Northrop and Israel develop point defense lasers

Mind you, the article says shields but everyone knows that something that shoots down incoming fire is called a point defense system!

You can see the companies cashing in on this terrorism shit. And by the way, this system will do nothing but cost money and be useless.

So, what, this is similar to the Star-Wars program, but instead of satellites it uses point defense?

The X-ray and chemical laser was only part of the Star Wars system.

In those instances, yes, this system is the same. Shooting stuff before it hits you.

So why don't they just develop a land-based AEGIS system?

Damn right that is point defense.

How dare they call it a shield. It doesn't protect from laser fire, right?

AEGIS uses another projectile. This ground based PDS uses a beam to destroy it. AEGIS is also used for midrange defense while this is not intended to stop ICBMs.
