" dvd player anytime soon. My DVD's look fine in 480p and thier lack of any real copy protection is a real selling point. (B+ and AACS LA both sound kinda scary)

Screw Bluray. I'm not about to give up even more control to the content providers. HD DVD is the format of choice for everyone that wants to OWN what they purchase.

And I agree about the content protection systems. Makes me feel like a pirate when I buy something.
