Spanish Anthem

I don't know if you've heard, but some UK organization created a spanish version of the American National Anthem. This is WRONG.

BORDERS. LANGUAGE. CULTURE.

Three things that we CANNOT give up. We are losing the fight to two of them already! We need to create a national ENGLISH language now and stop this multilanguage crap from happening. Image how much the country can save if documents only had to be one language!

Making English the official language is retarded, I don't really mind people translating the National Anthem to Spanish, I mean it's not going to be sung that way at Hockey games, right?

I will say this, learning spanish is a waste of time. Spain is no longer relevant, they stopped being relevant after they lost the Phillipenes and Cuba. Mexico will not be relevant in the near future. China, however, is the next post WW2 USA. We really do need to learn some more Mandarin or in a couple decades we'll all be fucked.

The USA started as, and in way still are, a multinational nation. So why force everyone to use English ? Because the imperial British influenced US dominate. Now another relatively strong population group comes up which happens to speak a different language. so what ?

Ignoring Spanish because Spain is unimportant is like ignoring English because Britain is unimportant. Britain fell long ago, with the loss of India, Australia and American and African colonies. The final straw was Hong Kong.
Don't over 50% of Americans speak Spanish natively ? (on the whole bicontinent)

English is important not because its mother-nation is important. It is important because a remote region happens to be heavily influenced by the former British Empire. Similiar is the situation of Spanish, although this started in South America...

There is a reason to make English our national language and it is jsut what Peeholes said. Also, all of our founding documents are in English!

Yes, the US juristication is English based , but still, seperate groups of citizens should be able to use seperate languages. This, obviously, does not include communication with government related bodies.
And while I'm at it, a favourite fact of many teachers here is that when the official US language was elected, German lost by one vote. (me again) since then, English has always been used, but privately, many people speak Spanish...

The USA does not have any official language. English is the de facto standard, but not officially.

Yeah, I figured you went that route. Either way, when I refer to the USA, I'm refering to America on the federal level. We have to governments, the state and the federal. Both want power from each other and both are out to screw the citizens.

why is it an issue when a group of citizens that is there already and will stay and probably grow has a National Anthem ?

I am still confused about how "American culture" can be defined ? Excepting standards of (the diverse) European culture that are standardized almost everywhere since the age of imperialism...
I mean, modern America was formed by people moving to the US from all over the world, each with their own distinctive culture. These were then spread across a whole continent. Now, how and when did the culture unify, and to what ? (I have no problem with things like "Greater NYC culture", as a compressed culture mix is bound to unify sooner or later, but the US are far from compressed.)
Oh, and if you manage to explain that without integrating language, your argumentation doesn't really count, does it...
(and btw, I don't hold with protecting culture by limiting citizen possibilities/rights or similiar anyway...)

You took what I said out of context. I said that political dissent is part of our roots. It has always been American citizens RIGHT to challenge the government and to (under extreme circumstances) throw out the government and install a new one.

What is American culture? I can think of some values...
A: Speaking English.
B: Mandatory Rights (Given by the Bill of Rights)
C: Constitutional Law
D: People have the power (Democracy) (This is a bit bullshitty now, though)
E: Sovereignty

I think it is the sovereignty that is the biggest one for me and that is what is troubling.
